Photos of Eucalyptus pauciflora ssp. niphophila - page 2

E. pauciflora ssp. niphophila enjoying a wintry day (and living up to its namesake!) in my garden.

Another shot taken at night before the snow was done falling.

A closer shot of the bark of the Beaverton, OR E. pauciflora ssp. niphophila.  The bark of this tree is mostly white with less mottling than some.

Shadows on the powdery smooth bark.

This tree (the Beaverton tree once again) has a fairly upright habit and is definitely on its way to outgrowing the 25' height cited for E. pauciflora ssp. niphophila by some nurseries and references.

Adult leaves of the Beaverton euc.

This E. pauciflora ssp. niphophila in a Yachats, OR garden has smaller leaves which are not always quite as pendulous.  Unfortunately I do not yet have any shots of the forms with small silvery leaves that point upwards.

Regrowth of E. pauciflora ssp. niphophila after the tree died to the ground.  I am not sure if it froze, or if it was cut for some other reason.  This tree is located at the Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle, WA.  I have a hard time imagining it got cold enough there to freeze E. pauciflora ssp. niphophila in any recent winters, but I suppose December 1998 might have just been severe enough, if this is a fairly tender form.

Bark of another tree at the arboretum that did not freeze.

Another E. pauciflora ssp. niphophila at the arboretum, with my Tasmanian friend Luke foraging on the leaves.
