George Y and Teresa Wells Pyeatt

George Yearian Pyeatt born on March 6, 1834, in Richland County, Ohio to Jacob Pyeatt born 1802, also a native of Ohio, and Elizabeth Stewart from Vermont. George died on February 5, 1911 in California. The family moved to Illinois in 1838/1840 and were among the early settlers of Perry County. George married Teresa Wells on February 14, 1856 in DuQuoin, Perry County, Illinois. Teresa was born on April 2, 1837 and was from the locality. Her parents were Lewis and Polly Ann Smith Fanning Wells. Lewis farmed for about 21 years and in 1877 came to Missouri. Teresa was the oldest of 15 siblings and died May 21, 1914 in California. George and Teresa had six children: George made the following purchase of Illinois Public Domain Lands:

The family appeared on the 1860 federal census of Perry County, IL, census as follows:

Just a few houses away was George's brother, Corydon Pyatt and family.

By 1870 the family appeared as follows in DuQuoin, Perry County, Illinois:

This family was enumerated #85/86 T6R2 pg 206 [‘Pickneyville’ marked out and ‘Du Quoin’ written in] (ancestry image 12/23). Neighbors were #79 Fred Hahu, #80 Corydon Pyatte (George's brother), #81 John W Grubo, #82 Louis Hess, #83 Louis Moore, #84 Mary Tappy, and #86 George Harsha.

Around 1877, (according to Alfred G Pyeatt's headstone which says "In MO 8 years"), the family moved to St Clair County, Missouri, where George was elected as a Missouri state representative in 1896 and 1898 (he was a Democrat).

George and Teresa (along with some of their children) moved to California in 1902.

George and Teresa's daughter, Philena F Pyeatt, married Cyrus H. Hinkley who was born in 1837 in Pennsylvania and died in 1909 in California. They had three sons:

George and Teresa's son, Alfred Grant Pyeatt, and wife Cynthia Bell Denny had a son named Alfred Dell Pyeatt who was born just a few months before his father died. Alfred Dell Pyeatt married Mary "Goldie" Maupin who was born in 1888 and died in 1967 in California. They had three children: Mildred Pyeatt who was born 1910 in California and who died in 1993 in California, Norman Ernest Pyeatt who was born in 1914 in California and who died in 1991 in California and Adele Pyeatt who was born October 10, 1916, in Missouri and died March 27, 2004, in Desert Hot Springs, California. She was married to Alfred Thomas Michaela on October 5, 1946, in Santa Ana, California. Her obituary follows:
Adele Ruth Michaeli, 87, of Desert Hot Springs and Costa Mesa died March 27, 2004, in Desert Hot Springs. She was born Oct. 10, 1916, to Alfred Dell and Goldena Maupin Pyatt in Missouri. She married Albert Thomas Michaeli on Oct. 5, 1946, in Santa Ana. She was a chemist for Normco in Costa Mesa for 20 years. She was a member of the Lady Elks, Toastmasters and First Christian Church of Santa Ana. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Cedar City Hospital. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Nunan of Costa Mesa; her son, Allen D. Boris of Orange, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Thomas Michaeli, in 1992. Services will be private. Burial will be at Paragonah Cemetery in Paragonah, Utah, with Rose Mortuary of Desert Hot Springs in charge of arrangements.
