Jacob and Elizabeth Stewart Pyeatt

Jacob Pyeatt was born May 22, 1802, in Belmont County, Ohio, to Thomas Piatt and Catherine Bell and died February 8, 1857, in Perry County, Illinois. He is buried in the Old McElvain Cemetery near DuQuoin, Illinois. He married in Richland County, Ohio, June 30, 1823 (recorded July 11, 1823) Elizabeth Stewart who was born July 12, 1805, in Vermont to Philo Stewart and died March 3, 1875, in Perry County, Illinois. Family lore says her name was Elizabeth Yearian. There were many Yearian families in the area around this Pyeatt family. Perhaps her name was Elizabeth Yearian Stewart. The marriage bond of Jacob and Elizabeth reads as follows:
This is to certify that on the 30 day of June 1823 I united Jacob Pyatt and Elizabeth Steward in the bonds of matrimony given under my hand this 11 day of July 1823. Ellzey Hedges, JP

Jacob's family appeared as follows on the 1840 federal census of Perry County, Illinois: After this census was taken, the family lost 9 year old Alfred and then less than a month later, 1 year old Mercy. Of note to those interested in studying Elizabeth Yearian, are four Yearian marriages between 1839 and 1843 (see Perry County Marriages 1827-1850 .) Also, the following Yearian marriages appear in Richland County, Ohio:

Also in Perry County was the family of Samuel Pyatt born c1793 in OH (and who was also on the 1840 Perry County, IL federal census). This is a son of Ebenezer Pyeatt.

Jacob had died by the 1860 federal census, but, Elizabeth appeared as follows in T6SR2W, DuQuoin P O, Perry Co, IL:

Jacob and Elizabeth's sons, William, George and Corydon were also found on the 1860 Perry County, Illinois, federal census, with their families.

By the 1870 census of DuQuoin, Perry County, Illinois, Elizabeth was enumerated as follows:

This family enumerated #154/157 20 Jul 1870; ancestry image 22/23 [Pickneyville marked through and changed to DuQuoin]). Also enumerated in this township were her sons; Thomas, Corydon and George and their families and the families of Samual Pyatt (son of Ebenezer) and his son Milburn M Pyatt.
