::For Your Safety

With Neopia being soooo vastly populated, you can be sure there are tonnes of evil scammers out there trying to steal your items and/or NP. They use some very sneaky moves to get your password and access your account. Here is a description of the known 'tricks of the trade' that scammers use. Remember, if you come across someone trying to get your password, REPORT THEM!! Remember that the staff of Neopets will never ask for your password. Think about it, why would they need to? They have all your information already.

::The Fake Login Page

So you go to a shop to buy a cheap codestone, or whatever and when you click to try and buy it, you are taken to a login page which asks you to login again. DO NOT login! Never input your password to any login page whos URL doesn't start with www.neopets.com. Scammers create fake login pages and connect them to their shops so they can steal your password. When you login on these fake pages, your password is sent straight to a scammer. My first Neopets account was stolen this way and when I got it back, it got frozen. The scammer had put the same fake page in my shop while he/she was in my account. In this situation, Neopets has no way of determining that it was a scammer and not you, so your account is toast.

::The Trading Post Scam

I hear word that some people are putting cheap items in the trading post and claiming they are hidden tower items or somehow manipultaing the pictures so that you bid on, say, an everlasting apple and you recieve a red apple. There are lots of crazy things people will try to do in trades. A few good rules are to always check out an item you are interested in purchasing so you are sure of what it looks like and if anyone wants to take an item out of the Trading Post or asks you to bid strangely, abort mission immediately. Only use the Trading Post exactly as it is intended.

::The Dark Shops

Not everyone would classify this as a scam, but I sure do. Have you ever visited a shop only to find that you can't read the prices or names of the items because the background is so dark? There are actually people who price things super cheap and then sit around changing the price up by 20,000np to catch people not paying attention. I realize that you must be quick to snag a legitimately cheap map piece, but you need to check out the price in the grey box that pops up to verify your purchase. In fact I just refuse to buy anything from these kinds of shops just to be safe.

Most (but not all) of the images on this website are owned in all imginable ways by the best virtual world on the internet www.neopets.com. Best of all, it's completely free! I highly encourage you to check it out. Everything that isn't from Neopets is mine and will always be mine in every conceivable way across the universe forever. However, I have no emotional attachment, so feel free to use anything you want in any way you want.
