Esther Nageak was born on 25 August 1952 in Fairbank, North Star, Alaska. She died on 25 February 2004 in Seattle, King, Washington. She was buried in Emaiksoun Cemetery, Barrow, North Slope Borough, Alaska. Barrow resident Esther Nageak Hopson, 51, died suddenly Feb. 25, 2004, at the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
A celebration of life was March 2 at the Utkiagvik Presbyterian Church in Barrow with the Rev. Mary Ann Warden officiating. She was buried at the Emaiksoun Cemetery in Barrow.
Mrs. Hopson was born Aug. 25, 1952, to Steven and Josephine Nageak in Fairbanks. She was employed by the Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital as a housekeeper.
Her family wrote that she was a loving wife, precious grandmother, beloved sister and wonderful daughter-in-law.
"Esther was always there for everyone. She offered her help with willingness and with a happy inner spirit. She always had a smile on her face. She was a proud grandmother of two and loved them dearly. She loved to go camping with her family during all seasons. She also loved to make arts and crafts for sale. Esther will be greatly missed by family and friends."
Mrs. Hopson is survived by her husband, David P. Hopson; children, Josephine "Qillu," Maggie "Nanuaq," David Jr. "Sonny," Steven, Rebecca "Bucca;" grandchildren, Lakisha Oyagak and Austin Hopson; siblings and spouses, Marchie and Lillian Nageak, James Nageak, Lucy and Arthur Segevan, Helen and Merle Solomon, Charlie Nageak, Johnny Nageak, and Vera and Leslie Itta; parents-in-law, Eben and Rebecca Hopson; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Charlie and Adeline Hopson, Eben Jr. and Rosie Hopson, Flossie and Ralph Andersen, Margaret and Bert Panigeo, Cathy Hopson and Richard Suvlu, Pauline and George Olemaun, Patrick Hopson and Josephine Leavitt, William and Carolyn Hopson, Lloyd Hopson, Emory Hopson, Debbie and Jimmy Nayakik, and Georgianne and Marc McCumber.
