Jeff Gordon 2002 Race Comments

2-17- Daytona 500-Ran well all day! Should have won! I guess Jeff's spotters weren't doing a very good job today! Jeff kind of caused a big accident! Whoops! Kevin Harvick came down on Jeff, trying to block and spun himself out. Then after Jeff had the lead,he came down on Sterling Marlin on a restart trying to block and spun himself out! The race was red flagged. Marlin was in the lead and got out of his car to pull his fender off from his tire under the red flag! Well, that lost the race for him!! I can't believe he done that. How long has Sterling been around? I hope the Fords and Dodges are happy. Let's give them some more advantage! They will not be happy unless they can win every race! 4 Chevys, 3 Dodges, 1 Pontiac, and 7 Fords in the top 15! 3 Fords in the top 5! Yeah, they have a real disadvantage! I'm sick of the Ford drivers crying all the time. If they can't compete, then they shouldn't even be in racing! You know they sand bagged right up to race day!

2-24- Subway 400-A pretty good day, except for a little mishap in the pits where Jeff somehow got spun around. Thanks to TONY STEWART for running into him! Here we go again! Tony is involved again. Good finish (7th), considering where he started (33rd) and the mishap. He may have had a chance to win this one! Ford, Dodge, Pontiac, Pontiac, Ford, Ford, Top 6! Yeah, lets give them some more advantage. 3 Chevys in top 15! Also, let's keep this red flag rule consistant! The race should have never finished under yellow!

3-3- UAW/DaimlerCrysler 400-Not so hot! To much adjusting of the car again! Jeff was running real well early. once they started working on the car, it was all over! Come on NASCAR, wake up, top 5, Dodge, Dodge, Ford, Ford, Pontiac! Something wrong with this picture? What about Sterling Marlin's penalty that never happened? He should have never been allowed to win the race. Did someone get paid off? Just more inconsistent rules! All 3 races have been tainted by make the rules as we go routine!

3-10- MBNA America 500-What's going on? Spending to much time setting Jimmie Johnson up? 16th place finish. Not the Jeff Gordon we are all use to. Come on Jeff, we do not want to see Tony Stewart as the next champion! Well at least 2 chevys finished in the top 5. Still no win though.

3-17- Carolina Dodge Dealers 400-Dominated most of race! Led 176 laps of 293. Thanks to Tony Stewart not watching where he was going and causing a big crash, and of course Jeff got into some of it. Still got a top ten finish, but should have been in top 5. Do you think Sterling Marlin deserved to win this race? Absolutely not! What happen to Nascar's one engine rule? Sterling had a problem with the engine so he got to put in a new one and start at the back of the field. Not fair! Everyone else had at least 100 miles on their engines and Sterling Marlin gets to come out and race with a fresh engine. Sure he started at the back of the field, but he just laid back and waited for everybody's engines to wear down. What would Nascar do if all 43 cars said they have a engine problem and change their engines. Will everybody start 43rd? One engine is one engine in my book. Walke up Nascar, Dodge has pulled a lot of wool over your eyes!

3-24- Food City 500-Ran well early! Dominated! Lost control and hit the wall! Finished 31st! I hope Jeff breaks out of this slump soon!

4-7- Samsung/Radio Shack 500-Best finish this year! 2nd! Just not enough to beat the fresher engine of Matt Kenseth. This is the second person to change an engine, start at the back of the field, and win. Come on NASCAR, wake up! Never the less, Jeff had a good run and deserved to win!

4-14- Virginia 500-Not to good of day! Banged up by Jimmy Spencer, caused by Tony Stewart, penalized 1 lap for having to many crew members over the wall, then looses power steering! Still finished 23rd, 2 laps down! What about the barring of Kevin Harvick? I can't believe it! Why didn't NASCAR make an example of Tony Stewart a couple of years ago? This might have detered anyone else from getting into trouble. I guess Harvick figured Tony Stewart gets away with it, why can't I?

4-21- Aaron's 499-Good run! Finished 4th. Jeff has a hard time getting any help in those restrictor plate races! Still finished good though! Glad to see a Chevy win finally! Wish it would have been Jeff!

4-28- NAPA 500-Jeff still not a winner! Went 1 lap down on an unscheduled pit stop to remove debris from his grill to keep the car from over heating. At least Jeff's car won! The number 48 car that is! Another win for Chevy!

5-4- Pontiac Excitement 400-Stayed in the top ten all day, but fought the car the entire race. To much adjusting! Another win for a car that changed their engine! When will NASCAR wake up? That's 3 for 3! 3 times engines have been changed and 3 times they have won! This is an unfair advantage. If 1 person has to change their engine, then everyone should be allowed an engine change if they wish. Let's make it fair for everybody!

5-18- The Winston*-A mishap in the pits and a little trouble on the track, and Jeff gets eliminated from, "The Winston", in the second round! I hope his luck is a little better next week.

5-26- Coca Cola 600-Good run for Jeff. Still needs some work though. Ran consistent all day. Was there at the end. Just didn't have enough to get to the front. I think his pit stall was a little to far back to make up any time in the pits. Especially, since most of the pit stops were under yellow! Jeff needs some wins and he also needs to lead some laps to collect those all important bonus points.

6-2- MBNA Platinum 400-Another good run! Moves into 3rd in the point standings! Needs to win some races!

6-9- Pocono 500-Ran real well, but miscues in the pits cost Jeff this race. 5th place finish.

6-16- Sirius Satellite Radio 400-Another good run! 5th again! Just can't seem to win! Has been consistent. Tied for 2nd in the point standings!

6-23- Dodge/SaveMart 350K-Could have and should have taken over the point lead after this race. Talk about bad luck! Lost the rear end, while he was leading! Sterling Marlin was the first car out of the race, if Jeff had finished in the top ten, he would be the point leader! Instead, he finished 37th, 7 laps down! Led the most laps! At least it wasn't a big let down by happening at the end of the race, like it did for Jerry Nadeau! Sorry Jerry! That was your race!

7-6- Pepsi 400-More bad luck! Punctured tire on the 29th lap, went a lap down. Jeff had a real good car, but the leaders were afraid to let him have his lap back! Guess what boys? What goes around, comes around. I am sure Jeff will get his chance to pay you back! I don't want to here any announcers bad mouthing Jeff when it happens either! Right D. W.?

7-14- Tropicana 400-Good day! Finished 2nd. Just didn't have enough for the win! Sure helped with the points though!

7-21- New England 300-Another bad day for Jeff. Must not have been able to handle the new surface at this track! It's about time to start winning. It has been way to long!

7-28- Pennsylvania 500-12th place finish! Still in the points race, but needs to start winning.

8-4- Brickyard 400-Struggled all day, but finished well. A good point day! Looks like the championship could go to just about anyone in the top ten in points. Tony Stewart is in the news again! Punching a photographer! What a cry baby! Can't handle losing! Go to your trailer and pout!

8-11- Sirius Satellite Radio@ the Glen-Can't get a break! 22nd place finish! Let that cry baby Tony Stewart get ahead of him in the points! Come on Jeff, it's time for some wins! Maybe you need to take a good hard look at your crew chief!

8-18- Pepsi 400-Disappointment! What is the problem? 19th place finish. Still not out of it, but not looking good. WIN! WIN! WIN! WE WANT A WIN!!!!

8-24 -Sharpie 500-WE GOT OUR WIN!!!! Ends 31 race losing streak! Of course, Rusty Wallace is not happy! Cry baby! You bumped your way to the front, so Jeff just done the same thing! It's alright for you to do it, but when it happens to you, it's a different story! WAY TO GO JEFF! Let's keep the momentum up and win again next week!

9-1- Mt. Dew Southern 500-I can't believe it! 2 in a row! Jeff got a taste of victory, now he wants to win them all! That's alright with me! I can smell that championship! It's not in the bag, but he's sniff'n!

9-7- Chevrolet Monte Carlo 400-After 2 wins in a row., a DNF! HOW DISAPPOINTING! Seems like everytime Sterling Marlin has a bad day, so does Jeff! Jeff should be leading in the points, but the engine failure sets him back. Tony Stewart back in the news again! Shoving a fan this time, with an officer as a witness! Tony says he never done it! Yeah, right, cry baby! You done it and you know you did! When will Nascar wake up to your temper tamptrums! They should have "Nipped it in the Bud" a long time ago! Punish him just like they did Kevin Harvick, he'll calm down and won't have to run to his trailer every week to pout!

9-15- New Hampshire 300-Rain shortened race. Jeff never had a chance. Started 21st, finished 14th.

9-22- MBNA 400-Bad day! Caught up in an accident early in the race. Finished 37th, 2nd DNF of the season! Still 5th in points and not quite out of it yet!

9-29- Protection One 400-Wow! A big win! If not for the bad luck in the last 2 weeks, Jeff would be leading in the point standings! Instead, we have to settle for 4th, 109 points out! Need to win a couple more and hope the guys in front have some bad luck!

10-6- EA Sports 500-So much for that extra horse power that Hendicks Motors Sports incorperated into there engines! All four Hendricks cars, out for engine failures. This sure didn't help Jeff's bid for his 5th championship. Not to mention Jimmie Johnson! This is no time to be experimenting! Get back to what works! Jeff will need for the top 6 in points to have some pretty bad luck in order to get back into the point race with only 6 races to go! We can't let cry baby Tony Stewart win a championship! He will think he should win it every year! If not he will throw a temper tantrum! Who knows what he will do to anybody that is around him!

10-13- UAW-GM Quality 500-Good finish, 4th! To little to late though. Needs some bad luck to come to the top five in points in the waning weeks ahead!

10-20- Old Domimion 500-36th place finish! Bad day! Fender Bender took Jeff out of this race! Doesn't look like he will get that 5th Championship this year!

10-27- NAPA 500-6th place finish! Should have won. Why change a car that is leading the race? Get tires and fuel and GO! I don't know who is making the calls in the pits, but I think somebody better take a good hard look at the situation!

11-3- Pop Secret 400-5th place finish! Another case of changing the car to much! No championship this year!

11-10- Checker 500-3rd place finish! Even led a few laps!

11-17- Ford 400-5th place finish! Had to start in the 37th position. Jeff's 1st provisional in 329 starts. This has to be some kind of record! Finishes 4th in the point standings.
