The 2008 Southern Slam Queen

Gypsee Yo!

did the only thing she could do to win: in the final round she delivered a perfect 30!

Second Place:
Jerri Hardesty @ 29.9

Third Place:
Theresa Davis @ 29.8

That's right... the top three places were decided by a tenth of a point each! The 3rd annual Southern Slam Queen competition was that intense. From quirky funny to sexy to strong to loving to surviving to shaping growing hearts and minds, the incredible women who took the stage showed us a crystal clear vision of some of what life is like for these women in the South.

Fall Poetry Slam
@
Lake Eden Arts Festival

Winner: Twain

2nd Place: Gypsee Yo

3rd Place: Bluz

As always, the crowd was huge, the poets hot, and the scores terribly, terribly close. Thirty five poets signed up for the afernoon qualifer, but only 12 get into the Big Show.

The LEAF Poetry Slam isn't officially listed as a "Grand Slam," but the winner gets $1000, more than a thousand goes to the runners up, as well as free weekend passes to next Spring's LEAF, and over $500 was collected in the passing of the hat to be divided among those runners up.

As always, SlamMaster & MC Nave' was in top form, taking one of the random improv topics (provided by the audience) to kick off the improv round himself, just dripping in verbal style and social relevance.

If you haven't been to the LEAF Poetry Slam, you are missing out on one of the best slams in the NATION!

The phenomena of slam sweeps the nation, and even the world.

Interest grows and slams are popping up all over the place, from small towns with only around 6000 people to the huge metros like New York and San Francisco.

The National Poetry Slam is held year after year and it is growing almost beyond the abilities of poets to handle.

In August 2004 St. Louis took on the great task of hosting 69 teams and all the side events, workshops, feature slams and showcases!

This year Albuquerque grapples with the monumental task of hosting up to 80 slam teams who will compete for the national slam title.
