The 2005 Spring LEAF Poetry Slam is over!

The winner is

Carlos Andreas Gomez!
in 2nd Chris August!
and in 3rd Queen Sheba!

The Saturday night big show was packed
with national slam talent.
13 poets clashed within a sea of audience so thick
that it was often difficult for the poets
to get to the mic.
The early draws pulled out their best work
to try to beat the late round score creep
but the late draws didn't lay back
because they knew 7 poets of the 13 would be cut
and only 6 would make it to the second round.
The six who made the cut were:

Carlos Andreas Gomez
Da Minister
Exodus
Chris August
Queen Sheba
Terry Creech

Two more were cut after the 2nd round leaving

Carlos Andreas Gomez
Chris August
Queen Sheba &
Da Minster

to knock verbs in the Imrov Round and the 4th round.
After the air cleared, and Nave' had sent volunteers
into the crowd with collection hats the last two poets
left standing were

Carlos Andreas Gomez and Chris August.

Chris went first, then Carlos and it was decided by
a mere 10th of a point.
Carlos took the $1000 prize.
The hat collection yielded more than $500 to split
among the best placers in the Slam.

The winner of the 2003 LEAF Poetry Slam is Nick Fox!

The final round was close, with Ayodele rocking
the room with a tribute to the Space Shuttle
Columbia and her crew, but Nick came back
with a love poem that caused several spontaneous 'oooohs,'and 'aaaaahs'
throughout the audience.

Ayodele took second.
Carrie Gerstman came in a close third.

The 2002 Spring LEAF Poetry Slam was a blowout as always!

Before a full house, an audience of hundreds, 12 poets gave their best and shook Black Mountain to its foundations! The winner of this year's spring Slam was Carl Lombardi who managed to harness all his incredible energy and pour it out on the audience.
