as i understand it, neil went back in time... so it
would seem... but his computer shows that he sped forward... it also would seem that his
crew stayed behind in the magnetic field system looking for him... they crashed to the
same planet as neil... and eventually, the apes overpowered the humans on that ship. i
haven't seen the old version with charlton heston, but in this version, one of the crewmen
on the ship said that the apes have become smarter than they thought they could be, and
eventually, the apes waged war and overpowered the humans. it could be that the apes got
bored around the ship after killing the humans, and emerged from the ship into the desert.
they eventuall evolved to become the society that was featured in
the film.
meanwhile, there were already humans in
the planet where their ship landed. i'm not sure why the humans on the ship didn't take
notice of this before, but it could be that the ship's computer logs documenting their
presence were merely deleted. anyways, the point is, there were already humans on that
planet. i'm not sure why the computer on neil's pod said it was thousands of years into
the future and the planet they were living in seemed primitive, but i think it's so far
into the future already that a nuclear holocaust could have just happened and humans
somehow blew themselves up so that they returned back to primitivity.
anyways, so there. the apes, coming from space
received respect from the humans and i guess it became the norm for hundreds of thousands
of years that the tides turned to us: humans now are being enslaved, and all that.
but i guess the point of all my ramblings is that
apes and humans are merely the same. the whole movie and novel is a statement to who the
writer thinks we are: that we're mere animals as well, no different from the swarms of
ants that run about to build a colony or the bees that build a beeswax nest. the female ape who mocks calima in the movie says that the more educated apes take calima
as merely a myth. that could be the writer's testament to what and who he thinks is God --
his notion of a Supreme Being is that it's merely a human construct, a human invention.
neil was indeed a real person come down from the heavens, leading a small pack of humans and apes alike -- like Jesus.
neil and their god, sima (if i remember it right), were good friends.
so there, hahaha... the film does not say why the apes waged war against the humans in the first place, while still in the ship.
yups, they weren't treated with the same respect, and yes, it's possible that the apes
understood inequality and waged war. but we can also see that general thane (which also
means "king"! haha), they can't control their temper. they needta let it out.
kinda the same with humans, i suppose.
Here's that monkey-thing we wanted to give you... it's really cool, promise! (Sent by Aydee Garcia, YFC-Calgary, Canada... "Hey, who let the Canadian in?!")
