First and foremost, my heartfelt condolences go out to the many families that lost a loved one in the tragedy of September 11th. The events of that day are something that will be etched on the minds of young and old alike forever. Even thinking of that horrendous day brings chills down my spine. Then I think of the bombings in my very own country, and feel that pain multiply immediately. Killing is wrong. It’s in the texts of the Muslim, Christian and Jewish books of faith, yet all three of these faiths take part in acts that outright refute those very same ordinances they claim to live by. I think of the dying afghan children and the destitute parents that can do nothing more than just stand by and watch. I think of the land mines laying about, waiting for some innocent being to trigger off the horrific blasts. I think of my country, which I left when I was about 4 years old and I think of what I heard it was, and what I see of it today. I find myself hoping and praying that all of us will come together in this time and strive at obtaining peace. I pray that the world will learn that those ordinances are not in our scriptures for decorative purposes, but if followed, will lead us to live that very life we are dreaming of. I pray that someday, I will be able to return to my homeland and work to make it the homeland my mother and father often speak of. I have lived in America all my life, but in my heart of hearts, I shall remain forever an Afghan. I have created a little page on Afghanistan as well that you can view for some cultural and pictoral information. Click HERE for Negeena's page on Afghanistan.
