Taking Charge

by Jhon

I must start out by letting you know I have been cutting hair for over twenty years, both men and women, but do prefer doing men’s cuts, military cuts especially,  I have a good reputation in the community and have done so by giving the customer what they want in spite of what I think,  leaving me very frustrated at times, till one Sunday afternoon, when a guy,  in his early thirties walked into the shop, with the longest curliest hair I have ever seen on a guy, my heart was racing,

I went up to him introduced myself (John) and lead him to chair as he was telling me how he was new to the area and has been needing a haircut for some time, witch I agreed, and then proceeded to tell how he would like it cut, my heart sank the dreaded word, a trim, all this hair on this tiny head with a very handsome face covered by this mass of curls, as usual I obliged and once again finished my job disappointed and frustrated why didn’t I just do it!!

I did manage to say as he was leaving that he should think about a more current style, he smiled thanked me and was on his way, and for all I new Allan would never to be seen again (wrong).

Few weeks went by and once again on a Sunday Allan walked back into the shop just for a trim like last time, but was a little more interested in something different. I noticed the smell of beer on his breath and wondered if it was the booze talking or him, or both, he still wasn't up to getting any thing short just talking about it made him extremely nervous

This went on for months till one of his visits, he was feeling no pain and it was time I took over, he sat in the chair, I new today was going to be the day, put the neck strip around him, then the cape, and asked the dreaded question, were going for that new look today rite, he looked like he was going to cry, so before he could say to much, I changed the subject, while I was combing his long curls, then he mentioned the length on the back was only to be cut no more than two or three inches, he could handle the sides be a little shorter, but no to,  (not this time)

Before he new what was going on the sides were buzzed off 7 or 8 inches fell to the floor, I thought he was going to faint along with some of the other people in the shop. This did not make my mission any easier, I put down the clippers, picked up my scissors and began wracking at the top going into the back till there was nothing but a long stringy mess hanging on his shoulders. The floor was covered, and I have to tell you Allan was looking great once again I picked up my trusted Oster 76 and proceeded around the sides and this time to the back before he realized what I was doing. It was over,  all those curls were gone.

I can still see the look on Allan’s face as he ran his hand over is head, only a few moments ago was covered with a mound of thick curly hair,  now reduced to nothing more than short stubble. I think it took me the rest of the day to stop shaking and was praying Allan wasn't going to come back when he sobered up, for revenge, but he has been back, and to this day we always start out with Allan saying he is growing it out and I proceed to give the military cut he looks so good in, I think he enjoys it to tell ya the truth, fact or fiction, you decide, .I know I got my wish.

THE END
