Petaling Panthers vs. Megah United -- Match report  (30/12/2002)

By Wai Kit

This is it. The last game of 2002, and we're taking on Megah United. The Panthers are low on morale as we're playing without Thompson and Andrew. We have a few players on loan and new signing Chia Huei playing in defense. For the first few minutes, we have our fair share of possesion but we're unable to penetrate their defense. United's counter-attack is very lethal but our defenders are able to deal with it.

20 minutes into the game, goalkeeper Boon Pin's goal kick landed in front of an opponent. The opponent played the ball up front. However Hon Foong's hesitation to clear the ball proved fatal. It prompted Boon Pin to run out to claim the ball. But an opponent was first to the ball and made a shot. Wai kit charged towards goal but instead of making a goal line clearance, he hit it into goal. It was truly disaster.

Later, United were 2 goals up as their players made shot from an impossible angle which curled into goal. Then, Chia Huei was substituted for our captain Daniel because of his dismal performance. The Panthers were unable to take any shots o goal and their defense began to crumble. The first half ended with the Panthers 4 goals down.

The second half wasn't that good either. The Panthers threw everyone forward to at least get some consolation goals. A clear chance came when after exchanging some beautiful passes with Daniel, Wai Kit caught the ball on the opponent's penalty area. However, with the chance to redeem himself from scoring an own goal, Wai Kit managed a hasty back heel shot which beat the keeper who was caught dreaming but the ball was cleared by an alert defender. deep into second half, the Panthers were left in disarray. United then banged in another 4 goals to end the game 0-8. A dissapointing game by the Panthers. Can they do better in the next game againts the well known Mayang Kings??...Definately. The Panthers will be back with a roar!!
