Aqueducts

Valens (Bozdogan) Aqueduct
The aqueduct is in Istanbul Saraçhane District. The construction started during the period of Constantinius the 1ST (306-337), and it was completed in 378, during the period of Emperor Valens. It used to tranfer the drinking water coming from Alibeyköy to the city. It is made of two rows of ducts. While it used to have a length of 1 km, now only a part of 800 m. survives.

Maglova Aqueduct
It was constructed by Architect Sinan in Istanbul between 1554-1562 over Alibey river valley. The repair of the aqueduct which was damaged in the flood in 1563 was completed in 1564. It is 36 m. high and 258 m. long. The aqueduct, which is two storey, has 8 big partitions in the first storey and 8 little partitions in the second.

Uzun Aqueduct
It is the longest aqueduct of Istanbul Kirkçesme water facilities. It was constructed in 1554-1562 by Architect Sinan. It was repaired after the great flood disaster in 1563. It is 25 m. high and 711 m. long. It is made up of two storey. There are 47 partitions in the first storey and 50 partitions in the upper storey.

Kirik Aqueduct (Kovukkemer)
This aqueduct of Istanbul was constructed over the base of an old Roman aqueduct between 1554-1562. It is 35 m. high and 408 m. long. There are 12 partitions in the first storey, 4 partitions in the first storey of the main aqueduct part with three storeys, 10 partitions in the second storey and 21 partitions on the third storey. It is known by the name “kirikkemer” (broken aqueduct) because of the 90 degrees direction change in its entrance.
