Five Little Monkeys
A Fingerplay
Five little monkeys jumping on the bed.
(Hold up five fingers and make them jump)
One fell off and bumped his head.
(Hold up one finger and hit head with heel of opposite
hand)
Mama called for the doctor and the doctor said,
(Pretend to dial on the phone)
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"
(Shake finger)
Directions:
Continue to repeat the verse ending with one monkey.
Variations:
1. Instead of ending with the last line "No more
monkeys jumping on the bed!", try this one "That's what you get for jumping
on the bed!"
2. Make a puppet glove using monkey figures.
Then use the puppet glove to teach the children the following chant.
Let the children repeat the chant using the puppet glove.
Objectives:
1. To enjoy rhymes and words (language)
2. To act out the monkey's actions (social-emotional).
Discussion Questions:
1. What did the mother do to make the injured monkey
feel better?
2. Where is a safe place to jump?
Evaluation:
1. Observe children chanting
2. Observe children acting out motions
3. Discuss with children
4. Observe children laughing and having fun
