ALL’S WELL AS ENDS WELL
Chapter Three
"Did I ever mention that I
hate dresses?" Katy whispered to me.
"Yes, in fact. Eight million
times!" I answered.
"I’ll let you try on my
small ones that I can’t fit into," Rose said.
"Hey, Rose?" Katy
asked.
"What?"
"Do you like dresses?"
Katy asked. I slapped my forehead.
"Well, no."
"Ha!" Katy screamed.
"Is she all right?"
Rose asked.
"Yeah. She does this
about…" I counted up on my fingers. "…six times a day!" I put my
hand on her head to calm her down, while Rose started rummaging through her
dresses. "Katherine Alcott! Calm down!" I whisper-shouted. Rose
picked two dresses out, not too fancy and not too simple. They would, at least,
make us look like first class people. Mine was a blue dress, and Katy's was a
green dress. They both had white lace trim that went around our necks and down
to our waists in the middle. They were also long-sleeved.
"Ugh," groaned Katy,
"I hate dresses," she said, looking at herself in the mirror.
"Oh, it's not that
bad," I said. "At least we don't have to wear corsets," I added
reassuringly.
"Girls, if you want to stay
with me, I have an extra room for you."
"No, thanks," I said.
"We'll stay out on the benches," I said.
"Oh…all right."
"Um…Rose, can you tell your
mother, Cal, and the maids to let us in? Just in case we need to talk to
you," I said.
"Oh, of course," she
answered.
"Thanks for the dresses. We
have to go!" I said. We walked out.
"I can't wait to get out of
here!" Katy grumbled.
"But I thought you like the
Titanic!" I said.
"Yes, but the dress? Come
on."
"I know." Night was
coming. The stars were coming out. "Come on. It's about time Jack saves
Rose!"
