ALL’S WELL AS ENDS WELL
Chapter Thirteen

"Good job, Katy!" I said, happy to see Jack alive and not handless.

"Thank you! Thank you!" Katy said, bowing.

"The...ship is tilting!" Rose exclaimed.

"Yikes, and Katy and I don't have lifebelts," I said. Just then, I realized I could probably go back once Jack and Rose were saved. "The lifeboats! They're all filled," I said.

"We're going rock bottom!" Katy screamed, running toward the bow.

"Katy, be careful!" I said, pulling Rose and Jack up to Katy. I tried to avoid the falling people. I shuddered at the sound of the cracking necks and heads. "Katy!" I screamed. Katy grabbed onto my hand and pulled everyone up. We all climbed over a small gate. I watched the water engulf the ship.

"Rose, Jack, you have to find something you can both float on, or else Jack will freeze," Katy said frantically, closing her eyes as the speed of sinking picked up.

"Hey, Christine," Sean said. "Here. You might want this...you know, to remember." Sean handed me a gold pocket watch with a long silver chain. I put it around my neck.

"We have to jump on three," Jack said as the water started coming closer to us.

"One..." Katy muttered unhappily.

"Two…" Rose said, scared.

"Three!" I screamed. We jumped off and plummeted into the icy cold water. I treaded water with Katy. It was lucky for us that we had taken a lot of swimming lessons. "Jack! Rose!" I screamed.

"We're here," Rose said.

"Where's Sean?" I asked.

"I don't know," Jack said.

"Get on a piece of debris!" Katy said. "There!" she said, pointing to a floating door.

Jack had Rose climb onto it, but it wasn't big enough to hold him. Katy and I looked around to find something else. Katy swam over and brought back a closet door. He climbed onto it. Katy and I treaded water. The icy cold ate away at the heat in our bodies. We treaded the water for a long time. We knew it would be a long time before boats came to rescue us. I heard Rose singing softly. Jack and Rose's hair and clothes were freezing. Katy and I were on the verge of becoming icicles. Soon we heard a boat coming back. I saw the light and screamed.

"Katy, it's time!" I said, but I couldn't find her. "Katy?" I looked in the water. I saw air bubbles. "Oh, God...this isn't good."

I looked around for the whistle. I soon found it in the officer's mouth. I pulled it out and limply swam back over to Rose and Jack.

"Rose, here. Blow this," I rasped. Soon, I heard the whistle. I saw the boat coming for them. That was the last thing I saw before slipping under. I felt the pressure of water against my lungs. Then I passed out.
