Kaci walks out of Michael’s office and down the hall to the Y100 studio. She walks past the studio because Chris is on air when she gets there, so she goes to get a snack from the vending machine and then walks back to the studio. When she returns, Chris is off air, so she walks into the studio.
“Hey Chris!” Kaci says running up to Chris, giving him a hug.
“Hey Kace,” Chris says returning Kaci’s hug.“What have you been up to? We haven’t seen you around here lately!”
“Nothing much really. Justin is recording for a new album and he has me writing some songs for him, but other than that, just going to school and hanging out with Mike.”
“So would you mind going on air in a few minutes?”
“And what would I say?”
“Oh yeah, I forgot today is Thursday! So, we’re promoting Radius, huh?”
“As usual. Plus I have a big announcement.”
“What? What’s the announcement?”
“We have a new DJ.”
“Really, what’s his name?”
“Always assuming it’s a guy, aren’t you Kace?”
“Well…”
“I understand. You have single friends and you’re trying to help them out.”
“Chris!?”
Kory, Y100’s new DJ, comes walking into the studio. Chris makes no introductions. After a while, Michael pops into the studio to get Kaci.
“Time to go,” Michael says to Kaci.
“Hey Michael,” Kory says, trying to be polite.
“Hey Kory,” Mike says taking Kaci’s hand.
“Your girl?” asks Kory.
“Yeah.”
“Oh.”
Kaci pulls Michael aside, into the call screening room.
“Chris needs my help really quick. When I’m done, I’ll go to your office.”
“Okay, but Staci’s on the phone.”
“Tell her that I’m in the studio with Chris and I’ll call her back when I’m done.”
While Kaci and Michael are talking, Kory asks Chris about Kaci.
“Hey Chris, does that girl have any friends?”
“Yeah, why?”
“Are they as hot as she is?”
“Oh, I got you! One of her friends is the sister of Nick Carter and another one, the one closer in age to you, is the cousin of one of her brother’s band mates.”
“Who is she?”
“She’s Kaci Roman, sister of Justin Roman of Vi3.”
“What does she do?”
“She’s usually here every afternoon, especially on Thursday’s and Friday’s, and her friends are usually with her on Friday’s, but I think her friend Staci is going to be coming down today to join Mike tonight on air as his guest DJs.”
“Oh, well, I’m working with Michael tonight, so hopefully I can meet them!”
Michael agrees, walking back into the studio with Kaci, saying bye to Chris and Kory and then heading back to his office down the hall. Chris puts his headphones back on, signaling that he’s going back on air, so Kaci pulls up a mic, as does Kory, following Kaci’s lead.
“We have a special treat today. I have Justin Roman’s sister, Kaci, in the house, as well as our newest DJ, KORY! Now Kaci, you’re 21, so you’ll be joining me at Radius tonight, won’t you?”
“Of course Chris, as I do every Thursday night!”
“Now, ladies, Kory will be on air tonight joining Michael Yo and his guest DJs, so check him out tonight!”
“Wait Chris, I just heard that Kaci and a friend will be joining me and Michael tonight and then heading to the Library!”
Michael comes running into the studio. He walks over to Kaci and whispers something in her ear and signals Chris to go into a song. Chris goes into Sean Paul’s “Get Busy” while everyone is concerned with Kaci.
“How?” Kaci asks Mike.
“He just called and that’s what he told me. I need to take you home.”
“If everything is okay, Staci and I can still come back later for the guest DJs, right?”
“Of course, but right now, I think you should be at home and with your mom and the rest of the family for Justin’s sake.”
“What happened Mike?” Chris asks, concerned for Kaci, as they have become close over the past few months.
“I’ll explain when I get back. I have to take Kaci home.”
Michael and Kaci rush out of the studio. Kaci stops at Michael’s office to pick up her stuff that she left there when she went to the studio to go say hi to Chris. The two leave the station and head back to Kaci’s house.
“So what exactly happened?”
“I don’t know. Jackie called and told me to tell you to hurry home because something happened to Justin. I guess that’s why Staci was calling earlier.”
“Well, what happened to Justin that I have to go home?”
“They said he’s in the emergency room.”
“So why am I going home? Shouldn’t I be going to the hospital instead?”
“Staci and Kim are still at your house with Jackie. Jackie will be taking you guys to the hospital where Justin is with your mom and Lucas.”
“Oh, but I still want to come back to the station later. Can you at least inform Woody that there is the chance me and Staci will be back?”
“Woody knows by now that you just drop in at night. But I will tell him that Staci would be with you.”
“Thank you baby!”
Michael takes Kaci home, dropping her off in her driveway and then leaving to go back to the station. When he gets back to the station he calls Kaci.
“Hey baby, how’s Justin doing?”
“I guess he’s doing good. I’m outside the hospital with a friend of mine from when I used to work here, so if you don’t mind, I’d like to catch up with him. I’ll call you when I know something and I’ll see you later with Staci.”
“Okay, I was just making sure everything was okay.”
“Thank you baby for your concern, but as far as I know, everything is fine.”
“If everything was fine you wouldn’t be at the hospital Kaci!”
“I know that, but no one has come to find me to tell me otherwise, so I’m taking that as a good thing.”
“Okay, I see where you’re coming from. I will see you later. I love you.”
“Me too. See you later.”
Kaci hangs up with Michael and goes back to talking to Jose, her friend from when she used to work at the hospital.
“Boyfriend?”
“Yeah. Still interested?”
“Of course. What you doing later?”
“I’ll be at the station later, but I’ll also be at Radius after I leave the station at like nine or so. So I should be at Radius by ten, if you want to meet up then.”
“Who is going to be there?”
“Well, I’m bringing my friends Staci and Kim. Staci is the cousin of Jackie, who’s in my brother’s group, and Kim is the sister of Nick Carter. So they’ll probably be there too, and maybe Lucas, who’s also in my brother’s group. And then of course, Chris from Y100."
“Oh, so you’re working tonight?”
“Yes and no. There’s nothing really going on tonight at Radius that I know of. Chris just told me to come and party and bring a few friends.”
“Well, in that case, I’ll be there. Can I have your number so I can find you there?”
“What’s yours? I’ll call you later and give you the number then, since you have to leave and I have to go see my brother.”
“Where’s your brother?”
“In the emergency room. That’s the only reason that I’m here. Otherwise I’d still be in Miramar actually working.”
“Oh. Well, since that’s how it is, I’ll give you the number and you better call me later. Last time you said you would, you never did!”
“I know. But I didn’t have to work that night. I don’t go there any more to work. They canceled the contract with Mike and now this other chick Carolína does it for him, and Mike doesn’t want me working with her.”
“I’m guessing Mike is your boyfriend. Is he going to be at Radius tonight?”
“No, just Chris, and Chris knows to keep quiet because he knows all, or at least most, of my friends are guys. But like I said, I’m not really working there tonight. I’m there to party, it just so happens that Y100 is going to be there. Plus since I’m ‘in-the-biz’ I can get you in for free. So when you get there, just call me. I’ll call you later.”
“Where’s your phone? I’ll just program my number in it.”
“No, you can tell me your number and I’ll program it!”
“954-573-9201.”
“Okay, so now I’m guessing that you want mine so that you know it’s me when I call, right?”
“Good guess!”
“754-224-7095. But if I’m still at the station when I call you, it won’t be that number, it’ll be a 954-862 number.”
“Well, what’s after 954-862?”
“That I couldn’t tell you because I wouldn’t know which phone I’d be calling from. But if it comes up with 954-862, it’s me.”
“Well, what’s most likely the number that it would come up with?”
“Damn Chino, I’ve never seen you this desperate for a phone number!”
“Well, it is you Jessica!”
“Wow, no one ever calls me Jessica any more! WOW! I forgot that I haven’t seen you in a while!”
“Why what does everyone call you now?”
“Kaci.”
“How do you get Kaci from Jessica?”
“It’s my middle name.”
“Oh. Well, anyway, what’s that number, I have to get going and you have to go check up on your brother.”
“It might be 954-862-3304. That’s Mike’s direct line.”
“Okay, if I don’t hear from you by nine, I’ll call you on your cell.”
“You’ll hear from me before nine. Listen to Y100 tonight though. I’ll be on air with Staci, Mike and their new DJ, Kory.”
“What time?”
“Between six and nine.”
“Will do. Well, I guess that I’ll see you later.”
“Yes, definitely!”
Jose gets in his car and leaves and Kaci goes back to the emergency room to see how Justin is doing.
“We’re going out tonight guys,” Kaci says when she finds Staci, Kim, Jackie and Lucas all surrounding the TV watching some sports station.
“What?” asks Staci.
“I told you Staci earlier that me and you were going to be Mike’s guest DJs tonight and while I was at the station earlier before all this happened, Chris told me to tell everyone that they’re invited to a party tonight at Radius. Kim, you need to call your brother and tell him to get his butt up here NOW. As for Staci having someone with her, she’s going to be with Kory, who I just met and is interested. Mike won’t be there, so I invited a friend that I used to work with. Kim, you’re on your own, unless you and Jackie or Lucas can work something out.”
“Why can’t I just be with Nick?”
“Kim! He’s your BROTHER!”
“No one there would have to know that!”
“Kim, these are Y100 listeners, who listen to your brother and probably know more about him than he does! Of course they’re going to know that you are his sister!”
“Fine, I’ll go call my brother, but he probably won’t want to come anyway.”
