Broken Hearts

Chapter 9 ~ Admiration

As morning was dawning, a fresh breeze blew through the open window. The cool air swept across Howie’s face, as an alarm clock began to sound from across the room. He turned onto his side to try to ignore the annoying sound. He could hear moans coming from the other beds, as the other guys began to stir.

“Shut the damn thing off…” AJ moaned.

After about 5 minutes, Kevin finally got and turned it off .He hated getting up early. Sleep was one of his best friends. However, he also had a schedule to follow and hated being late even more. Dragging himself out of bed, he clumsily went over to the closet, grabbed some clothes, and headed for the shower. The hot water was invigorating, as it ran over his body. Ten minutes later, he was washed up and facing the mirror; wearing only a towel. After running a comb through his hair, he ran his fingers along his jaw line.

“ I think it’s ‘bout time for a shave…” as he bent down to retrieve his shaving kit.

Fifteen minutes later, he was toweling his face off and slapping on some aftershave. After getting dressed, he walked out, and went over to wake up Howie.

“Hey.. Howie.. D, you better get up and hit the showers. We gotta be in the studio by 8am. I’m heading downstairs to start the coffee. Wake up the others before you hit the shower, ok?”

“Yeah, yeah.. alright.” He said with a yawn As Howie started to get up, Kevin headed down the stairs.

A beautiful day was beginning as he filled the coffee pot with water. He couldn’t enjoy it until he at least had his first cup of coffee. Mornings weren’t his thing. Actually, he didn’t think that they were anyone’s favorite. Who would want to get up this early every morning? He certainly didn’t, but was used to it, as it had become his lifestyle over the past several years.

He put two whole-wheat waffles into the toaster and grabbed the orange juice from the refrigerator. The smell of coffee filled his lungs as he buttered and put syrup on the waffles. He grabbed a mug and filled it almost full with the delicious, bold taste of a morning rush.

As he sat down to eat, he could hear the guys upstairs hustling around and Brian yelling at Nick to get up. He was always the last one up. Finishing his breakfast, he got up to get his second cup of coffee, when he saw Brie’s letter sitting on the island. The whole situation was peculiar and he didn’t really know what to think of it. It was out of the blue and he couldn’t think of one reason why she would have been fired. Maybe, it was in her letter. He hoped that she had told him what had happened and then maybe he could try to fix it and get her back. He grabbed the stack of papers and opened the one with his name on it.

Kevin ~

I’m sorry that this is the way I have to say goodbye. Of course, saying goodbye in person would have probably been much harder for me to handle anyway. I wish you could help me figure out what I’m supposed to do now. I’m actually kinda scared. This is all I’ve known for the past 5 years You’re such a great role model, and over the years, I’ve grown to see you as an older brother. If I ever had one, I wish that he could be like you. Thank you for all the support and putting up with me and all my quirks. Oh and by the way, I’ll always remember your rendition of Aladdin’s “A whole new world” coming from the shower. It was perfection! J Hey, we all have to laugh at ourselves every once in a while, right? Remember the chopsticks incident?

I will never forget, when you had me come into the studio with you guys for the first time. It was an amazing experience. I got to see how focused you are on your work and how important it is to you.. I know the guys get frustrated with you sometimes, because you want everything to be perfect, but you have to make them see that it’s also for their benefit too in the long run.

Oh, and please try to be more patient with Nick . He’s still young yet and thinks totally different. I think if he had his way, he’d be young forever. Someday, he will grow to see that his childish ways wont do anymore and he’ll have to grow up. On the other hand, we all have an inner child. Also, keep in mind; he also has problems back home. Its tough on him. Now, AJ, well that is a totally different story. Use you own discretion.

Anyway, I also want to thank you for teaching me how to ride. I’ve always wanted to learn. It’s such a release and I love connecting with nature like that. Plus, I can get down and dirty and not care! Haha.

Most importantly, I can’t thank you enough for your friendship and all the opportunities you’ve given me. It’s been a blessing and I truly treasure it.. I hope that someday, you find the right girl and settle down. You would make a terrific father. In addition, she had better cook as good as your mother! Right? Haha.

Alright, I think I’ve babbled enough. I hate goodbyes and the longer I prolong it, the harder it is. Therefore, I wish you the very best and maybe we will see each other again in the future.

With much love,

Brie

Her letter made him laugh but also made tears come to his eyes. She was so sweet. She just had this way about her, which you couldn’t forget. She never said anything about her departure, especially the reason. He wondered why. Did she not want them to know? Knowing her, she probably didn’t want to cause trouble.

‘Well, when I found out the truth, there might be some trouble…’
