Broken Hearts

Chapter 10 ~ Old Memories

As the sun was finishing making its way up in the sky, Kev’s Tahoe pulled into Sun 7 parking lot. They all piled out with their caffeinated beverages in hand. They walked in, signed in and went straight back into the studio. They were greeted by Andrew Fromm, Max Martin and a couple others songwriters.

“Hey guys, nice to see you again” Max said, shaking their hands.

“You, too, man” AJ said

“Hey, Andrew” Brian said giving him a hug.

“Hey, How’ve you been?”

“oh, hangin in there..”

“Hey there, blondie” Andrew said referring to Nick

“Hey, back. It’s been a while, man. How’ve been?”

“Pretty good. What about you?”

“Oh, you know.. busy as usual.”

“Well, hey.. guys sorry to cut this short but we gotta get started.” Max stated.

The guys sat down and they all threw around ideas for songs and heard some melodies that Andrew had come up with. Some were fits and some were not. Then Andrew pulled out a song, gave it a look over and then addressed the guys.

“Hey, I, um, thought that this could work for you guys. I wrote it a long time ago and I thought that maybe it might be a fit for Nick. What do you guys think?” handing them a copy.

“You mean as a solo?” Howie asked

“Yeah, I just think it would be better for him, because of his younger, rock sounding vocals.”

Looking it over, they thought it was a good song. Nick read it over a couple of times. He liked the song, even if it was a ballad. He knew he was going to have to invoke some passion into it, considering it was about a broken relationship and wanting reconciliation.

“Do you have a melody to go with it, by chance?”

“No, but I’m sure we can play with it. I am thinking of starting with some piano and going from there.”

“Ok. Well, I’m up for it, if you are. “

“Alright. Well, we can go in the mixing studio later and see what we can find.”

They continued trying to come up with ideas and Brian even brought out his guitar. After a couple more hours, they decided to stop for the day. They grabbed something to eat and then went their separate ways, with Nick going back with Andrew to mix some tunes. When the rest of the guys got back: Brian went to go shoot some hoops, AJ went to check out some shops, looking for accessories, Kev had gone to talk on his cell phone and Howie went up to their room to lay back and relax, putting in his mp3 player. It was so nice being in solitude. You didn’t get of it, if any in their business. He relished it and knew it wouldn’t be long before he would be interrupted. After a while, he sat up and looked around the room when it caught his eye: Brie’s letter. He had set it on top of his suitcase last night and didn’t even give it a thought. He figured he could read it now, since he had nothing else to do and no one would bother him. At least he hoped. He reached over, grabbed it, and leaned back up against the railing with the pillows stacked behind him. He let out a sigh, opened it up, and began to read.

Howie ~

I’m sorry this is how I have to say goodbye. Some dreams are just short-lived, I guess. The time I have spent with you guys has been wonderful. We’ve traveled far & wide, met interesting people, seen and eaten some crazy things and had some amazing little adventures. I know I definitely won’t be eating traditional Japanese food again. Just remembering it, makes me cringe.

I’m sorry for all times that we played tricks on you, while you were sleeping. I still have some photos of them. They crack me up. You might have to find somewhere to lock yourself in, in order to sleep without being picked on. Don’t even think of the bathroom, either!

Speaking of pictures, remember when you took me salsa dancing? Now, that’s a laugh. It was a blast, but oh my gosh, was it an experience. I was so horrible in the beginning but by the end, I wasn’t half bad. Thanks to you. Your patience has to be endless. Maybe, I can find some time in the future to practice a bit more.

I will miss your sweet smile and big heart. You’re such a teddy bear. One, with style I might add. You and Kev seem to always be one notch above the rest. I love how you’re so close to your family. I enjoyed meeting them. They are great people. I wish that I was closer to mine, but I guess now, I will get that chance. You, the guys, and the crew have been my family for the last 5 years. I feel like I’m leaving home for the first time, and starting out on my own again. It’s a scary feeling. I just hope I can make it. Most importantly, I can’t thank you enough for your friendship and all the opportunities you’ve given me. It’s been a blessing and I truly treasure it. I hate goodbyes and the longer I prolong it, the harder it is. Therefore, I wish you the very best and maybe we will see each other again in the future.

With much love,

Brie

Just thinking back, reliving some of the memories, made me laugh. Especially, remembering her on the dance floor. Despite it all, it was fun. I have to admit that. And oh my gosh, I could I ever forget her face, when we went to that Japanese restaurant. Just seeing it in my mind, made me laugh out loud. She is such a great person. She’s funny and caring and despite all the hard work she does, she still finds time and wants to hang out with us, no matter how crazy we are. Letting out a sigh, I don’t know how Johnny could fire her. I don’t get it. What in the world could he possibility fire her over? She had done such an amazing job over the past 5 years. Even better than the person that we had before her. Just hearing the desperation in her words made my heart ache. I wanted to be there for her, but I didn’t even know where she was. I didn’t have her number, so I couldn’t even call and talk to her. I just hope that she finds her way and hopefully, we will see each other sometime in the future.

Just as I folded the letter back, and tossed it towards the end of the bed and was ready to lie back down again, Kevin poked his head in the doorway.

“Hey, could you help me with something?”

He was right; the peace wouldn’t last long. Letting out a sigh, he unplugged his mp3 player and got up.

“Yeah, sure” and followed him out the door.
