Movie Reviews

We love to go see movies. We see quite a few of them. So we decided to dedicate a section of our site to all the movies we have seen this year so far. Susana's review and stars will be in lime green. We made my friend Kevin do his own version of these reviews. His are in red. They are all direct quotes from him. He didn't type these.

Summer 1998 and previous movie reviews can be found here.

WOO! Totally awesome!
Really Good
Okay
Blah, wasn't good
CRAP!

Blair Witch Project
R
I saw it on: August 10, 1999
Good Song: none
Star: those 3 people (i don't know names)

I'm sorry to all those that liked this, but I think it sucked! It was only scary at the end. The idea was ok, but provided for shaky camera work and horibble lighting. Overall it was just dumb and fake.

Dick
PG-13
I saw it on: August 9, 1999
Good Song: none
Star: Michelle Williams and Kirsten Dunst

This was a very much ok movie. It was middle of the line. The plot was original and it was kinda funny, but not really. I have seen better, although it wasn't horrible.

The Haunting
PG-13
I saw it on: July 23, 1999
Good Song: ?????
Star: Cathrine Zeta Jones

This movie was pretty cool. Not the scariest. But still thrilling. It started out really good, but I didn't really like the ending. I never saw the original though.

Drop Dead Gorgeous
PG-13
I saw it on: July 23, and August 4, 1999
Good Song: ?????
Star: Kirsten Dunst, Denise Richards, and Kirstie Alley

This movie was funny. Except all the people's accents were annoying. I loved the part the guy from MAD tv played. He was funny. Uhhhh, well, all I can say is see this movie.

American Pie
R
I saw it on: July 22, 1999
Good Song: ?????
Star: Allison Hannigan

AWESOME! I loved it. It was soooooo funny. Except there was one totally unessesary scene. "The Pie Scene" is good. This movie is original, funny, and original, see it as soon as you can.

Wild Wild West
PG-13
I saw it on: July 6, 1999
BAD Song: "Wild Wild West" by Will Smith
Stars: Will Smith, Kevin Kline, and Salma Hyeck

Again this movie was better than I thought it'd be but still. It wasn't that great. There were a few funny parts, but the plot was lame.

Big Daddy
PG-13
I saw it on: June 27, 1999
Good Song: ????
Star: Adam Sandler

This movie was better than I thought it would be. But still, I didn't really like it. To me Adam Sandler movies are getting less and less funny.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me
PG-13
I saw it on: June 23, 1999; July 14, 1999; and one other day
BAD Songs: "American Woman" by Lenny Kravitz and "Beautiful Stranger" by Madonna
Star: Austin Powers, Seth Green, and Heather Gram (sp?)

1/2
This movie was great! Just as good if not better than the original. But the "stool sample" part was just gross! My favorite line (and part) - "Wang, Pay Attention!"

Notting Hill
Not Rated
I saw it on: May 30, 1999
Good song: ????
Star: Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant

Again, this movie was ok. (Like the one below) But it was "cute." If you like to use that word. Pretty predictable but hey, at least Hugh Grant's roommate was funny! HA!

A Midsummer Night's Dream
Rated PG-13
I saw it on: May 28, 1999
Good song: ????
Star: Michelle Phifer and Calista Flockhart

I guess this movie was enjoyable. I expected better, but oh well. Its not a must see, nor a piece o' crap. But if you're like me and you get in free to the movies (I work there!) then see it.

Episode 1 : The Phantom Menace
Rated PG
I saw it on: May 19, 1999 (OPENING DAY BABY!); May 21,1999; and June 13, 1999!!! Good song: ????
Star: Ewan McGreggor, Natalie Portman, and those other dudes

WOO! This was cool. Not as good as I hoped it would be, but nothing could live up to all its hype. It still rocked! The acting was as it always has been, plot was cool, and the effects. All I have to say is WOO! They did a good job with that. George Lucas is a genius!

The Matrix
Rated R
I saw it on: May 14, 1999 Good song: ????
Star: Keanu Reeves

This movie was WAY cooler than I thought it would be. I expected some thrown togther movie that was ok, not much. I wasn't going to see it. I'm glad I did. The effects were great and the whole plot was good. I definately recommend this one.

Entrapment
Rated PG-13
I saw it on: May 8, 1999 Good song: ????
Star: Sean Connery

This was better than it looked in the previews. But I still didn't think a lot of it. It held my interest and luckily I didn't have to pay to see this!

Election
Rated R
I saw it on: May 7, 1999 Good song: ????
Stars: Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick

1/2
SUCKS! I did not like this movie. To me it was not funny, like it was suposed to be. Oh wait, there was one remotely funny part. I'm sorry to bash this movie, but I haven't seen a bad one in a while. It got that extra 1/2 star because Reese Witherspoon, one of my favorite actresses, was in it.

GO
Rated R
I saw it on: April 17, 1999 Good song: "New" by No Doubt
Stars: Katie Holmes and Scott Wolf

A good movie for teenagers and 20 somethings. Its done in a neat manner. You see the same story from 4 different people's point of views. That was cool. The soundtrack and plotline are good too.

10 Things I Hate About You
Rated PG-13
I saw it on: March 31, 1999 Good song: A bunch of stuff from "grrl" bands
Stars: Larissa Olyneck (sp?) and I forgot the names of the others

A total teen movie. Its was based off of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. Only the plot though, the rest was all modern. I really liked it. It was funny and hip (I hate that word). See this one!

Analize This!
Rated R
I saw it on: March 21, 1999 Good song: ????
Stars: Robert Deniro and Billy Crystal

Much better than it looked from the commercials. There were a few gross parts, but overall it was okay. Pretty funny too. Its about a gangster who seeks professional help from a therapist.

Cruel Intentions
Rated R
I saw it on: March 6, 1999 BAD song: "Praise You" by Fat Boy Slim
Stars: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillipe, and Joshua Jackson

This was a cool movie. It was all about seduction and "love." I like the surprise ending. No matter what the critics said, I still enjoyed this one. If you do see it, make sure you're comfortable with the topic.

She's All That
Rated PG-13
I saw it on: February 5, 1999 and February 20, 1999
BAD song: "Kiss Me" by Six Pence None the Richer
Stars: Rachel Leigh Cook and Freddie Prinze Jr.

Awesome! I loved this movie a lot! It was soooooo cool. Rachell Leigh Cook was very good and Freddie Prinze Jr. did a good job in it too. (Plus he is oh so cute!) There was one very sick part that almost made me puke. The movie definately made up for that. Woo Hoo!

Varsity Blues
Rated R
I saw it on: January 1, 1999
Good song: "Nice Guys Finish Last" by Green Day
Stars: James Van Der Beek and that guy from Mission Impossible

Fun but intense! These words descibe this movie. It was hee-larious, but also very intense and kinda stereotypical. The two pitfalls were the predictible ending and the female nudity. I don't like female nudity. There is already way too much in the media. It was not necessary in this film. But I really liked this movie anyway. And James Van der Beek was a plus!

A Bug's Life
Rated G
He saw it on: December 28, 1998
I saw it on: January 1, 99 Good song: none
Stars: Niles from Fraiser and that chunky dude from Spin City.

and 1/2
This movie was much better than I expected. In fact at first I didn't plan to see it. I thought it looked kind lame. But after some persuasion by Kevin and Lindsey I saw it. And I liked it. The ladybug was the coolest character. This is not just a movie for kids, people as picky as me liked it!

It was funny, especially the outtakes.

Enemy of the State
Rated R
I saw it on: Decemeber 22, 1998
Good song: ?
Stars: Will Smith

Enemy of the State was one neato movie. Will Smith was very good in it. I liked it a lot. this is partially because I was reminded of my favorite show, The X-Files, with all the conspiracy stuff. See it, this movie rocks!

Very Bad Things
Rated R
I saw it on: November 28, 1998
Good song: ?
Stars: Cameron Diaz and that crazy guy from Something About Mary (not Ben Stiller)

and 1/2
This dark comedy was very interesting. I like it quite a bit. Although I liked Something About Mary even better. Despite the bad reviews, the movie was very funny. Not for the faint of heart. The end is unusual too. Oh yeah and there is plenty of female nudity (10 freakin' minutes of it, I didn't watch, ew!!) this movie could have done fine without.

I Still Know . . .
Rated R
I saw it on: November 20, 1998
Good song: ?
Stars: Jennifer Love Heiwitt, Brandy Norwood, and Freddie Prinze Jr.

Wow! This movie was pretty awesome. It was better than the first. WOO! It was definately gorier. But I personally love gory movies. This deaths in this movie were original and interesting. This movie was way cool. (And this is with the fact that I strongly despise Jennifer Love Hewitt)

Water Boy
Rated PG-13
I saw it on: November 6, 1998
Good song: ?
Stars: Adam Sandler, Cathy Bates, and Fariuza Balk

This movie was fun-nay! Oh yeah! It was just another crazy Adam Sandler movie and of course it lived up to my expectations. I did like it though.

There's Something About Mary
Rated R
I saw it on: October 24, 1998
Good song: ??? - Goldfinger
Stars: Ben Stiller, and Cameron Diaz

I finally saw this movie. It was so funny! I loved it! Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller were great in it. They did a good job. I don't have much else to say, but I guess I know the answer to, "Whats in her hair?"

A Night at the Roxbury
Rated PG-13
We saw it on: October 2, 1998
Good song: What is Love - Haddaway
Stars: Chris Kattan, Will Ferrel, and Elisa Donovan

THE ROXBURY GUYS RULE! I liked this movie. It wasn't what I expected but it was good. It could've been better. I liked the ending and Chris Kattan is soooo cool. But they should've played "What is Love" more.

That movie was the coolest.

Urban Legend
Rated R
I saw it on: September 25, 1998
Good song: ???
Stars: girl from Cybil, girl from scream 2, Joshua Jackson, and Jared Leto

WOO! This movie was scary and fun. The plot was really new and different. I love that joshua jackson (pacey from dawson's creek) was in it! He rules! But otherwise, the deaths were creative and gory. Gore is cool!

Dead Man on Campus
Rated R
We saw it on: September 9, 1998
Good song: ???
Stars: Mark Paul Gosseler

RILLY FUNNY! This movie was hilarious. Its was so awesome. The plot was rockin' too. A must see!

That was cool.
