Chapter Seven
AJ looked at the piece of paper uneasily. 'What if
it's not the right number?' he thought. 'Can't hurt to try.'
He picked up his phone and began to dial the
numbers...

'Another boring day at the firm,' Sammy thought. She
got up and went to the coffee pot to get another cup of coffee.
"How many is that?" her friend Anne asked. "What? Twelve?
Thirteen?"
"Only three," I said as I held back my laughter. We
secretaries had to be really quiet for the big lawyers.
Just then, Anne's phone rang.
"This is Brown and Brown Attorney Office. How may I
help you?" She arched her eyebrows with surprise. "Hold on. I'll get
her."
She put her hand over the phone and squealed,
"Sammy...since when do we have celebrities calling here?"
"Huh?" Sammy replied with confusion.
"An AJ McLean is on the phone for you."
'How the hell did he get my work number?' she thought.
"Tell him I'm busy!" I made a mental note to kill Nick later because he was
the only one I had given my number to.
"Oh please," Anne retorted. "Just pick up the damn
phone. You were just complaining on how bored you were."
Sammy shook her head no. Anne took her hand off the
phone and practically yelled, "Sammy you have a phone call. You better come
and get it! It sounds really important."
Sammy glared at Anne and marched over to her. and snatched
the phone out of her hand.
"Hello?" she said.
"Hey Sammy." He said casually. On the inside he was
nervous as hell. He didn't want her to think he was some stalker or weirdo
ex-boyfriend.
"I'm really busy right now so what do you want?" She
immediately chided herself for sounding so rude but AJ didn't seem to
notice.
"I really need to talk to you so do you think we can
meet for lunch?"
"Well, maybe, but I'd have to leave early. I'm extremely
busy."
"That's Ok. Do you know where Smith's Cafe is?"
"Umm yeah," she lied.
"Ok good. I'll meet you there at 12."
"Ok bye."
"Bye."
She hung up the phone.
"Well..." Anne inquired.
"I am going to kill you!"
"Maybe you two can get back together and--"
"Not a chance! Now, tell me, where is Smith's
Cafe?"
"It's on Third and Washington."
"Thanks. he picked a perfect place for us to meet.
Across town!" she said grabbing her car keys.
"How sweet! You're going to see your true love!
Awww!"
"Shut up!" Sammy called as she headed out the
door.
