Chapter 4

As Leah rolled over in her bed the next morning she felt the throbbing in the back of her head start. She pulled the pillow over her head trying to block out the sunlight from her opened curtains. When she didn’t succeed she tossed the pillow to the floor and threw the bed covers back. Suddenly the previous nights events came flooding back to her. The bar, Molly and Matt playing tonsil hockey and then there was Jeff. A guy she had only just met and she new when she met him there was something about him, and now she knew, everything he did seemed to piss her off. His accent, his hard cold green eyes, his freaky coloured hair, even his breathing annoyed her. She hated him. Without a doubt he was the person in the world who she hated the most. His presence made her wanna slap him.

As she stood up she grabbed a pair of purple trousers and a matching halter neck and put them on. She knew she that she would have to put up with Jeff if she was going to have this interview with Vince about a set designer but she didn’t know if she could put up with that purpled haired freak for days and weeks at a time.

She grabbed her trainers and put them on her feet. As she left the room she put her hair into a lose bun and headed down to get some breakfast.

As she walked into the living room she looked at the clock 12:45. “Shit!” she mumbled under her breath. She could smell something cooking from the kitchen so she headed in that direction. When she got to the door she stared in disbelief. “What the hell is going on here?”

The three faces in the kitchen stared at her with blank faces. “I thought I told him to get the hell out!” she snapped as she looked at Jeff leaning against the far counter.

“Leah, come on be reasonable.” Molly said as she approached her friend.

“No. I told him out and I mean it. And if you two have a problem with that I suggest you go to.” She finished as she turned and left the room.

“Someone’s grumpy in the morning.” Matt commented as he took a sip of his coffee.

“I’ve never seen her like this.” Molly said a she sighed. “She usually gets on with everyone. I mean she isn’t the one to go around picking fights unless she is provoked.”

“Hey!” Jeff said from the back of the room. “I’m right here. Slag me of when I’m not around. And I did not provoke her!! It’s not my fault if she has no sense of humour.”

“I don’t think it’s a case of that Jeff. I think that if you insult her taste and likes then you are going to piss her of and I don’t blame her for flying at you.”

“Guys, calm down lets just go talk to her and sort this out.” Matt said taking Molly’s hand and beckoning Jeff to follow him as he walked into the living room where Leah lay on the sofa curled up I a tight ball.

“Lee.” Molly said as she walked to Leah’s side and knelt down. “What is this all about?”

Leah just lifted her head and looked at Molly. Tears pooled in her eyes. “I don’t know.” She said as a tear left her eye and slowly made it’s way down her cheek. Molly went to comfort her but Leah stood up before she could. “I’m going back upstairs and when I come down I do NOT want him here!” she snapped pointing at Jeff.  “And like I said if you have a problem then I suggest you go too.”

When Leah had left the room Molly slumped down on the coach and rested her head in her hands.  Matt went to sit down next to her but she told him not to as she was going to go for a walk. Matt said he would go with her. But Jeff didn’t want to go but he really didn’t want to stay ain Leah’s house.

“Go to the hotel or something.” Matt said as he grabbed his and Molly’s jackets.

“It’s boring. I might just stay here and watch TV or something.”

“You must have a death wish!” Matt said as he opened the door and let Molly through. “We’ll be back in about an hour.” He said as he closed the door and took Molly’s hand leading her down the steps from the front of the house.

Back in the house Jeff sat on the sofa and sighed. He kicked his boots of and put his feet up on the coffee table. He grabbed the TV remote and began to flick through the channels. Finally he settled to watch the re-run of Smackdown!

Leah had managed to stop herself crying as she left her bedroom. This time with her hair in neat plaited pigtails. She had applied pale purple eye shadow and a layer of lip-gloss to her lips.  She made her way downstairs and she walked into the living room and stopped dead when she saw Jeff sitting on the sofa. “Are you deaf or just plain stupid?” she asked with a flat tone.

“Stupid I guess. We’ll that makes two of us I guess.” He said raising his eyebrow as he looked over at her.

“Speak for yourself.” She replied as she looked away from him but still feeling his eyes on her. She began to tidy away magazines and odd bits of paper.

“You look nice.” Jeff said from his seat on the sofa.

“What?” Leah questioned as she looked at him, a pile of magazines in hand.

“You look nice.” He replied.

Leah looked at him with an element of doubt in her eyes.

“You do.” He replied standing up and walking to her.

“Well, thanks.” She replied as she backed away from him and carried on putting the magazines in the bottom cupboard.

“You need to learn to take a compliment.”

“I can, if I don’t think the person giving it to me is lying.”

“Jesus Leah. What the hell have I done to you?”

Leah stood up and looked at him. His eyes piercing her own. “I don’t know.” She said laughing ever so slightly.

“Me either.” He said smiling back at her.

“It’s just that you…. well you kinda…. just sorta, well to be honest I don’t like you much.” She finished looking away from him.

“At least your honest.” He said shyly laughing as she picked up a bunch of e-mails form the computer table. “But that doesn’t tell me why.”

“I know. But I can’t tell myself why. So I can’t tell you why.”

“Ok, so you don’t like me much and I’m not a great fan of yours but we have to learn to get on, not for our sakes but for Matt and Molly.”

“I know. Molly’s my best mates and I wouldn’t do anything to hurt her but if I have to be around someone who drives me mad half the time and we end up fighting then it’s going to hurt her and hers and Matt’s relationship.”

“So, you can’t even stand being around me?”

“Not really. I have the biggest urge to just…just…oh it doesn’t matter.” She said as she put some CD’s back into there cases.

“Tell me!” Jeff demanded as Leah turned to look at him.

“No. It’s not important. The important thing is I don’t think I could be on the road with Molly, Matt and you.” She said pointing at him before crossing her arms over her chest. “So I guess the only thing I can do is not go for that interview.”

“Why? Because of me? That’s a little over the top.”

“I know but other wise we will argue and hurt Matt and Molly. And I don’t want to do that.”

“Doesn’t arguing with me hurt you?”

“No, not really, I mean you’re not a friend or anything so not it doesn’t. Why? Does it hurt you?”

“Yes.”

“Why?” Leah asked again as he sat down on the sofa, she put the CD’s in the rack and walked over and sat on the coffee table facing him.

“Because you don’t know me and I think if you did you would like me. But you just judged me on a couple of little things and then you tell me you don’t like me. Why wouldn’t I be offended and hurt?”

“Because you said you’re not fan of mine. Meaning that you don’t like me either.”

“But there’s a difference. I want to get to like you.”

“Why? Because I have been a bitch to you and I’m sorry but I can’t help the way I feel and if I don’t like someone then they know about it.”

“So I guess that’s as deep as your feelings go huh?” he said sarcastically.

“Don’t start on me.” Leah warned.

“I thought it didn’t bother you.”

“Fine. Think what you want. You can think I’m a shallow bitch, an ugly wench, and a fat whore because I don’t care Jeff. I don’t give a flying shit.” She said a she got up and walked out of the room.

“No I don’t think you’re any of those, not by along way.” Jeff said under his breath as he buried his head in his hands.
