Chapter 3

As Leah walked down the cold dark streets of Park City Utah, she crossed her arms across her stomach trying to hold in the feeling of fear. She began to quicken her pace as she heard a car slowly crawling along the street. It stopped a couple of foot in front of her and she looked at it. The window opened and she saw Matt poke his head out.

“Wanna ride?” he asked as she stepped up to him.

“No. Not really.”

“Why not? You must be freezing.”

“I’m to depressed to feel anything much.”

“Come on get it.”

“No. Honestly I’m fine. You go back to Molly.”

“I told her I would come get you and we would get some snacks and meet her and Jeff back at the house.”

“I wanna walk.” Leah said as she lifted her hands to cover her eyes as she felt tears come to them. Matt saw before she hid them. He cut the engine and steppe out of the car.

“What’s up?” he asked as he placed a hand on her shoulder.

“I don’t know.” She replied as she began to sob. Matt instantly put his arms around her and let her cry into his chest. She was freezing. Her thin jacket not keeping her warm as she shook from the cold and the crying.

After she had no tears left to cry Matt still held her to try and keep her a bit warmer. “Thanks.” She said as she lifted her head.

“Don’t worry about it.” He said as she moved from his arms. “How about that lift?” she asked forcing a smile to her lips.

“Sure.” He replied as he walked around to the passenger side of the car and opened the door for her.

“You’re a sweet as Molly said you were.” She joked smiling at him as she got into the car.

“That must be them.” Molly said as she heard a car pull up outside. She got to her feet and got four glasses form the cabinet. She also pulled out a bottle of wine and the bottle of whisky.

“Great!” Jeff snarled from the sofa as he heard the front door open and close.

“Hey! I thought I told you!” she snapped as she gave him a warning glare.

Matt followed Leah into the sitting room with two bags in hand. He placed them on the floor and took out some chips and dips and set them on the table. He sat down on the opposite end of the sofa to his brother and put the chips into a bowl.

Molly pulled Leah into the kitchen for a little chat.

“Are you ok?” she asked softly.

“Yeh, I think so. But I’m not in the mood to deal with him.”

“Jeff?”

“Yeh.”

“He told me what happened and I have to say I think you’re both to blame.”

“I know that. But when he’s around I just have this…this…massive urge to hit him.”

“Well can you hold out for an hour? For me?” Molly asked as she looked over her friend who had smudged make up down her cheeks.

“I do anything for you babe. You know that.” She said smiling as she gave Molly a hug. “Even putting up with that ass.”

“Look. It’s simple. Let me explain it to you nice and slow. We are NOT going to watch Friends!! It’s stupid and immature. Actually that probably explains why you like it so much.” Jeff shouted at Leah as another argument between the two had blown up.

“Oh that’s a good one coming from the likes of you!! Maybe Barney is more your level!!”

“No I think that comes in your category!!”

“Like hell it does!! Maybe you ought to get you head out of your own ass and start to think about other things apart from. ‘What colour should I dye my hair… Pink maybe to make me look like the totally fuckin’ prick I am!!!’ and one more thing Jeff. Get the hell out of my house!!!!” she shouted as she pointed at the door. “If I ever see you again it will be to bloody soon. Now get!!!!” she screamed as he got to his feet.

“That’s fine. Your actually doing me a favour because by not being here and not seeing you I want feel my eyes hurt looking at your fucking ugly face!!” he shouted as he grabbed his coat and walked out the door slamming it behind him. Leah stormed out of the sitting room and up the stairs into her bedroom.

“Well, that was entertaining.” Matt said as he looked at Molly.

“God Matt. I wanted them to get on so bad. Especially as Leah is coming on the road with me.”

“Why is she?”

“Because she has an interview with Vince about a designing job.”

“Oh.” Matt said as he got up and walked over to Molly who was nearly in tears. “Hey. Come here.” He said pulling her into his arms.

After a few minutes Molly pulled away and sat down on the sofa. “Where do you think Jeff went?” she asked as she turned the TV off.

“I don’t know. I have the hotel room key. So not there.” He said sitting beside her. “Is this Leah’s house?”

“Yeh. I just stay here when I’m not traveling. It’s my home away from home if you know what I mean. It’s somewhere I can come and relax with no one knowing I’m here.” Molly said as she sighed. “What are we going to do about the Matt?”

“I don’t know babe. I just don’t know.”
