Chapter 18
Jeff
tried to look as if he was feeling nothing; he just looked the gunman dead in
the eye. Leah slowly began to draw the first letter over his back.

Jeff
sat puzzled; he knew what the first name was but Kjdmam? He took in the view of
the masked man. He looked into the cold eyes. Something about them seemed to
strike Jeff as familiar. He recognised the shape of the jaw line. The man in
front of him seemed to flinch as he realised that Jeff was remembering who he
was. He stood up and walked away trying to compose himself before turning back
to the couple.
“Billy
Kidman!” Jeff said after remembering who’s those cold eyes belonged to. He
had wrestled with him in some federation when he was a teenager.
Billy
didn’t move. A smirk crossed his face. “So Hardy you remember? About bloody
time. Didn’t the letters give you enough clues??!!! I told you to leave my
girl alone but did you listen? NO!!!! And now you pay.”
“What
the hell happened to you Billy?”
“I
got sent to prison by that bitch is what happened to me!!!! I did it for us. I
killed them for her and me. They didn’t love her. They made her unhappy. She
would come to me crying and that pissed her parents off. They hated me and I did
what Leah wanted me to do. I did it so we could have been happy, but that
ungrateful bitch never saw it like that.”
“I
never wanted you to kill my parents!!!!!!!!!” Leah screamed as she collapsed
against Jeff. “NEVER!!!”
“We
were meant to be together Leah and we still are. We WILL be together.”
“You
will NEVER have her Billy. I won’t let you hurt her.”
“This
is nothing to do with you Jeff. Now is the time I take you out of the picture
for good.”
With
that Billy lifted the gun and pointed it at Jeff who froze. Leah began screaming
at Billy to stop but his reply was blunt and cold. “This is for us Leah. You
will learn that. Say goodbye Jeff.”
Slowly
Billy’s finger moved onto the trigger. His eyes were locked onto his target,
the frozen man sitting on the sofa. The young woman sitting next to him
screaming at him to stop was too much for him.
The
next thing Leah knew was she was lying on the sofa and her shoulder was cold.
She could remember pushing Jeff over so he would be in Billy’s firing line.
She heard the deathning, sickening bang as Billy pulled the trigger. But now she
felt the warmth of Jeff’s body beneath her but she also felt the blood running
down from her shoulder. Jeff screamed at Billy when he saw that he had got Leah.
Billy froze. His eyes locked on where the bullet had enter Leah’s shoulder,
her body now covered in more blood.
Leah
managed to lift her head. She looked at Billy who let the gun fall to the floor
before he pulled the balaclava of and dropped to his knees. He was crying. He
rocked back and forth as said, “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, I’m sorry,
I’m so sorry…”
Jeff
moved from under Leah who now had her eyes closed and wasn’t moving.
“LEAH!!!” Jeff screamed as he shook her, she was out cold. She had lost to
much blood her body couldn’t cope, it had gone into shut down and if she
didn’t get help now she would die and he knew it. He grabbed the phone and
punched in 911.
After
he had hung up he got up and looked at Billy. He walked of in disgust. He
grabbed a blanket form Leah’s bed and ran back downstairs covering her with
it. He knelt by the sofa and pulled her tightly into his arms. Her chest moved
slightly as he body struggled to breath.
When
the police knocked on the door Jeff went and let them in and they immediately
grabbed Billy and handcuffed him. He was still screaming he was sorry s he was
dragged kicking and screaming into the police car. Moments later the ambulance
arrived and the paramedics lay Leah onto a stretcher and took her from the
house. As they carried her down the driveway a car pulled up. Matt and Molly.
Jeff swore under his breath as he held Leah’s hand. Molly ran up to him and
asked him what happened he just told her to get some stuff for Leah and meet him
at the hospital.
Molly
obeyed but she was confused.
She
watched the ambulance drive of down the street. When Matt reached her side she
was shaking and he wrapped an arm around her and led her up to the house.
They
both froze as they entered the living room. Blood stains on the walls, the sofa,
the carpet and the ornaments that used to decorate the shelves no lay in broken
pieces on the floor.
“What
the hell happened?” Matt asked Molly.
“Oh
God!!! What happened to her?” Molly stuttered out as she began to cry and feel
into Matt’s arms.
After several minutes Molly looked up and ran from the room up to Leah’s. She grabbed a bag and began to throw clothes into it as Matt reached her she shrugged him off and carried on with her task. She zipped the bag up and flung it over her shoulder and began to leave the room as Matt caught her arm.
“Slow
down.”
“NO!!!
MY best friend is in hospital and we don’t know why and you expect me to calm
down!!?? I don’t think so Matt! Are you going to drive me or am I driving
myself?” Molly snapped pulling her arm away from Matt and then holding her
hand out demanding the car keys. Matt considered giving them to the woman that
stood in front of him crying and shaking.
“I’ll
take you. Come on.” He said taking the bag from her and leading her out of the
bedroom and down the stairs to the car.
