Matt stared after Leah,
long after she had run up the stairs. Suddenly he felt Jeff's hand take his.
He jumped slightly, but half smiled at his brother.
"I think I should go
Matt." Jeff said as he led Matt into the house.
"No. We have got to
sort this thing out."
"but she won't listen
to me. She said what she wants, and that's you. I don't want to have to fight
her for you Matt. But I don't wanna lose you."
"I don't want either
of you fighting over me!" Matt snapped taking his hand from Jeff's.
"I love you both and I don't wanna lose either of you."
"But she isn't going
to let that happen is she?" Jeff said as he watched the tears strain his
brothers eyes.
"Jeff, I can't lose
her, or you."
"You can't have us
both Matt. Not any more. She wants you, only you."
"Jeff. I love you. If
I want Leah I can't have you. i'm not going to lose you Jeff."
"I love you
too." Jeff said walking up to his brother and wiping away the tears that
stained his face. "Can't you talk to her? See why she feels like this.
She wouldn't tell me but maybe she will tell you."
"I will Jeff. Just promise me you'll wait down here for me."
"Of course I will
baby." Jeff said embracing his brother.
"Leah, please open
the door baby. We need to talk." Matt said as he stood at her door as he
had been the past half hour. He had tears stinging his face. He wasn't going
to give up on her, not now. "Baby please. I love you Leah. Just let me
talk to you." All Matt could hear coming from the room was Leah's crying.
His heart felt like it broke when he heard her cry. "Baby, please. Just
let me hold you. Please." Matt banged a fist on the door. More tears slid
down his cheeks as he felt a hand on his shoulder. Jeff stood there. He turned
and fell into Jeff's open arms. Jeff held him tightly as he cried. He managed
to pull Matt into the spare room and get him to lay down on the bed. He waited
until Matt had fallen asleep before he left the room and went back to Leah's
door. Before he said anything he walked down the stairs and out of the house.
He walked around the house until he found Leah's bedroom window. He found a
ladder and placed it under her window, which was open about an inch. He
climbed up and opened the window fully. He climbed in and he look around. He
spotted Leah laying curled up on the bed, the moonlight that shone through the
window outlined her body on the bed. He walked over and looked at her. Her
eyes were puffy, even in the dim light he could tell that and he could also
see the tear stains down her face. He sat on the edge of the bed and looked at
her. He leaned over and saw that she held a picture in her hands, holding it
to her chest. He reached over Leah and removed it from her hands. It was a
picture of himself, Leah and Jeff at Amy's birthday party, it was the
night after Leah and Matt had got together. He looked at the now ruined
picture. Leah had taken it from the frame and cut her head out of the picture
so it just left Matt and Jeff smiling. He stared at the picture. What had
changed? Why was she doing this?
Jeff put the picture on
the dresser and got up from the bed. He rolled Leah onto her back and pulled
the covers up over her. He leant down and was about to kiss her forehead as
she slowly opened her eyes.
"Jeff?" She
questioned hesitantly.
"Yeh it's me."
"How did you get in
here?" She asked sitting up.
"The window."
"Oh." Leah said
as she got up from the bed, still only wearing the bikini she had been earlier
that day. "I thought you two would have gone."
"Why would we go
anywhere?"
"Because of the
things I said, rather that I shouted at you."
"Leah, I need to know
why."
"Ok. I guess I owe
you that." Leah said ass she sat down on the bed and pattered the spot
next to her. "I didn't mean any of the things I said earlier. I'm sorry I
said them. I went of the rail like that because I was scared. I was scared
that if you and Matt got closer and closer then he would leave me. And you two
are on the road together all the time, it wouldn't be impossible for it to
happen. I don't want to lose Matt. I love him with all my heart. But..."
Leah trailed of as tears again filled her eyes.
"But what?" Jeff
asked softly as he looked at Leah.
"I'm jealous. I'm so
jealous Jeff. I'm so jealous of you two. you have a bond stronger than anyone
else could ever have. Your brothers as well as lovers. I watch you two
together and I see everything I want."
"Leah, you don't have
to be jealous of us Leah. Matt loves you. You two have a strong bond as well.
You are the only girl I have ever heard Matt tell that he loves them."
"It's not the same
Jeff. It's not just that anyway. There's something else, something I can't
tell you."
"Leah, if this is
going to work between the three of us you have to tell us."
"Jeff it's over." Leah said as she got up from the bed and walked to
the open window. She looked out across the garden. Before she felt Jeff's hand
around her waist, turning her around.
"What is?"
"Me and Matt. You win
Jeff. He's yours." She said as she went to the door and unlocked it. She
walked out and down the stairs.
Jeff stood stunned in the
bedroom. He looked out the window as he heard the splashing of water. He saw
Leah in the pool. She was swimming the length of the pool as she did when she
wanted to think.
