chapter 10 and last!

“Merry Christmas to you too.”

After Leah had dressed they both headed downstairs where they where met by Gil who hugged them both and placed their breakfast on the table. They all ate in silence. Leah and Jeff played footsy under the table, much to Gil’s amusement.

Leah sat in between Jeff’s legs on the floor as the opened presents. Gil sat in his chair and Leah got up and handed him her present. “It’s not much but I hope you like it.” She said as she gave him a kiss on the cheek and went and sat back with Jeff.

Gil unwrapped the gift and took it from its box. He smiled as he looked at it and read the inscription.. “This is wonderful Leah. Thank you so much.” He said ash got up and kissed her cheek again and handed it to Jeff so he could look.

Jeff then got up and took one of his presents her hand for Leah. He handed it to her and sat on the sofa as he watched her with loving eyes as she opened it.

Leah looked at the box in her hand a slowly opened the lid. She gasped slightly as she looked down at the bracelet that had diamonds set into the gold.

“Jeff it’s beautiful.” She said as she carefully removed it from the case and held it lightly in her fingers. She studied it for a few seconds before Jeff got up and came over to her. He took it from her and placed it around her right wrist and fastened it. He looked at it and then to her.

“You like it?” he asked her.

“I love it Jeff. Thank you so much.” She then hugged him tightly and kissed him softly.

After presents the other began to arrive first Matt and Shane then Amy and Shannon. They all brought different parts of the meal and soon they had the dining table was covered in every sort of food you could want. They all where seated and after a quick prayer, spoken by Gil, they began to eat.

After three courses everyone was full and it was now 8pm and everyone sat around the seating area. Jeff got up in front of the group.

“Ok I know we all gave our presents and stuff but I have one more.” He said looking around the now silent group. “For you Leah.”  He said as he smiled and offered her his hand, which she took, and he pulled her from the floor. She stood next to him not sure of what to expect. “You know I love poetry, so just for you I wrote this poem.” He said as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a bit of paper. He unfolded it He turned so he was facing Leah before he began.

From the moment I saw you,

You were different,

You were special,

You were for me.

The sparkle in your eyes when you smile,

The soft sound of your voice,

The softness of your touch,

The warmth of your heart.

So special, so sweet,

So caring, so loving,

So gentle with your ways,

So giving and willing to share.

Holding your hand in mine,

So innocent yet so significant,

Childish yet more grown up than ever,

Reassuring each other with a forever.

To hold you close,

To kiss your lips,

To be by your side,

To never let you down.

Promises we make,

Promises we keep,

Promises never left unfulfilled,

Promises of forever.

I can say these three words,

Three words that hold me to you,

A bond so tight and strong,

Never to be broken.

With all my heart and soul,

I can say this to you,

I mean every word,

I love you.

As he finished he looked up at Leah who had tear down her cheeks. She instantly hugged him and held him tight. When they pulled away they looked at the group around them. Amy, Matt and Gil had tears in their eyes and they watched the couple, fascinated.

“I love you to Jeff.” She said as she took the bit of paper.

“I wanted something special. Something that would make us always remember the first Christmas we spent together.”

“I will Jeff. Always and forever.” She said as he leaned down and kissed her softly.
