Chapter
4:
Club Fear…
“Come
on Laura, you’ve been in there for an hour now!”
Faith screamed through my closed bathroom door.
“Can’t
a girl have time to take a shower?” I
asked while putting on my robe and toweling off my hair.
“No,”
she said in a smart-ass tone. I
opened the door to see Faith standing impatiently, looking right at me.
She looked awesome. She had
on a light blue, sparkly tank top on that showed a little of her midriff and
accented her eyes. I looked further
down and she had on Khaki jeans with 3 inch heeled black boots.
She had her hair up in a messy bun.
“Damn
chica, you look fabulous!” I said
while walking past her and opening my closet to see what to wear.
“Hmm…” I thought to myself.
“I
have a great outfit for you to wear tonight!”
Faith interrupted.
“Uh
oh,” I said out loud. She went to
her room and came back with hip hugging black pants and a tight purple
sleeveless shirt that showed off my midriff.
“No way,” I said while walking out of the bathroom and put my hand up
to stop her from walking towards me.
“Yes
way.” She said with a little
gleam in her eyes. “You can wear
your precious black boots with this too.”
She said Matter-of-factly.
“Fine.”
I said while applying some light make-up and spraying to vanilla perfume
on.
“Good,
now let’s go!” She said half
way out the back door. “All right
already Faith!” I yelled, taking
my sweet time to get to the car.
“Go
any slower and you’ll be walking backwards,” she said getting her ID ready
and walking towards the line for the club.
“Damn
Lines,” I muttered to myself and going behind Faith and pulling out my own ID.
We were finally in the club and I was already getting a headache from the
loud music. Faith and I waltzed over towards the bar and ordered some
drinks.
“Lime
Margarita please,” Faith ordered.
I
thought a moment…”Umm, gimme a Sprite please.”
“Don’t
look at me like that,” Laughing lightly at Faith.
“What
the hell, a Sprite? Are you
high?” She asked while giving me
a weird look.
“I’ll
have a real one later.” I
answered. We found a table and put
our drinks and stuff down.
“Let’s
dance!” Faith yelled over the
loud music.
“Hell
no!” I yelled back.
“It’s
my birthday so you have to,” she said in a singsong voice.
“Fine.”
I said annoyed.
After
about two hours of dancing, or two hours of hell, we came back to our table.
I plopped down in the booth, exhausted, while Faith sat down across from
me, panting a little from dancing.
“Had
enough yet?” I joked. She
answered back with an “Are you nuts?” look, then laughed and took a long sip
of her margarita. That’s just
about when I saw him. He was with a
group of handsome guys over near the bar, across from the dance floor. He had definitely caught my eye.
He had long beautiful dark, curly hair, and I was instantly attracted to
him. He was laughing it up with a
guy that was a little bit shorter than he was, and had different color hair.
The dark haired man was too far away for me to see his eyes.
I guess I must’ve been staring because I was snapped back into reality
by Faith.
“See
something you like?” She
asked sarcastically. Before I
turned my head to say something to her, he looked at me, dead in the eyes.
I turned away from the gorgeous man and said, “Yeah, gotta problem with
it?”
“I
would, but you can probably kick my ass, so no, I don’t.” She said while
giving a light laugh. She then
turned her head to exactly where I was looking and said, “Damn!”
“Close
your mouth chica.” I said half
joking. I looked back into the dark
man’s direction again and admired him a little more.
“My
God he’s hot,” Faith said, “But what’s up with the hair? Is he trying to make a statement or something?”
She joked. I turned my
attention back to her and she looked at me again.
“Maybe
he’s gay?” I started laughing
at the face she made.
“Not
funny Laura!” She exclaimed.
“Go
over, talk to him, then ask about the hair!”
I said still laughing, but serious.
I took a sip of my sprite.
“Well,
miss smarty-pants, why don’t you go talk to the guy you’ve been gawking over
for the past half hour, hmmm?” Faith
replied giving me another smile. I
nearly choked when she said that. How
the heck did she know that I wanted him? Duh
Laura, you were staring. And stop
talking to yourself!
“Maybe
because I wanted to relax a bit,” I said, pleased at my answer.
“Bullshit!”
Faith yelled happy while getting up. “Let’s
dance!” She said, grabbing my
hand and pulling me on to the dance floor.
An hour later and too much dancing, I screamed to Faith over the blasting
music, “I can’t take this anymore! I
so need a real drink.”
“Okay,
you know where I’ll be!” She
replied continuing to dance. I
walked across the dance floor and made my way over to the bar. That handsome dark haired man was only a few feet away from
me. He looked over in my direction
and we locked eyes for a few seconds. It
felt like an eternity until that damn guy with the colored hair came along.
“Matt!”
He yelled to the dark haired man. He
turned his attention away from me and turned it to the shorter of the two.
“What
Jeff?” So his name was Matt.
Well, hello Matt, I thought to myself while chuckling a little.
The bartender had brought me out of my thoughts.
“Can I help you?” he asked.
“Uh,
Strawberry Margarita please.” I answered.
“Fuck,” I mumbled under my breath.
“Damn headache’s coming back,” I said in a whisper while massaging
my temples with my fingertips and awaited my drink. “Music’s too damn loud,” I said a little louder.
“What
was that?” A man with a southern drawl asked from behind me.
I nearly jumped 10 feet again.
“Holy
shit, you scared me half to death!” I said turning around, staring straight
into beautiful brown eyes. Oh my
lord, it’s him…
“I’m
sorry miss, didn’t mean to scare you.”
He said, his southern accent shining through.
I could listen to him talk all night…I realized I was staring and said,
“Don’t worry about it,” I said while giving him a sweet innocent smile.
“So,
what did you say?” he asked politely, awaiting my answer. “That the music was too loud for the people with
excruciating headaches to handle.” I finished, trying to recall what I said
earlier.
“Yeah,
I agree. By the way, my names Matt,
Matt Hardy.” He said proudly.
“Well,
it’s nice to meet you Matt. My
names Laura.” I said trying to sound just as proud.
“Thanks,
nice to meet you too, Laura,” he smiled looking into my eyes.
“Matt,
man, what are you doing? I thought
you were coming back to the table.” The
man Matt had called Jeff earlier said.
“Oh,
hey Jeff, I was just getting another drink, then I met this beautiful lady
here.” He said looking from Jeff
to me. It hit me…Did he just call
me beautiful?
“Bro,
you’re so freaking rude. My names
Jeff, his brother.” He said
slapping Matt on the back while finishing his sentence.
He stuck out his hand to me, and I just looked at it.
“Laura,”
I said nodding to him and not taking his hand.
Just then, Faith came up to me and tapped me on the shoulder, “You
gonna be polite or not?” She
asked sarcastically.
“My
bad, Matt, Jeff, this is Faith.” I
said looking towards her, “Faith, this is Matt,” I said pointing to the dark
haired man, “And this is his brother Jeff.”
I finished nodding towards the colored haired man. She shook hands with Matt and then Jeff.
Jeff took her hand and put it to his lips and kissed it tenderly.
She
smiled, “Wanna dance?” She asked bluntly.
“Hell yeah,” he said while leading her to the dance floor.
“Well,
that was scary,” I said talking about the exchange between the two people.
“That’s my brother for ya,” He laughed.
I looked at him a weird and said, “Ya, whatever you say.
Look, it was nice meeting you Matt, but I have a huge headache and I’m
gonna go sit down.” I began to
leave until I felt someone touch my arm. I
tensed, spun around, and pulled away to see Matt looking right at me.
“Yeah?” I asked.
“Could
I, maybe, call you something?” He
asked with hope shining through his beautiful brown eyes.
“No.”
I said, straight to the point. I
then started to feel a little guilty. What
am I doing? I wanna get to know him!
So, to recover, with a smile I said, “But I can call you.”
“Here’s
my cell number, call me whenever and we can talk.” He said, handing me a napkin with his name and number on it.
“I’m not gonna be in town very long though,” he continued.
“Thanks,
okay, I’ll call you soon, nice talking to you.”
I said in a hurry, smiling at him and walking away.
Why did I have to be such a bitch to him?
He didn’t deserve that. Ugh,
stop arguing with yourself. Finally
reaching the table, I took a sip of my margarita I was holding and sat down.
I closed my eyes and waited for Faith to say she was ready to Leave.
I must’ve fallen asleep because the next thing I knew, Faith was
shaking me awake and saying she was ready to go.
“What
time is it?” I asked groggily and not wanting to get up.
“3:30
in the morning,” she said sleepily.
“All
right,” I said while gathering our things and reluctantly getting up.
“Let’s go,” I said heading to my car with Faith walking lazily
behind me. Just as I was about to
get into my car, I saw the group of men from earlier walk out.
They all went in separate cars, except for Matt and his brother Jeff.
They walked towards a beautiful silver car and then started arguing over
something. I got in my car, and
watched while putting the keys in the ignition and turning the car on.
All of a sudden, Matt put his hands up in defeat while throwing Jeff the
keys. Jeff caught them and
excitedly entered the car, with Matt walking towards the passenger side and
getting in.
“Ha,
they were fighting over who was gonna drive,” I mumbled while laughing a
little. “They are definitely
brothers.” I finished while
driving towards the exit and stopping. I
looked in my rear view mirror and there they were, behind us.
Jeff revved the engine and must’ve gotten yelled at by Matt, because
the next thing I saw was a hand go up and reach behind Jeff’s head and smacked
him. “Idiot,” I said while
putting my blinker on. I looked over towards Faith and saw that she had fallen
asleep with a little smirk on her face. “Goofy,” I called her, chuckling a little then saw that
the two men were turning the same way we were. The first clearing I sped away.
About half way home I saw the same car Jeff and Matt were driving behind
us again. “Must live near us,”
I said to myself. A few minutes
later, with the corner of my eye, I saw them turn off.
I let out the breath I didn’t know I was holding.
“What’s wrong with me? Why
am I so paranoid all of a sudden?” I
asked myself while continuing to drive along the wet roads of Jersey. I turned into our driveway, parked and took off my seat belt.
“Faith,
wake up chica. We’re home,” I
said while coaxing her to wake her lazy ass up.
“Ugh, I’m up, leave me alone a sec while I put myself back together.
I’ll lock your car up, just leave me be,” she said fast and kind of
cautiously. I looked at her funny
and said, “Fine, but please don’t forget to lock her up,” I finished
suspiciously while getting out of the car and heading into the house…
I
got dressed for bed and plopped down, sighing and thinking of anything and
everything. A few minutes passed
and Faith still wasn’t in the house. I
know because I didn’t here my car “beep.”
Unless she forgot to lock it, “Damn,” I muttered under my breath
while reluctantly getting up and walking to my door.
I heard the car “beep” and the front door shut, and I sighed a breath
of relief. “She remembered,
it’s a miracle!” I said softly
while going back to my bed and lying down.
I heard Faith walk slowly passed my door and then start giggling a
little.
“Goodnight
Faith!” I yelled, thinking
nothing of her giggling.
“Night
Birdi.” She said running too her
room and her door slamming with a loud boom.
What’s she up to? That was
the last thought in my mind before over due sleep overtook me…
