"Kendall sit up straight dear." Caroline Morgan patted
her only child on the back with her gloved hand,
"Don't slouch darling."
Kendall straightened herself up, leaning back against
the patio chair, "Gee, mother I'm bored."
"Mind your manners young lady." Her father squeezed
her hand gently.
Kendall sighed, rolling her eyes. She played with the
bottom of her silk dress, rubbing the material between
the pads of her fingers. This was another Sunday
gathering of all the socialites in Cameron. The
Morgans were new to the area and brunch had to be
hosted at their place.
The self made millionaire from New York . An empire
built from scratch between a father and a son team.
Kendall just didn't get it. It was only computer
software in her eyes. The empire was to be passed onto
her. The only child to Michael Morgan, Jr. and the
only grandchild to Michael Morgan, Sr.
Kendall looked across the table to their guests. Mr.
and Mrs. Ashton sat to her mothers left at the huge
glass patio table. Your typical money couple. It
showed on them from their perfect little shoes to the
well-groomed heads. Kendall laughed at how they
resembled The Howls from Gilliagans Island. To their
right and directly in front of her were Mr. and Mrs.
McSwain and their eerie son Robert. Then there was Mr.
and Mrs. Carpenter and their devil daughter, Riley.
Kendall heard about Riley and truly wanted to know
more.
She looked at Bobby again. He was cute. Short, sandy
brown hair and lovely brown eyes. He was always well
dressed and well mannered. He was pretty tall. At
least six-foot she thought. Although, he had a crooked
smile or was it his semi long nose that curved to the
side? She didn't know.
She smiled when their eyes met.
'No sparks there.' She thought. However, she knew her
parents were up to something involving him. They had a
plan. An arrangement so to speak. She'd accidentally
overheard her father on the speakerphone with Mr.
McSwain talking about dinner for the six of them.
She'd also heard the word date in it as well.
"You need to marry into the right family." He father
said when she questioned him about the dinner.
"Miss Kendall you have a phone call."
Kendalls thoughts were interrupted by their
housekeeper.
"Thanks Lucy." She started to rise up from the chair.
"Lucy tell whoever it is that Kendall will have to
call them back." Michael instructed.
"It's her grandfather. He said it was urgent." Lucy
smirked slightly at Kendall.
"Can't put granddaddy on hold." Kendall giggled as she
ran inside to the phone, "Granddaddy you're my hero."
"Hello my cupcake. I knew you were probably involved
in one of those stuffy tea brunches and if I know my
grandbaby, you were bored as hell." His voice was
music to her ears.
"You know it." She kicked her pumps off, curling her
legs under her on the couch, "It's brunch with The
Ashtons, The Carpenters and guess whom else?"
"The McSwains. Bobby making googly eyes at you from
across the table?"
She giggled like a little five year old girl instead
of an 18 year old college freshman, "Granddaddy you
are right again. Dads arranged a dinner between us
this week. It should be interesting. I thought
prearranged marriages died like a hundred years ago?
If I get married, it's gonna be for love not money or
empires."
"That's right cupcake. Stick to your guns. Have you
met a nice man yet?"
"And when would I have time for that? Mom and dad have
me booked the minute I get out of class. I come home
do my homework and then it's business dinners. I'm
sick of it. Gramps, I need a life."
The elder man chuckled, "Cupcake make a life for
yourself. Don't you have friends yet? It's been four
months. Start making your own plans. Then tell your
father to stuff it!"
"Granddaddy!" she covered her mouth to hold in her
laughter, "Couldn't you just see daddy's face if I
said that?"
"Oh I'd love to. Wait until I come down next week then
we'll do it together. I better let you go."
Kendall sighed sadly into the phone.
"Seven more days cupcake. I'll be there before you
know it."
"I miss you and Grammy so much. I hate it here." She
twirled a stray piece of hair that slipped out of her
bun.
"Chin up my dear. I'll be there soon. I love you."
"I love you too. Give Grammy my love. Talk to you
soon." She clicked off the phone, staring out the
window, "I better make this life change exciting or
I'm going to go crazy."

"Jeff we're gonna be late!" Matt yelled to his baby
brother.
Jeff Hardy wiped the sweat off his forehead with his
forearm. He was covered in grease from head to toe
from his motorcycle. He heard his brother yell to him.
"Yeah Matt I know. I know."
"Did you hear me?" Matt stood in the garage doorway,
scowling at his brother, "Jeff!"
"I heard you! I'm almost done!" he snapped back. Matt
was always nagging at him about his timing.
"What's wrong with you?"
Jeff threw his wrench into his tool box, "Sorry. I'm
hot and I'm tired."
"You can't get her out of your head, can you?"
Jeff glared at him, "Who?"
"The sweet thing you saw in town two days ago." Matt
smirked as Jeff shook his head.
"Maybe. She was sweet wasn't she?" Jeff smiled while
thinking about her, "But she's way beyond me."
"Please. No girl is beyond a Hardy. Even sweet Kendall
Morgan. Besides how would you know? You drove by her
in your car. She didn't even see you. All you know is
her name."
"The name says it all man. It's Sunday and she's
probably at one of those fancy brunches, sipping tea
with all the other Big Shits of Cameron. Me, middle
class Jeff Hardy fixing my piece of shit bike while
getting yelled at by my brother and going to my match.
Two different worlds Matthew my boy." Jeff wiped off
his hands on a cloth, tossing it at Matt.
Matt ducked from the cloth, "Dick. So because of her,
your life isn't good enough now? Jesus Jeff she's just
a chick."
Jeff sighed, "Yeah but she's some chick." He wiggled
his eyebrows as he left the garage.
