Chapter 16
Jeff parked in front of the building. It was very easy
to find per her instructions. He tapped the roof of
his car as his dad pulled in behind him.
"Dad why did we have to take all three vehicles?"
"Because you're brother already left and Mike and I
are stopping for dinner. Not to mention I'm sure you
and Kendall would want to be alone. You've had quite a
first week." He looked up at the building. Tell me she
doesn't live on the top floor."
"Close. The third." He checked his fly on his jeans.
He was in such a rush to get to her; he hurried home,
through his shower and getting dressed. He realized
halfway down the road that he had forgot his gear bag
and had to go all the way back.
Gilbert followed his son up the stairs like a trooper.
He knew he'd be panting once he got to the top, "Hold
on Jeff. Let me catch my breath. These stairs are
awful."
Jeff patted his shoulder, "You gonna make it?"
"Shut up smart ass and knock on the door."
Jeff laughed, knocking at the door. He heard her
footsteps then her voice yell something to somebody.
The door slid open slowly. Jeff shook his head as she
looked as if she was pulling with all she had.
"Hi guys. God this door is heavy. Come on in." she
kissed Gilberts' cheek as he went by her. She felt a
tingle throughout her body as Jeff placed his hand on
her lower back.
"Yeah like I'm going to be able to concentrate during
my match with you in that shirt." He kissed her
tenderly, pulling back when he heard her grandfather.
"Gilbert. Jeffrey. How are you?"
Kendalls' mouth dropped open. "Gramps I don't think
I've ever seen you in jeans."
"You look surprised. Close your mouth cupcake."
She pressed her lips together giving him a glare.
"So Gilbert where are we having dinner?"
"Well there is this nice diner just a few miles from
the bar where the show is. We'll stop there."
She looked to Jeff for answers, "What did I miss?"
"Dad brought his own car so they could go out to eat.
In other words, to leave us alone in my car." Jeff
couldn't help but caress the warm skin on her back.
She was so soft.
"Okay then." She grabbed her keys and backpack, "Let's
go! It's four o'clock." She turned back to see all
three men still standing there, "Chop, chop!"
"Yes ma'am." Her granddaddy grabbed his coat,
following Gilbert out the door. Jeff lagged behind
waiting for her.
"Do I get a tour when I drop you off?"
She ran her hand up into his hair, "You can if you're
not too tired."
"And if I'm too tired?" he closed his eyes, sighing as
she ran her fingers through.
"Then you can just go to sleep. Let's go before you're
late." She pushed him out the door, this time making
him help her close it.

They talked about everything and nothing important on
the whole two hour trip. They discussed his matches,
how small the joint was, if she was hungry and wanted
to stop to eat and anything else.
Kendall was content just to concentrate on the two of
them and their new rapidly developing relationship
instead of what her father was going to do next. She
leaned her head back on the seat, staring at him as he
drove.
His hair was down today, no bandana or ponytail. The
stern concentrating look on his face as he looked
ahead to the road. He tapped his long, thin fingers on
his thigh to the Pearl Jam song playing on the radio.
Kendall was crazy about him. Head over heels crazy for
him already. She couldn't imagine her life without him
anymore. The thought of never seeing him again made it
hard to breathe. He glanced over at her and smiled.
Jeff reached for her hand, entwining their fingers
together, drawing it to his mouth and kissing it.
"You ok?" he spoke quietly to her.
"Yeah I'm fine." She leaned across, closing the gap
between to kiss his cheek, "Just fine."
She was in love.
