The First Christmas.
“Does my bum look big in this?” Leah asked Lindsay as she stood in front of the mirror.
“No. I’ve told you that five times already.”
“I know but…you know…”
“Yeh I guess I do.” Lindsay said laughing at the younger redhead.
“Do you think those guys we saw at the bar the other night are going to be there?”
“I hope they are. Those asses!!”
“I know. It made moving to America worth it.”
“Do you remember the guy with the curly black hair and the really nice ass?”
“How long was his hair?”
“Shoulder length.”
“The guy with the other guy that had blue hair?”
“No. The other one. Didn’t Shannon and Shane say his name was Chuck?”
“Oh him. Chuck Palumbo. You like him?”
“Oh yes!” Lindsay said with an evil grin.
“You ready?”
“Yep lets go.”

As they got into the car and Lindsay drove the five minutes across town until they found the house that the address on the bit of paper belonged to. They stepped out of the car and headed up the steps. The door was open so they went in. The music was blaring out of the stereo and the room was full of people all dancing along with the beat. As the reached the entrance to the room Leah slid her jacket of and she felt it being taken from her hands.
“Glad you could make.” A soft voice said from behind her. Leah turned around.
“Shannon, hey. We wouldn’t have missed it.” Leah and Lindsay had met Shannon at a bar a few days before and he invited them to his party.
“A chance to get to know the people?”
“Something like that.” Leah said smiling as she watched Shannon place her and Lindsay’s coats in a room. He came back to them.
“How about a drink?”
“Sure.” Both redheads said. Shannon laughed slightly.
“I’ll introduce you to some of my friends. I think you’ll like them. They’re laid back and very easy to get on with. But they haven’t turned up yet though.” He said a he began to lead them through the crowd of people.
Leah stood alone by the counter in the kitchen. Lindsay had found Chuck and she had spent an hour drooling over him before they had headed out into the back garden. Leah stared down into her empty punch glass and sighed.
“Can I fill that up for you?” Shannon asked as he came into the kitchen.
“No thanks. I think I’m going to go.”
“Why?”
“Because I don’t know anyone here and Lindsay’s gone off with someone.”
“Well you know those friends I told you about?”
“Yeh.” Leah said as she placed her glass down on the counter behind her.
“Well the just turned up so why don’t you come and meet them?”
“I could but I really think I’m gunna go. Nothing to do with you or anything but I’m not really in the mood for a party.”
“Why not? What’s up?”
“Well I miss home.”
“Home as in England?”
“Yeh. When I left it was for my job because I could only get a placement over here.”
“What do you do?”
“I’m a pilot.”
“Cool. Airliners and stuff?”
“Eventually I hope. But right know I’m training.”
“And Lindsay?”
“She is only staying with me until tomorrow until her house down south gets sorted out. So then I’ll permanently be alone.”
“You two close friends then?”
“Yeh. I’ve known her since like forever.” Leah said with a sigh.
“Stay right here. I’ll be right back.”
“Ok.” Leah said as she watched him disappear into the living room. Leah was only alone for a minute when Shannon came back in followed by three guys and a girl.
“Guys this is my new friend Leah. She just moved to Cameron.”
“Hey Leah I’m Matt.” A guy with dark hair said as he outstretched his hand and Leah shook it.
“Nice to meet you.” She replied.
“Shane.” Another of the guys said as she shook his hand.
“I’m Jeff.” The blue haired man said and Leah again shook hands.
“And I’m Amy.” She said as she again put her hand out for Leah to shake.
“It’s nice to meet you all.”
“You too.” Matt replied. “I’m gunna get a drink anyone else want one?” All of them but Leah nodded. “You don’t want one?”
“No thanks. I’m now going to go.”
“You can’t go!” Shannon said sulking.
“And you have to keep me sane with all these guys.” Amy said with a warm friendly smile.
“And I need someone to dance with.” Jeff said as he looked down at the small red head.
“I’m not really in the mood for a party. I just wanna go home and….”
“And sulk.” Shannon finished.
“No sleep.” Leah corrected him.
“No you miss home and you wanna go back to your new home and get all upset and we won’t let you do that.”
“No we won’t.” Shane said as he nudged her in the side. “I’m gunna help Matt with the drinks.” He said as he turned and left the room.
“Please stay Leah. I hate people being miserable.” Shannon said as he gave her a little smile until she smiled back.
Jeff saw the smile and didn’t wait for an answer. “Great a new dancing partner!” he said as he took Leah’s arm and daggered her to the dance floor. Leah tried to stop him but before she knew what was happening she was in the middle of the dance floor watching Jeff dance. He saw her looking at her and he stopped. “You have to move to dance you know.” He joked.
“I’m not in the mood.”
“You soon will be.” He said as he placed his hands on her sides and began to move her to the music. She laughed at his efforts and she began to dance for herself. He smiled at his accomplishment and carried on with his own dancing.back to Leah
