Chapter 3
Kaci Copeland looked at her brother expectantly. Sighing loudly
as he once again kissed Krissy goodbye. Like he had been doing for the last ten
minutes. Finally as the McMahon left the locker room, he turned to her, frowning
at the look on her face.
"What?" She stared at him a long moment, before shaking her head and
glaring.
"What do you mean what? Where is he?" Adam frowned slightly, looking
at her like she was crazy.
"Where is who? There are many," He stopped, the conversation he'd had
with Kaci on their way here suddenly coming back to him. "You mean
Jeff?" She nodded urgently, the need to see him so strong it hurt.
"He's probably in his locker room, but you can't go there." She
frowned.
"Why not?" Adam chuckled lightly.
"In case he's getting changed or something, and you can't just wonder into
people's dressing rooms." Kaci glared harder, causing Adam to frown.
"Adam Copeland, I am twenty-three years old, I've seen a man naked believe
it or not." Adam glared at her.
"Not something a big brother wants to hear Kaci." She giggled, waving
at him as she opened the door, he caught her arm. "Where are you going? You
not going to his locker room Kaci Copeland, I wont let you." She giggled
again, playfully shoving Adam away from her.
"I'm not Adam, I'm leaving yours so you can do whatever you have to do,
I'll be back in maybe a half hour, I'm just gonna wonder and see if I can find
Jay, haven't seen him in a while." Adam nodded, waving at her as she left
the room. Once out in the hallway, Kaci felt a little overwhelmed at the noise
and general atmosphere. She'd never been backstage at an event before, she
hadn't realised the hard work that went into making the show as good as it was.
Wondering down the hallway, she noticed a door with 'Christian' written on it,
smiling to herself she knocked. Actually looking forward to seeing Jay again
after such a long time. When the door opened however, it wasn't Jay she came
face to face with.
"Uh, I'm sorry, I thought this was Jay's locker room." The woman
smiled at her.
"It is, but he's not here." Kaci returned the smile.
"Okay, you know where I can find him? It's just I haven't seen him in a
long time, be nice to say hello," she stopped a minute, then offered her
hand. "I'm Kaci Copeland." The woman's smile broadened.
"Oh, Adam's sister! I'd never have known, you look nothing alike, I've
heard alot about you. I'm Tia." She shook Kaci's hand. "And I expect
you can find Jay down in the ring warming up."
"Thanks Tia, maybe we'll speak soon. Bye." Smiling she walked away,
then realised she had no idea where exactly the ring was or how in the hell she
could get there. Stopping and turning in a circle, she felt completely lost. She
tapped someone on the shoulder.
"Excuse me? Do you know what way I go to get to the ring?" The woman
turned, smiling and pointing to the left.
"That way, turn down there, then out through the curtains you see, but
you'll have to go down a few steps, that'll take you out to the higher
tier." She thanked the woman and took off in that direction, a relieved
sigh escaping her lips when she came through the curtain and found herself in
the huge arena. Squinting, she could see two small figures in the ring,
grudgingly she walked down the steps. When she was finally about eight rows from
the front, she stopped, watching Jay and the rainbow headed guy in the ring
'warm up'. After maybe ten minutes, he finally spotting her. His jaw dropping as
he stood in the middle of the ring.
"Kaci!" He grinned at her. "Come here!!" The guy with the
multi coloured hair froze, with his back to her and Kaci frowned slightly before
walking towards the ring, climbing up on the apron and threw the ropes into
Jay's arms. Once they'd hugged, he put her at arms length, looking her over.
"Damn, you've grown up, how ya been?" She blushed at his words.
"Good, thanks, how have you been? Gonna introduce me to your fri..."
The words froze on her lips as she turned and came face to face with Jeff Hardy.
Jay frowned as the silence carried on for a few minutes, looking between the two
before silently taking his leave. Walking up the ramp and into the backstage
area, confusion evident on his face. Shaking it off, he knocked on Adam's locker
room door, walking in before waiting for an answer.
"Adam, I just saw your sister, thanks for telling me she was coming by the
way, it was nice to see her, anyway, she came down to the ring when we were
warming up, was fine, said hello and everything, then she turned and saw Jeff
Hardy," he frowned again. "Now their both in the ring and in complete
silence just staring at each other..." Jay finally looked up, a little
confused by the look on Adam's face. Slowly and deliberately he asked. "Is
there something I should know?"

Jeff stared, he could do nothing but stare. His mouth hanging open again. He
hadn't expected to have to see her. He hadn't expected to be this close, and
most of all, he hadn't expected these feelings. Her face mirrored his own. Her
mouth was open in a silent O as she looked at him, taking in his appearance as
he took in hers. Then, finally, he looked into her eyes. And the feelings he
felt all those years ago came rushing back to him. Slowly, she raised her hand,
idly stroking his hair. Her voice was barely as whisper as she spoke.
"I like what you've done with it, looks nice." He nodded, reaching up
and covering her hand with his own.
"You, too. I mean, your hair, looks good that length." She smiled, a
smile that failed to reach the sadness in her eyes.
"I missed you, so much. No relationship I had since then even resembled
what I felt, still do feel for you. You touched my heart in a way no other
possibly could." He swallowed, taking a deep breath before speaking.
"I missed you, too. For a long time, I lived in regret for what I did, what
I gave up. What I lost. Then I realised I had feelings for another. Love that's
so strong it's unbearable." He watched as her bottom lip trembled, then on
impulse took her in his arms. "But that love I feel, it's 2 different kind
of loves meshed together. As much as I love them, I'm no longer in love with
them. I could never love someone the way I do love them, though." He rested
his chin on her head, hoping she didn't notice the them instead of her, or him,
in his case. He heard her sniff and pushed her to arms length, bringing his hand
up and wiping away the single tear that fell. Then slowly, without thinking, he
brought his lips to hers, wrapping his arms around her as she responded, the
kiss quickly becoming passionate.

Matt Hardy made his way to the ring, preparing to warm up for his match. As he
walked down the ramp, he noticed two people in the ring, as he got closer, he
felt his heart break as he watched his brother kissing Kaci Copeland. Then, as
they pulled away, the look on Jeff's face told him all he needed to know. Jeff
was happy, content, and as much as they loved each other, what he and Jeff had
wasn't normal, wasn't right. What he saw in the ring was right. Walking away,
Matt Hardy realised he had to give him up. He had to move on and get away from
Jeff. His choice made, he walked out of the arena, and out of Jeff's life.
Leaving his own life and starting a new one, away from the people he knew and
loved.

Taking a deep breath, Matt Hardy knocked the door, hoping against hope, Jeff
still lived in this house. Silently, he braced himself, not knowing what the
expect after he'd been gone ten years. As Jeff opened the door, Matt
smiled, his smile turning into a grin as Jeff grinned himself. Without warning,
Jeff hugged Matt tightly, and on impulse Matt brought his lips to Jeff's,
sharing his last sweet kiss with his younger brother....

Suddenly Jeff Hardy screamed. Jumping up in bed and panting. Beside him, a light
came on and he turned, looking at his brother with fear laden eyes. Matt sat up,
pulling Jeff into his arms and stroking his head lightly.
"Jeff? What is it?" Jeff panted, slowly, calming himself down.
"It's just, I had the weirdest dream. Everything that happened up until
today was exactly the same, but then, towards the end, Kaci came back. And you
left, because you thought I was happy with her. It was exactly the same as
today, when I was sat on the crates and I thought I saw her, but it really was
her, dayum, Matt, it was so weird." Matt kissed his head in a soothing
manner. Lightly stroking his face.
"Jeff, baby, you know it can't of been her. Maybe it was someone else you
saw. Someone who looks like her. Jeff, it's been seven years now, don't you
think this should be getting better?" Jeff nodded slightly, burrowing his
face in Matt's chest.
"Adam's not got any better." Matt sighed, they'd had this conversation
so many times.
"Jeff, Adam wouldn't, it was his sister. I know you loved her, I know you
still do, but Jeff, you have this life now. We have our life. And even Adam's
told you to get on with your life after all this time. She would want you,
too." Jeff nodded, kissing Matt's nipple as he sunk further into bed. Ever
so softly, he said the words that haunted him every night.
"But, it's my fault she died." Feeling the tears on the back of his
eye lids, he carried on. "I didn't want her to leave, and when I followed
her into the house when she was getting her stuff to leave with Adam. I told her
that, but I could see no other alternative. Then, she ran out of the house, I
went after her, and that's when the car hit her, it's my fault Matt, my fault.
If I had just stayed in the yard, if I hadn't of followed her in, If I
hadn't..." Matt covered Jeff's mouth with his own. Stopping Jeff's guilt
trip, having heard it every night for the past two weeks. After five years, Jeff
suddenly started getting nightmares again. Matt didn't know how to stop them. As
he pulled away, Jeff smiled and snuggled further into his chest. His eyes
closing and breath evening within a few minutes. Matt sighed, turning off the
light and holding Jeff tighter as he, too, fell asleep.
