Chapter 2
Jeff Hardy watched the smiling girl walk into his house. Her long black hair
swaying as she walked. She looked nothing like Adam, except for her mouth. Her
mouth resembled his, but her jet black hair and bright blue eyes were the total
opposite of Adam's wavy blonde hair and hazel eyes. He sighed, and her temper
wasn't anything like Adam's either. Adam was mellow, Kaci... she just seemed to
be pissed alot. Shaking his head he walked up to his house, leaving his brother
watching Adam and Jay in the ring. As he walked in his house, Jeff looked around
the kitchen for Kaci, frowning slightly when she wasn't there. He looked in
living room, moving into the dining room and looking in the down stairs
bathroom. She wasn't there either. His frown deepening, he walked upstairs, his
eyes widening a little when he saw his bedroom door open. Quickly, he ran in
there, stopping short and catching his breath when he saw her asleep on his bed.
She looked so... beautiful. He sat beside her, stroking her hair as she slept.
Shaking his head a few minutes later, what the hell was he *doing*? This was
Adam's sister, his friends little sister. He couldn't fall for her, Adam would
kill him! Regretfully, he stood up, leaning down and kissing her forehead before
walking away, joining the others in the yard.

Jeff Hardy had to use his hand to shut his mouth. His jaw nearly hitting the
floor when he saw her walk in. Seven years. The last time he'd seen her had been
seven years ago. In his back yard. She looked basically the same now, obviously
older, her hair was shorter, just reaching her collarbones, but her eyes still
had that bright spark in them. The one thing that wasn't there, that had been
the last time he'd seen her was the tears, her face was dry, last time he'd
spoke to her, she had been crying. He remembered that day like it had been only
yesterday.
Kaci stood from the porch, pulling her hand out of his and walking away. He
followed her. "Kaci, please, you have to understand." She turned to
him, he felt like he had been slapped when he saw the tears streaming down her
face.
"Understand what Jeff? That I'm nothing but a fling, that these three
months with you have been nothing? That I'm not worth it? I'm not worth being
with if it means my brother may be mad for a few days? What Jeff? Please, tell
me." He felt his heart break as her voice broke on his name. He did love
her, so much. The three months she had stayed with him had been the best three
months of his life. But now she and Adam had to go home. And he probably
wouldn't see her much anymore. Long distance things never worked out.
"Kaci, please. You know you mean more to me then that. You know you do. I
love you. But how can we be together when your in a different country? Canada's
a long way from here. It'll never work out." He reached out and touched her
arm, the hurt filling him when she pulled away like she'd been burnt.
"That's why I would stay here with you, Jeff. But, you don't want that,
your to scared of my brother and how he would react. You'd rather keep the peace
than keep your happiness." He felt the tears sting the back of his eyes.
She was right, as much as he loved her, she couldn't stay here with him. Adam
wouldn't like it, at all. And he's not to sure how Matt and his father would
react either.
"Adam isn't the only factor in this equation Kaci. My father owns this
house. My brother lives here, too. I'm only seventeen, I can't just let someone
move in.... I can't." She moved forward, placing a light kiss on his lips
before speaking, quietly asking him.
"So your just gonna let go? Continue to live your life like I never
existed? I honestly thought you cared, I guess I was wrong." She turned her
back to him then, walking briskly back to the house.
"You think this isn't hurting me?" She turned back to him, her eyes
conveying the hurt she felt.
"I love you Jeff, I always will. But, if you can let go of love this
easily, you never loved me like I did you. So no, I don't think this isn't
hurting you, but I do think it's hurting me more. Bye Jeff, good luck in
life." Then she left.
Jeff squeezed his eyes shut at the memory, swallowing hard and fighting the
stinging of tears on his eyelids. He had loved her, so very much. He still did
love her. He always would. He jumped off the crates at the arena and quickly
made his way to his dressing room before she could see him. Trying to spare her
the hurt he knew she'd feel if she saw him. Closing the door, he leant back
against it, closing his eyes and evening his breathing.
"Jeff? What's wrong?" He opened his eyes and looked at Matt. His
brother.... his lover. Slowly, he spoke, trying not to let the sudden hurt he
felt show.
"Kaci Copeland..." He watched Matt's eyes widen. "She just walked
in with Adam and Krissy." Matt walked forward, taking Jeff in his arms and
kissing his head.
"Aww, Jeff, I'm sorry," he cooed. "Do... do you still have
feelings for her?" Matt asked him, feeling a little jealousy. He remembered
Adam's sister, from when she came to stay. The summer he'd realised he loved his
brother in a way that wasn't natural. He'd kept his distance from Jeff then,
feeling wrong, dirty. He hadn't noticed the love build between his brother and
Kaci. Didn't even know about it until five years ago, the day he'd told Jeff how
he felt.
Matt watched as his brother kissed his date goodbye. Feeling the all familiar
hurt and jealousy build up in him. As Jeff came back through the door, Matt
looked away, not wanting Jeff to see the hurt he felt.
"Matt?" Jeff walked over to him tentatively, a little surprised Matt
had been watching him, but feeling that little bit of happiness that was
becoming all to familiar. Since the day Kaci had walked out of his life, Jeff
had started to develop feelings for his brother that were wrong. He was supposed
to love him as a brother, not be in love with him. Shaking the thoughts away, he
asked again. "Matt?" Matt looked up, causing Jeff to reel back
slightly from the look in his deep brown eyes.
"Why do you do it Jeff? Why do you bring date after date home when I'm here
all the time... when... when you could have me?" Jeff's eyes widened, and
Matt, realising what he'd said left the room quickly, feeling embarrassed and
stupid, he ran into his room, closing the door with a thud. Jeff stood there a
moment, quietly digesting what he'd just heard before going after Matt, not even
knocking the door as he walked in. When Matt turned to him, he grabbed his face,
kissing him hard. Only pulling away when he needed to breath. Matt stared at
him, eyes wide, before pulling his little brother back to him, kissing him with
a passion he didn't know he felt. When he pulled away, his eyes were wide with
wonderment.
"J... Jeff?" Jeff smiled at him, for the first time since Kaci had
walked away from him, he felt happy, he felt safe, he felt..... right.
"Matt." He said his name, his voice filled with love and wonder.
"How.... how long have you felt that way?" Matt looked into his
brother's eyes. Still shocked, yet blissfully happy at the turn of events.
"About... maybe, two years. Since the beginning of the summer Adam and his
sister stayed." He watched Jeff's face darken and stepped forward again,
placing his hand gingerly on Jeff's shoulder. "Jeff? What is it?" Jeff
shook his head, looking up at his brother.
"Just... that summer, god Matt, I was so happy, then, in the space of a
day, it all disappeared. When Kaci walked away from me, I hurt so bad. And even
though you didn't know why, you were there for me. You made me feel loved.
That's when I began to fall in love with you." Matt felt his jaw drop...
Kaci... Adam's sister? Walked away from Jeff?
"You... you were with Kaci?" Jeff nodded, and Matt realised it all
fell into place. Jeff hadn't been around much all summer, apart from when they
trained, and now, when he thought about it, Matt realised Kaci hadn't either.
Feeling his brothers hurt, he held him tightly, showing him comfort, and trying
to show Jeff how he felt.
Shaking himself, Matt came back to now. They'd been lovers ever since.
Focusing his eyes on Jeff, he asked again. "Do you still have feelings for
her?" Jeff nodded slowly, and Matt felt his heart break a little. "You
still love her?" Jeff looked up, the answer evident in his eyes.
"I'll always love her. Just not the way I love you. I don't think I could
ever love anyone the way I love you." Matt smiled, tightening his
arms round Jeff, his doubts subsiding slightly. A few minutes later, Jeff roused
himself. Pulling away slightly and smiling at Matt. The hurt he felt having
disappeared. "I've got to go and warm up a little. I'll see you before the
match." He leaned up and kissed Matt lightly, before opening the door and
walking out, quickly making his way to the ring to warm up.
