Chapter 18

"Jami, where are you?  This isn't cute.  I'm worried about you.  Everyone else is worried about you.  Will you please call, or answer your phone, or something?"  Jeff pleaded as he reached Jami's voice mail, yet again.  He hung up the phone with a sigh.  "Still no answer?"  Traci asked.  "No, she refuses to answer her cell.  This is driving me crazy!  Why won't she at least let us know she's okay?"  Jeff said.  He ran his hands through his tonseled hair.

"Jeff, she'll let us know she's okay soon.  I'm sure she is okay.  She might be crazy, but she's not stupid."  Traci lightly joked.  Jeff glared at her, standing to leave the room.  Traci grabbed his arm and forced him to look at her.  "Jeff, I was only half kidding.  Jami isn't stupid.  She'll be okay.  She's just scared right now so she's running.  That's the only way she knows how to deal.  Give her time."  Traci quietly urged.

Jeff nodded and left the room.  Jami hadn't even been gone five hours yet and Jeff was ready to call the national guard.  He had caught the first flight out after his fight with jami.  He'd burst into the house a little over an hour ago, waking Traci up.  Traci hoped he was finally going to try to get some sleep.  Traci knew her sister.  Jami would be back.  And Jeff was going to need all his energy when she did return.
***
Jami slowly looked around.  SHe honestly had no clue where she was.  SHe had just started driving in one direction, and had ended up in some small town.  Now she needed sleep, if that were possible.  She found a small hotel and went inside.

The man behind the counter was half asleep, and Jami couldn't blame him.  It had to be near five a.m.  She asked him for a room, and didn't even blink when he told her checkout time was ten a.m. or she'd have to pay for another night.  She just told him she'd pay for the extra night.

He handed her a key and pointed her in the right direction.  As soon as she reached the room, she collapsed onto her bed in a dreamless sleep.
***
Lita nervously paced around the hotel room she shared with Tasha.  Finally Matt caught her hand and pulled her down next to him.  "Lita, stop worrying so much.  You know Jami from when she's done this before.  When y'all were younger.  You know she'll be okay."  "That's the problem Matt.  Thanks to my little accident, I don't remember!  All I know is that one of my best friends isn't exactly sane right now and she's missing.  Jeff, another of my best friends, is probably driving himself up a wall.  And I feel so helpless!"  Lita told him, frustration showing by the way she kept pulling on her red hair.  "Well, there's nothing we can do right now.  Jeff and Traci promised to call us the moment they hear anything.  So, please...relax and try to get some sleep."
***
"Tasha, if your not careful, your going to kill that stuffed animal."  Edge gently scolded her.  Tasha looked down at the small stuffed puppy a fan had given her that night.  She had been nervously playing with his eyes and nose, both were coming extremely close to popping off.  "I'm just worried.  Jami was pretty upset earlier when she called.  Plus, with what else has been going on with her...well, it just adds up to me being worried."  Tasha confided.  "Well, don't be.  Jami's a big girl.  She can take care of herself.  And there's no point freakin' out.  Jeff or Traci will call when they hear something.  Now, how about I walk you back to your room so you can get some sleep?"  Edge suggested and Tasha agree'd, feeling tired.
***
Matt and Edge stood outside the girls room, where they had just left.  They walked to the room they shared, talking along the way.  "So, what do you make of this Jami disappearance act?"  Matt asked.  "Sounds like Jami had a temper tantrum or something.  Wants attention."  Edge truthfully admitted.  "I wondered that to at first.  But everyone else is freaking out, so maybe it's not that."  Matt thought outloud.  "Well, I wish she'd knock it off and let us know where she is so everyone stops worrying."  Edge muttered.
***
"Lita, are you asleep?"  Tasha whispered after the guys had left the room, shutting the door behind them.  "Still awake." Lita whispered back.  "Are you as worried about Jami as I am?"  Lita whispered after a moment.  "Yeah, I know she has run off before, but she's always let someone know where she was and that she was okay before two hours passed.  Do you think I'm over reacting?"  Tasha asked.  "No, I feel the same.  Plus, I just have the feeling that there are only going to be more problems to come."  Lita replied through the darkness.
