chapter 2

Jeff rolled over for what seemed the hundredth time that night. Finally he gave up all hope of sleeping and got up and got dressed. He pulled on his traditionally baggy black jeans and a hoodie. He went down the stairs of his house and went into the kitchen. He looked over to the clock. 2:56. He sighed before looking around and then outside the kitchen window to where he could see his car, the moonlight reflecting of the windscreen.

He walked from the kitchen to the living room. He saw his car keys and he grabbed them in one hand, as well as his wallet and his jacket they lay across the sofa in the other. He pulled it on as he turned the lights out and headed out the front door. He got into his Corvette and roared the engine into life. He backed from the driveway and down the street.

He went to the twenty-four hour garage on the edge of town; he pulled in and went into the shop. He grabbed two bunches of flowers and grabbed a bottle of wine from the shelf. He paid for them and left.

Leah rolled over onto her back before lifting her head form the pillow. She heard the noise again. Slowly she threw the covers of her and walked out of the bedroom, rubbing her sleepy eyes. The knocking at the door grew louder as she approached it. She turned on the outside light before she went into the kitchen and looked out the window to see her was there. She froze as she saw Jeff standing there. Slowly she walked back to the door and unlocked it. Shannon had locked it from the outside and put the key through the letterbox. She pulled the door open. Jeff’s eyes locked with hers.

“What are you doing here Jeff?”

“Can I come in?”

“Why Jeff? So we can argue more?”

“I don’t want to argue with you Leah, please just let me in.”

“Fine.” Leah said stepping aside and letting him past. She shut the door and followed him into the house.

“I got these for you.” He said handing her the flowers.

“Jeff, you shouldn’t have.”

“I wanted to.”

“I don’t mean it like that Jeff. You shouldn’t keep coming here, you should just leave me alone.”

Jeff thought about the wine that was in the bag in his hand, he decided to leave that until later because right now he was scared she would smash him over the head with it. “I’m not leaving you alone Leah. Please, just listen to me.”

“Jeff….”

“Please.” He begged, his eyes searching hers. She looked away and moved to the sofa where she sat down.

“Fine.”

“Thank you.” He said placing the bag down and sitting on the opposite end of the sofa. He sat sideways and looked at Leah who was sitting the same way. “I love you Leah. I have never stopped loving you. What you saw with Trish and me was Trish touching me, not me touching her. I pushed her away, but you had run off by then. By the time I got to my car you were gone and I didn’t know where to go and look for you, so I waited all night in the hotel room.”

“She told me you stayed with her.”

“I know she did, but she’s lying Lee, I would never ever do that to you. I don’t know how Trish got your number, I don’t know why she told you all those lies about me and her, and that’s what they are Leah, lies.”

“How can I believe you Jeff?” Leah asked standing up and walking away from him.

“Because it’s the truth, that’s why, and how, because we were so in love Leah. We were so happy together, that bitched spoiled everything, not me.”

“Jeff…. I don’t wanna talk about this anymore.” Leah said turning away from him and bowing her head, letting the tears run down her face. Jeff got to his feet and went to her. He stood behind her and put his hand on her shoulders. He lowered his head and kissed her neck softly. Leah moved away from Jeff. “NO!!!” She screamed as she ran into the kitchen.

Jeff sighed and looked at the clock. 3:20. This was going to be a long night.
