Chapter 5

Baby Jamie turned six months old when Chloe and Matt decided to go to the States so he could go back to work. One of Chloe’s best friends, Lee, was coming with them. She and Matt had been seeing each other for four months and they had decided that lee should go to the States and be a permanent part of Matt’s life. Chloe was the one who had to call Gil and Jeff to let them know.

“Hello.”

“Hi, it’s Chloe.”

“Hi, how are you?”

“I’m good. You?”

“Not too bad. What can I do for you?”

“Well I wanted to tell you that me and matt are coming back with the baby. We fly out tomorrow. I know it’s sudden but we can’t stay away any longer and you haven’t met your nephew yet.”

“Oh, well, I am dying to meet little Jamie.”

“Good. One of my mates Lee is coming with us. I hope you don’t mind.”

“No. the more the merrier.”

“Ok, well I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Yeh, ok, bye.”

“Bye.”

“Dad, Chloe and Matt are coming back tomorrow.”

“Really? Oh, I’m glad. Aren’t you?”

“No, not really.”

“Why not?”

“Oh come on dad, they’ve been over there for like six months, there gunna be all loved up and be the happy couple with their little baby.”

“You don’t know that.”

“What’s the chance of anything else?” he said as he turned and ran out of the room.

In his bedroom he took the picture of him and Chloe and placed it in the duffel bag he pulled out from under his bed. He pushed as many clothes in it as he could. He wiped away the tears that fell from his eyes as he thought about Matt and Chloe playing the happy couple. Matt being there at her side instead of him. He grabbed his wallet and phone and took the bag and ran from his room. He looked at his dad who sat in the kitchen watching a repeat of RAW. He took his car keys quietly from the counter and slid out the front door with out his dad seeing him.  

As the plane pulled into the gate, Chloe, Jamie, Matt and Lee waited to get of the plane. When they finally left the plane, Gil, only Gil, met them. Chloe’s heart sank as she searched for Jeff. Gil took baby Jamie into his arms as Matt and Lee led the five of them to baggage claim. “Gil, where’s Jeff?” Chloe asked as she walked beside him.

“I don’t know dear.”

“Did he come with you?”

“No.” he said as Chloe pulled him out of the rush. She told Matt they would meet him outside. Then she turned to Gil. “Clo. After you rang him last night he told me you and Matt would be all loved up and playing the ‘happy couple’. Then he went to his room and when I went to check on him he had gone.”

“What? Didn’t he come back?”
”No. Are you and Matt together?”

“NO! He is with Lee. That’s my friend who came with us. But why did he think we were? Oh, I know. Man I’m stupid!”

“What?”

“Well, I told him Lee was coming, but I never said that she was a girl and that she was dating Matt.”

“I see. Well that could explain it but I’m really worried about him.”

“I am too now. Come on lets get my bags and get out of here.” She said as she noticed people looking at them, as they knew who they both were.

Gil handed Jamie back to Chloe and helped her to pull her bags of the caracal. After he put the two suitcases, two buggies, a car seat and a baby carrier onto a trolley he led Chloe, Jamie, Matt and Lee out to the people carrier where the all got in. Lee fell asleep in the back and Chloe watched Jamie as he slept.

“Matt, when we get back to the house will you and Lee look after Jamie?”

“Sure, why?”

“Because me and Chloe need to do something.” Gil said as he turned of the road and down the drive to the Hardy mansion.     

“Dad, where are you two going?” Matt asked just before Chloe and Gil left.

“Look, I don’t want you to worry. But, Jeff ran of last night and I don’t know where. I know he’s a big boy and he could have gone to a friend for the night but I’m worried about him. He went all strange after he spoke to Chloe and he thinks you two are an item.”

“Are you going to look for him?”

“Yes we are.” Chloe said growing impatient with the questions.

“Then I want to come with you.”

“No, you stay here in case he shows up.”

“NO! I want to go with you.”

“Ok, Clo, do you want to stay here with Lee and Jamie?”

“Not really but I will.”

“Thanks.”

And with that Matt and Gil went out the door and took Gil’s people carrier. Chloe turned back to Lee who was holding Jamie. She put him down into baby carrier and walked to her friend who had tears in her eyes. She pulled the crying Chloe into her arms before pulling her over to the sofa and sitting her down. “What’s wrong?”

“Jeff.”

“Why?”

“Because he has gone because he thought me and Matt were together.”
”But your not.”

“I know that but he doesn’t.”
”Didn’t you tell him about me?”

“I did but I didn’t say your and Matt were together, I guess he thought you were a guy.”

“Hey come here.” She said as Chloe let out more tears. “It’ll be ok. He’ll turn up.”
”I hope so.”

“I thought you had got over him.”

“No, I never got over him.”

“But all these months you never talked about him.”

“I know because it hurts too much.”

“Why didn’t you call him?”

“Because he said that he couldn’t be with me if I had Matt’s baby.” She said as she fell to Lee’s shoulder once more.

“Why don’t you go and lay down. I’ll watch Jamie.”

“Ok.” She replied as she got to her feet and slowly walked up to her room. But as she was walking along the hall she saw Jeff’s bedroom door. She walked up to it and pushed it open. As she walked in she shut the door behind her. As she walked over to his bed she looked at the wall above the head of his bed. The pictures from her celebration party after winning the race in Canada. She sat on the bed and looked at them. Jeff and her looked so happy as the held each other and laughed. The last picture she looked at was she and Jeff kissing. She pulled it of the wall and stared at it. The tears left her eyes and rolled down her face and landed on the picture. She curled up on the bed and held the picture in her hand as she fell to sleep on Jeff’s bed.
