Gathering of the PoH: Part 1, Jin and Alabaster
The Gathering of the PoH

Part 1
Jin and Alabaster

Infants of War

Impa stares out a window at the burning town. Outside a terrible war was taking place. Throughout her body she could hear the screams of the people dying.
A servant runs through the vast hallways carrying a small child about the age of two. “Impa!!? Impa!?” The servant shouts. Impa tears her gaze away from the battle scene and at the servant. “What is it?” The servant catches her breath and shows the child to her. “Two Sheikans appeared before me and gave me their child. They said ‘Give our child to Impa.’ And then disappeared.” Impa examines the infant. “I have a feeling…about this little one. Alright, I’ll take him off your hands.” The servant hands over the child and walks away.
The guards watch as the Sheikan women carries the boy. ’He is now an orphan. My people are dying…I can do nothing…’ She thinks to herself.
A few days later, the war was still burning fiercely. The boy had suffered injuries but none too serious. Impa had noticed something unusual about him. His skin was very pale along with his hair. Because of this he was named Alabaster.

Alabaster peers around a corner, hoping there weren’t any guards around. He had somehow been able to go from his room to the halls just by thinking about it. He quickly sneaks outside. The scene before him was confusing. Guards were sleeping on the ground and red stuff had them covered. It looked like it was night but there weren’t any stars.
He tilts his head to the side as someone limps slowly towards him. They’re face was covered with a hood. He jumps back as the figure falls to the ground a low muffled sound comes from within the cloak.
“Alabaster!? Alabaster!” Impa runs throughout the castle calling for the little boy. “Where could he be?” She comes to the main entrance. The drawbridge was down, during the war it never was permitted for it to open. Beyond the doors she sees a small person and by it was a taller one on the ground.
She runs towards them and stops. Alabaster looks up at her. “Impa! Look!” He pulls away the figure’s cloak in their arms a baby lies. Another orphan…? Impa bends down and removes the child. Around its wrist was a band with a crying eye. “Sheikan…”

Best Friends

It has been six years since the war ended. Hyrule is in a period of peace. The villages and towns have finally been repaired completely. All is well.
Out on the rich plains of Hyrule a group of youths practice with another. One day they wish to serve as a guard or soldier for the King. They attack one another with wooden swords and work on their bow skills.
A tough looking boy shoves a kid on the ground. “You aren’t allowed here! You’re a girl and girls can’t become soldiers!” The girl stands up. “Can too! Girls are just as good as boys at anything!” “Prove it.”
A tight circle forms around them as they pick up their wooden swords. In one leap the girl jumps over the boy and turns around. He turns swinging his sword. She kneels and jumps into him. The boy falls back and looks up at the wooden sword pointing at his neck. “Damn you!” The girl grins. “Can too.”
After practice the girl walks to the castle. “I can’t wait to tell Alabaster that I beat Scum-boy.” She marches cheerfully on until something grabs the back of her tunic. The boy from earlier and a gang of other older boys are behind him.
“What do you want, Scum-boy?” “I’m not gonna let a girl beat me.” He pins her against a wall and raises his fist.
Alabaster yawns tiredly and jumps down from a roof. A loud commotion was arising nearby. “Wonder what’s going on.” The closer he gets the faster his pace becomes.
The girl sits up. She rubs her face where she’d been hit. “Get up sissy.” “Who you calling a sissy, wimp!” Behind him all the other boys had stepped away. Alabaster glares at him, arms crossed. “Why do you always got to beat up, Jin?” The boy steps back. “I ain’t scared of you!” “How come your knees are shaking?” He clenches his fists and runs away. Jin stands up and sticks out her tongue. “Now look who’s the sissy!”
Alabaster laughs and then looks at Jin. “You ok? That jerk plays dirty sometimes.” “I’m ok. He just caught me off guard. He was just jealous because I beat him in a duel!”
They both start walking towards the castle. “You have to watch yourself. If you get surprised like that you won’t walk away with just some bruises.” “Ok, Alabaster. I’ll practice harder.”

Seperation

Four more years of peace flourish through Hyrule. The two children have become the princess’s guards.
Jin sits in a tree on the Grounds of the castle. “Man, where’d Alabaster go anyway? He said he’d be back by now.” She jumps down and looks around. “He could be in town.”
The gate guards snicker at her as she passes by. “Whacha laughin’ about?” They straighten up and pretend they have no idea what she is talking about. Jin, unlike other girls her age, hadn’t changed much. She had no interests in being a “lady” although many advised her to become one. Another odd thing about her was that if you met her for the first time she’d appear to look like a guy.
“Stupid guards. They think they’re all that but they aren’t.” She sighs and looks up at the houses of the town. “Nope, not up there.” A group of little kids suddenly run up to her. “Jin! Jin! There’s a monster on the field!” Jin smirks. “Come on you guys. Monsters don’t lurk around here anymore.” “Yes huh!”
She follows them out onto the plains and stops dead. “A redead!!” She draws her sword. “You guys stay back!” Jin runs towards the living dead being. “Go back to the Shadow Temple where you belong!” She stabs her sword into it and jumps to the side as it screams. “Damn, I forgot that it won’t disappear with just a sword.” She dodges another attack and brings her index finger and middle finger to her lips.
She whistles a short melody and in an instant the Redead freezes in place. “Take this!!” She swings her sword shattering the ice. The monster crumples to the ground and screams before disappearing.
The kids run up to her cheering. “That was so cool!” “Jin you rock!” “Can you teach us!?” Jin smiles. “Sorry but Impa taught me that. You won’t learn that in your training.” Whines erupt from all around her. “Ok! Ok! Maybe a small lesson.”

* * *
The sun cast a beautiful color of violets and blues across the sky as it sets. Jin walks home, rubbing her neck. “Geeze…kids can be such a pain in the neck sometimes. And I still haven’t found Alabaster yet…” A bright light appears in front of her.
Alabaster looks up at the castle. “…It’s late.” Someone grabs him by the shoulders and he jumps ten feet into the air. “AGH!!!” He turns around drawing both his blades. Jin laughs hard. “You should have seen your face-HA HA HA!!” He narrows his eyes. “You nearly gave me a heart attack! Are you trying to kill me?”
Jin wipes the tears from her eyes. “Nope. Hey! Where were you today? I got stuck babysitting the group of kids you should have been training.” He scratches the back of his head. “Well…The King told me to deliver something for him-Ah shoot!!! I gotta report back to him!” He takes off. “Alabaster!! Wait up!”
Alabaster kneels before the King. “Ah yes. You’ve returned, Alabaster. I must say what a splendid job you have done.” “Thank you, sir.” The King rubs his beard. “Which has brought me to the decision of changing your position.” Alabaster looks up. “What do you mean?” “I mean that I have decided to make you my personal messenger.” His eyes widen a bit. “Sir, I’m honored but…I’ve seen what that job is like. I won’t be able to spend much time w-“ “Then it’s done. I haven’t anything for you as of the moment but a guard will be sent for you when I do have something.” “Eh….Y-Yes, sir..”
Jin leans against a wall near the throne room doors. She notices Alabaster walk out and follows him. “So you in trouble or somethin’?” “No…My position has been changed…I am no longer the Princess’s guard.” Jin stops. “WHAT? That’s majorly messed up!” “I know. That means we can’t hang out anymore…Well, it’s late. See you tomorrow…” He disappears.
Jin sits in her room. This job change was bad. She and Alabaster had never been separated for more than a day. Their friendship was in danger…

Their friendship did become extremely weak over the passing years. They saw one another very rarely. Jin became a loner as well as Alabaster…
