Hogwarts' Timeline--A timeline of Harry Potter Events.

I know that our beloved author J.K. Rowling did not write Harry Potter, with a specific time frame in mind. However, some would say you could come up with a time line. Once of course you have some were to start from. The firsts date we are given are in book 2 chpt. 8 we learn that Sir Nicholas is celebrating his 500, death day on October 31, 1492.

Now since we have a clear idea, of when Sir Nicholas was killed we can calculate other dates. One such date is when Sir Nicholas celebrated his death day on Oct.31 of 1492, in Harry’s second year that would make it 1992. From there we can get the year that Harry was born on July 31, 1980.

However, there are some events that have not been given dates. For instance, we are not given the year of Tom Riddle’s Diary, or the years certain adult figures were in school. Although we are given specific dates (perhaps by accident) that allows us to compile a timeline. While I would rather not define Harry to a specific time frame, I was curious to see if these events would coincide correctly, which I have done my using these dates that we have been given.

Starting from there-

Harry attends his first year of Hogwarts in 1991-1992, and turns eleven in 1991.

2nd Year: 1992-1993

3rd Year: 1993-1994

4th Year: 1994-1995

5th Year: 1995-1996

6th Year 1996-1997

7th Year 1997-1998

Therefore, his birthday is July 31st, 1980.

Book 2, ch 17: Tom Riddle: "Voldemort," said Riddle softly, "is my past, present, and future, Harry Potter…" He pulled Harry's wand from his pocket and began to trace it through the air, writing three shimmering words: TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE. Then he waved the wand once, and the letters of his name rearranged themselves: I AM LORD VOLDEMORT.

* His father abandons him and his mother

Book 2, ch 17: Tom Riddle: "You think I was going to use my filthy Muggle father's name forever?…I, keep the name of a foul, common Muggle, who abandoned me even before I was born, just because he found out his wife was a witch?

* His mother dies shortly after childbirth.

Book 2, ch 13: Tom Riddle (to Headmaster Armando Dippet) "My mother died just after I was born…They told me at the orphanage she lived just long enough to name me."

* He is sent to a Muggle Orphanage.

Book 2, ch 13: Armando Dippet, Headmaster of Hogwarts: "You live in a Muggle orphanage during the holidays, I believe?" said Dippet curiously.

Book 4, ch 33: Lord Voldemort: My mother…died giving birth to me, leaving me to be raised in a Muggle orphanage…"

1930: *Rubeus Hagrid is born.(see year 1943.)

* His mother is the giantess Fridwulfa

Book 4, ch 24: Rita Skeeter: (in an article for the Daily Prophet): "His mother, we can exclusively reveal, is none other than the giantess Fridwulfa…"

* His father is a wizard:

Book 4, ch 24: Hagrid got up, went over to his dresser, opened a drawer, and pulled out a picture of a short wizard with Hagrid's crinkled black eyes…"

1933: Hagrid's mother leaves him in the care of his father.

Book 4, ch 23: Hagrid: "Course, I can' remember her too well…she left, see. When I was abou' three."

1937: Voldemort arrives at Hogwarts. He is presumably age 11, but will turn 12 during the school year. (See year 1927)

1943: Voldemort gets his wand-it is 13 ½ inches, Yew, with a Phoenix feather core:

Book 1, ch 5: Mr. Ollivander: "Thirteen and a half inches. Yew. Powerful wand, very powerful, and in the wrong hands…"

Book 1, ch 5: Mr. Ollivander: "I remember every wand I've ever sold, Mr. Potter. Every single wand. It so happens that the phoenix whose tail feather is in your wand, gave another feather-just one other. It is very curious indeed that you should be destined for this wand when its brother-why, its brother gave you that scar."

1941: Hagrid enrolls in Hogwarts: He is age 11. (See year 1930)

* He gets his wand from Ollivander's

Book 1, ch 5: Mr. Ollivander: "Rubeus! Rubeus Hagrid! How nice to see you again…Oak, sixteen inches, rather bendy, wasn't it?"

* Voldemort turns 14 years old and is in his 3rd year. (See year 1943)

1942: Hagrid's father dies-Hagrid is in his second year (Voldemort in his fourth):

Book 4, ch 23: Hagrid: "Dad raised me…but he died, o' course, jus' after I started school."

Book 4, ch 24: Hagrid: "Dad was dead chuffed…'Course, I never was great shakes at magic, really…but at least he never saw me expelled. Died, see, in me second year…"

1943: Voldemort opens the Chamber of Secrets: he is in his fifth year, is a prefect, and is 16 years old.

Book 2, ch 13: (Tom Riddle's enchanted Diary, speaking to Harry): Of course I know about the Chamber of Secrets…In my fifth year, the Chamber was opened and the monster attacked several students, finally killing one.

Book 2, ch 17: "I decided to leave behind a diary, preserving my sixteen-year-old self in its pages…"

* Voldemort enchants his diary.

Book 2, ch 13: "Harry saw at once that it was a diary, and the faded year on the cover told him it was fifty years old." (Note: it was originally a muggle diary, so it had to be enchanted)

Book 2, ch 13: Harry: "He must have been a Muggle-born," said Harry thoughtfully. "To have bought a diary from Vauxhall Road…"

* Voldemort wins an award for special services under the name T.M. Riddle:

Book 2, ch 13: Ron: "Hang on," said Ron…"I know that name…T.M. Riddle got an award for special services to the school fifty years ago."

* Moaning Myrtle is killed.

Book 2, ch 15: Harry: "Ron-that girl who died…" said Harry… "What if she never left the bathroom? What if she's still there?" Ron rubbed his eyes, frowning…"You don't think-not Moaning Myrtle?"

Book 2, ch 16: Myrtle: (to Harry): "What do you want this time?" "To ask you how you died," said Harry. Myrtle's whole aspect changed at once… "Ooooh, it was dreadful…I just remember seeing a pair of great, big, yellow eyes. My whole body seized up, and then I was floating away…"

* Albus Dumbledore is the Transfiguration teacher; he has auburn hair.

Book 2, ch 13: …when a tall wizard with long, sweeping auburn hair and a beard called to Riddle…Harry gaped at the wizard. He was none other than a fifty-year younger Dumbledore.

Book 2, ch 17: Tom Riddle's enchanted image: "Only the Transfiguration teacher, Dumbledore, seemed to think Hagrid was innocent…"

* The Headmaster of Hogwarts is Professor Armando Dippet:

Book 2, ch 13: This was Hogwarts as Riddle had known it, meaning that this unknown wizard was Headmaster, not Dumbledore…

Book 2, ch 13: "Ah, Riddle," said the Headmaster. "You wanted to see me, Professor Dippet?" said Riddle.

Book 2, ch 17: Tom Riddle's enchanted image: "It was my word against Hagrid's, Harry. Well, you can imagine how it looked to old Armando Dippet."

On June 13, 1943, Rubeus Hagrid, 13, is caught with Aragog, and later expelled on the false accusation that he opened the Chamber. Hagrid is allowed to remain on Hogwarts grounds and train to be gamekeeper (under Ogg?).

Book 2, ch 13: Harry saw that the little square for June thirteenth seemed to have turned into a miniscule television screen…this was Hogwarts as Riddle had known it…

Book 1, ch 4: Hagrid: "Oh, well-I was at Hogwarts meself but I-er-got expelled, ter tell yeh the truth. In me third year…But Dumbledore let me stay on as gamekeeper."

Book 2, ch 13: …if, as a boy, Hagrid had heard that a monster was hidden somewhere in the castle, Harry was sure he'd have gone to any lengths for a glimpse of it…Harry could just imagine the thirteen-year-old Hagrid trying to fit a leash and collar on it.

Book 2, ch 17: Harry (To Riddle's enchanted image): "Hagrid's my friend…And you framed him, didn't you? I thought you made a mistake, but-" Riddle laughed his high laugh again.

Book 2, ch 17: "Only the Transfiguration teacher, Dumbledore, seemed to think Hagrid was innocent. He persuaded Dippet to keep Hagrid and train him as gamekeeper."

* Aragog, Spider King, is allowed to roam free in the Dark Forest.

Book 2, ch 15: They believed that I was the monster that dwells in what they call the Chamber of Secrets. They thought that Hagrid had opened the Chamber and set me free. I was not born in the castle. A traveler gave me to Hagrid when I was an egg. Hagrid…cared for me. When I was discovered and blamed for the death of a girl, he protected me. I have lived here in the forest ever since…"

1944: * During the summer, the Riddle family is found dead in their manor in Little Hangleton:

Book 4, ch 1: "Fifty years before, at daybreak on a fine summer's morning…a maid had entered the drawing room to find all three Riddles dead."

* Frank Bryce, the Riddle's Gardener, is 27. In the book, Frank returns from the 'War' with a hurt leg. This date then makes sense, because WWII would have been ongoing for nearly 5 years.

Book 4, ch 1: Frank was nearing his seventy-seventh birthday…

Book 4, ch 1: "he had a hard war, Frank."

1945: * Voldemort graduates from Hogwarts: he is 18 years old. He is head boy.

Book 2, ch 13: they did find Riddle's name on an old Medal for Magical Merit, and on a list of old Head Boys.

* Dumbledore defeats Grindelwald; the Dark Wizard (is this significant?) He is a teacher of Transfiguration at the time! This is interesting for a number of reasons: First, he is defeated right as Voldemort sets out to become Voldemort. Second, Voldemort's first rise to power is exactly 25 years after this wizard's defeat. Third, his second rise to power (in Book 4, Harry's 4th year) is exactly 50 years after this wizard's defeat!

Book 1, ch 6: The back of the ALBUS DUMBLEDORE card in the Chocolate Frog Box: Considered by many the greatest wizard of modern times, Dumbledore is particularly famous for his defeat of the dark wizard Grindelwald in 1945

1951: * Rita Skeeter is born:

Book 4, ch 18: Rita's Quick Quotes Quill: Attractive blonde Rita Skeeter, forty-three…"Somewhere between 1950s and early 1960's:

*Arthur Weasley and Molly? Attend Hogwarts: they are both in Gryffindor House.

Book 1, ch 6: Harry and Ron: "What House are your brothers in?" asked Harry. "Gryffindor," said Ron…"Mom and Dad were in it, too." I approximated the ages of the Weasley's as in their fifties, because of the age of their sons. This being the case, they would attend Hogwarts during the 1950s.

*The caretaker is Apollyon Pringle.

Book 4, ch 31: Molly Weasley: "Your father and I had been for a nighttime stroll," she said. "He got caught by Apollyon Pringle-he was caretaker in those days…"

* The gamekeeper is Ogg. Was Hagrid training under him?

Book 4, ch 31: Mrs. Weasley was intrigued by the Whomping Willow…and reminisced at length about the gamekeeper before Hagrid, a man called Ogg.

*Lucius Malfoy attends Hogwarts? He is in Slytherin House, as is his future wife Narcissa:

Book 1, ch 5: Draco Malfoy (to Harry in Madam Malkin's): "Know what house you'll be in yet? I know I'll be in Slytherin, all our family have been…"There is a question about when Malfoy attends Hogwarts. He wasn't there for the Potters, since he didn't know them, so he must be earlier. I approximated him here because he seems to know the Weasley's pretty well.

1962: * Bartemius Crouch Jr., is born.

Book 4, ch 27: Sirius Black: "I saw the dementors bring him in, watched them through the bars in my cell door. He can't have been more than nineteen… (In 1981).

1964: * Britain Hosts the Quidditch World Cup!!

Book 4, ch 3: Letter from Molly Weasley: "Britain hasn't hosted the cup for thirty years…"Somewhere between late 1960's and early 1970's:

* Lily Evans attends Hogwarts (I read many facts page that in book five, her maiden name is revealed to be 'Evans'.)

* James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Severus Snape and Peter Pettigrew attend Hogwarts and are all of the same year.

Book 3, ch 18: Remus Lupin: "Finally, in our fifth year, they managed it. They could each turn into a different animal at will."

Book 3, ch 18: Remus Lupin: "Severus was very interested in where I went every month…We were in the same year, you know, and we-er-didn't like each other very much."

* In their first year, the Whomping Willow is planted (meaning the Weasleys have already graduated)

Book 3, ch 18: Remus Lupin: "I told you, months ago, that the Whomping Willow was planted the year I came to Hogwarts. The truth is that it was planted because I came to Hogwarts."

Book 4, ch 31: Mrs. Weasley was intrigued by the Whomping Willow, which had been planted after she had left school.

*In their fifth year, Black, Potter and Pettigrew become unregistered animagi.

Book 3, ch 18: Remus Lupin: "…they did something for me that would make my transformations not only bearable, but the best times of my life. They became Animagi."

Book 3, ch 18: Remus Lupin (responding to Hermione's pointing out that animagi must be registered): "Right again, Hermione!…But the Ministry never knew that there used to be three unregistered Animagi running around Hogwarts."

* James Potter helps his house (presumably Gryffindor) win the Quidditch cup.

Book 3, ch 14: Severus Snape: "Your father didn't set much store by rules…Rules were for lesser mortals, not Quidditch Cup-winners.."* At sixteen years old, meaning in their sixth year, Sirius sets Severus Snape up to be attacked by Lupin in his Werewolf stage. In great risk to himself, James Potter rescues Snape-and ensures his eternal hatred:

Book 3, ch 21: Severus Snape: (To Dumbledore): "You surely don't believe a word of Black's story?…Sirius Black showed he was capable of murder at the age of sixteen…You haven't forgotten that, Headmaster? You haven't forgotten that he once tried to kill me?" Book 3, ch 18: Remus Lupin: "Sirius thought it would be-er-amusing to tell Snape all he had to do was prod the knot…Snape tried it-if he'd got as far as the house, he'd have met a fully grown werewolf-but your father…went after Snape and pulled him back, at great risk to his life…

*Somewhere in this time, Severus Snape becomes a Death Eater.

Book 4, ch 30: Dumbledore: I have already given evidence already on this matter…Severus Snape was indeed a Death Eater. However, he rejoined our side before Lord Voldemort's downfall and turned spy for us, at great personal risk.

*Bertha Jorkins attends Hogwarts.

Book 4, ch 19: Sirius Black: "Listen, I knew Bertha Jorkins," said Sirius grimly. "She was at Hogwarts when I was, a few years above your dad and me."

* According to the First Movie, Minerva McGonagall or her relative attends Hogwarts and is a Quidditch player.

But according to:

Book 3, she taught James Potter.Movie: The name M. McGonagall is on the plaque for Quidditch champions, to the upper right of James Potter, and the year looks like 1969. But I could be wrong…HOWEVER-According to the books:

Book 3, ch 10: Minerva McGonagall: "Black and Potter…I don't think we've ever had such a pair of troublemakers."

Book 3, ch 10: Minerva McGonagall (talking about Peter Pettigrew when he was in school): "Hero-worshipped Black and Potter…never quite in their league, talent-wise. I was often rather sharp with him…"

*Arthur Weasley and Molly ? marry. Based on their ages-this is just an assumption.

1967: * Bill Weasley is born

Book 3, ch 1: A delighted Mr. Weasley told the Daily Prophet 'We will be spending the gold on a summer holiday in Egypt, where our eldest son, Bill, works…' This is also an assumption, but Bill doesn't look that much older than Charlie.

1969: * Charlie Weasley is born (See year 1985-86)

NOTE: Bill doesn't seem to be much older than Charlie, so I dated him near Charlie, whose birthday was de1970:

*Lord Voldemort begins his rise to power.

Book 1, ch. 1: Dumbledore to McGonagall (On November 1st, 1981): "…we've had precious little to celebrate for 11 years…"

1973: * James Potter wins a plaque/award for being a good Quidditch Player?Movie 1: It appears that the year underneath the name in the first movie (when Hermione shows Harry that he has the skill to fly 'in his blood') is 1973. It could be another year, but this year makes sense, especially if James is older (like a 5th or 6th year) when he wins it. Why? Because from all impressions in the books, Harry's parents are very young when he is born, perhaps only a couple of years out of school, and Harry is due to be born in 7 years time.

1976: * Percy Weasley is born. Percy is a 5th year Prefect in the first book.

1978: * George and Fred Weasley are born in April (See year 1995.)

Book 4, ch 12: George Weasley: "We're seventeen in April…"

1979: * Ronald Weasley is born? I somewhere heard a rumor that in book 5, J.K. will name Ron's birthday as in December.

*Lord Voldemort and his followers go into hiding to avoid the Aurors-including the Potters?

Book 3, ch 19: Sirius Black: " Voldemort's been hiding for fifteen years, they say he's half dead."There is a question to this-J.K. Rowling might have made a mistake, and meant to say 12 years (when he lost his powers) instead of 15. But it seems from the books that the Death Eaters were prominent, but were perhaps in hiding to avoid Dumbledore, his 'old gang', and the Aurors that had begun hunting them down, so maybe they had gone into hiding before Voldemort's initial disappearance.

1980: * Harry Potter is born on July 31st:

Book 1, ch 8 "Investigations continue into the break-in at Gringotts on 31 July…"

Book 1, ch 8: "Hagrid!" said Harry, "that Gringotts break-in happened on my birthday!"

* Dudley Dursley is born in May or June.

Book 1, ch 2: The escape of the Brazilian Boa Constrictor (during Dudley's birthday zoo trip) earned Harry his longest ever punishment. By the time he was allowed out of his cupboard again, the summer holidays had started…

* Hermione Granger is born in September.

Book 3, ch 4: Hermione Granger: "It's my birthday in September…"

*Draco Malfoy is (presumably) born.

* Peter Pettigrew becomes a spy for Voldemort!

Book 3, ch 19: Sirius Black: (To Peter Pettigrew) "DON'T LIE!…YOU'D BEEN PASSING INFORMATION TO HIM FOR A YEAR BEFORE LILY AND JAMES DIED! YOU WERE HIS SPY!"

1981: * Ginny Weasley is born.

Book 2, ch 17: Tom Riddle (talking to Harry): "My diary. Little Ginny's been writing in it for months and months…It's very boring, having to listen to the silly little troubles of an eleven-year-old girl."

On October 31st, 1981 * Lily and James Potter are killed on October 31st; Harry is exactly 15 months old.

Book 1, ch 4: Hagrid (to Harry): "…Your mum an' dad were as good a witch an' wizard as I ever knew…Suppose the myst'ry is why You-Know-Who never tried to get 'em on his side…All anyone knows is, he turned up in the village where you was all living, on Halloween ten years ago…You-Know-Who killed 'em."

*Lord Voldemort is cursed by the repelled Avada Kedavra and is left weak and Bodiless:

Book 1, ch 4: Harry and Hagrid: "But what happened to Vol--…You-Know-Who?" "Good question Harry. Disappeared. Vanished…Most of us reckon he's still out there somewhere but he lost his powers."

Book 4, ch 2: Instead of killing the small boy, the curse had rebounded upon Voldemort. Harry had survived with nothing but a lightning-shaped cut on his forehead, and Voldemort had been reduced to something barely alive.

On November 1st, 1981: * Harry is deposited on the doorstep of the Dursley's.

Book 1, ch 1: Minerva McGonagall: "What they're saying…is that last night Voldemort turned up in Godric's Hollow…The rumor is that Lily and James Potter are-are-that they're-dead."

Book 1, ch 1: Professor Dumbledore (explaning to McGonagall why he's on Privet Drive the night after the Potter's deaths): "I've come to bring Harry to his aunt and uncle."

*Sirius Black confronts Peter Pettigrew in the Street. Pettigrew tricks the bystanders into thinking he is threatened, explodes the area and kills 13 Muggles, then transforms and disappears, pinning the entire charade on Sirius.

Book 3, ch 10: Cornelius Fudge: (Making false assumptions about Sirius) "But, as we all know, You-Know-Who met his downfall in little Harry Potter…And this left Black in a very nasty position indeed…He had no choice but to run for it."

Book 3, ch 10: Madame Rosmerta (talking to Fudge about Black's betrayal of the Potters on Halloween Night): But he didn't manage to disappear, did he? The Ministry of Magic caught up with him the next day!"

Book 3, ch 19: Sirius Black: "When I cornered him, he yelled for the whole street to hear that I'd betrayed Lily and James. Then, before I could curse him, he blew apart the street with the wand behind his back, killed everyone within twenty feet of himself-and sped down into the sewer with the other rats."

* Peter Pettigrew goes into hiding for 12 years to save his own skin:

Book 3, ch 19: Sirius Black: You haven't been hiding form me for twelve years…You've been hiding from Voldemort's old supporters."

* Sirius Black is captured and sent to Azkaban without a trial:

Book 3, ch 10: Cornelius Fudge: "…Black was taken away by twenty members of the Magical Law Enforcement Squad…Black's been in Azkaban ever since."

Book 4, ch 27: Sirius Black: "Oh I know Crouch all right…He was the one who gave the order for me to be sent to Azkaban-without a trial."

*November 5th in England is Bonfire Night, or Guy Fawkes day. Fawkes was a Roman Catholic revolutionary who tried to blow up the English Parliament in 1605. His execution/torture date is celebrated on November 5th. Does this Fawkes draw an allusion to Fawkes the Phoenix of the books?

Book 1, ch 1: Ted the Weatherman: "Viewers as far apart as Kent, Yorkshire, and Dundee have been phoning in to tell me that instead of the rain I promised yesterday, they've had a downpour of shooting stars! Perhaps people have been celebrating Bonfire Night early-its not until next week, folks!

* Cornelius Fudge is a Junior Minister in the Department of Magical Catastrophes:

Book 3, ch 10: Fudge: "I was a Junior Minister in the Department of Magical Catastrophes at the time, and I was one of the first on the scene after Black murdered all those people."

*Bartemius Crouch is Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

Book 4, ch 27: Sirius Black: "Crouch used to be Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement"

* Aurors are set loose to find the remaining Death Eaters. Taken from the evidence of chapter 30, where Moody tracks down people like Karkaroff and Malfoy.

* Frank Longbottom and his wife are driven insane by the Cruciatus Curse, administered at the hands of Barty Crouch Jr. and his associates:

Book 4, ch 30: Dumbledore: "…they were talking about Neville's parents…His father, Frank, was an Auror just like Professor Moody. He and his wife were tortured for information about Voldemort's whereabouts after he lost his powers, as you heard."

Book 4, ch 30: "The Longbottoms were very popular…the attacks on them came after Voldemort's fall from power, just when everyone thought they were safe."

1982: * Karkaroff is brought to trial by the Ministry of Magic.

Book 4, ch 30: Karkaroff: "I wish to be of use to the ministry…I know that the Ministry is trying to-to round up the last of the Dark Lord's supporters.

Book 4, ch 30: Moody: "Crouch is going to let him out,…Took me six months to track him down…" (NOTE: If Moody took six months to track down Karkaroff after Voldemort's fall, that would place him in the year 1982). Note that Karkaroff brings evidence against Augustus Rookwood at his trial…

* Ludovic Bagman is brought to trial by the Ministry of Magic:

Book 4, ch 30: This was not, however, a Ludo Bagman gone to seed, but a Ludo Bagman who was clearly at the height of his Quidditch-playing fitness.Ludo Bagman is accused of helping Rookwood betray the ministry, so his trial comes after Karkaroff's.

* Barty Crouch Jr. is brought to trial by the Ministry of Magic.

Book 4, ch 30: …the boy continued to struggle. "I'm your son!" he screamed up at Crouch. "I'm your son!" Chapter 30 shows the trial of Barty Crouch Jr. as the last trial Harry sees in the Pensieve. Dumbledore also mentions to Harry that Crouch and his cronies attacked the Longbottoms after the fear about Voldemort had died away. This means that the trial for Crouch Jr. occurred after Karkaroff's and Bagman's.

* Lucius Malfoy, Avery, Nott, Crabbe, Goyle, and Macnair are brought to trial by the Ministry for being Death Eaters. They are all cleared?

Book 4, ch 36: Cornelius Fudge: "You are merely repeating the names of those who were acquitted for being death eaters 13 years ago!"

1983 * Barty Crouch Jr. appears to die in Azkaban (but it is really his mother):

Book 4, ch 27: Sirius Black: "He died about a year after they brought him in."

1984-1985: * Gryffindor wins the House Cup for the last time:

Book 1, ch 7: Nearly-Headless Nick: "So-new Gryffindors! I hope you're going to help us win the house championship this year? Gryffindors have never gone so long without winning. Slytherins have got the cup six years in a row!

Book 1, ch 13: If they won their next match, against Hufflepuff, they would overtake Slytherin in the house championship for the first time in seven years.

* Slytherin House begins a triumphant 7 year run as the winner of the House cup:

Book 1, ch 17: The Great Hall…was decked out in Slytherin colors of green and silver to celebrate Slytherin's winning the house cup for the seventh year in a row.

1985-1986: * Gryffindor House wins the Quidditch Cup for the last time. (Apparently, they win the Quidditch Cup, but not the House Championship this year.)

Book 3, ch 8: Oliver Wood: "Gryffindor hasn't won for seven years now."

Book 3, ch 12: Minerva McGonagall: "And Potter-do try and win, won't you? Or we'll be out of the running for the eighth year in a row, as Professor Snape was kind enough to remind me only last night…"

* Charlie Weasley graduates from Hogwarts:

Book 1, ch 9: Fred Weasley (to Harry): "I tell you, we're going to win that Quidditch cup for sure this year…We haven't won since Charlie left…"

Book 3, ch 8: Oliver Wood: "Gryffindor hasn't won for seven years now."

Book 3, ch 15: The whole of Gryffindor House was obsessed with the coming match. Gryffindor hadn't won the Quidditch Cup since the legendary Charlie Weasley (Ron's second oldest brother) had been seeker.

(NOTE: Since Gryffindor hadn't won for seven years, and they last won when Charlie was there, Charlie must have graduated 7 years before 1993-1994 ?.)

1990: * Bill Weasley visits Hogwarts.

Book 4, ch 31: "Haven't seen this place for five years. Is that picture of the mad knight still around?"

1991: * Professor Quirrell stumbles across Voldemort in his travels.

Book 4, ch 33: "Then, four years ago…A wizard-young, foolish, and gullible-wandered across my path in the forest I had made my home. …he seemed the very chance I had been dreaming of…for he was a teacher at Dumbledore's school…"

1991-92: * On a (fictitious) Tuesday, July 31, 1991, Harry Potter turns eleven, is welcomed into the Wizarding World.

September 1: Term starts

End of Book: He defeats Lord Voldemort and his servant Quirrell. Voldemort goes to hide in Albania.
