The Western Dragon:

The Western Dragon is what most of us think of when we hear the word 'dragon'. They usually have four legs, large bat - like wings, wedge - shabed heads, huge claws, and are usually cruel and greedy. The large types often hoard gold and eat virgins, but not all of them are so cruel. Some can actually be very kind, like the Perneese Dragon.

The Eastern Dragon:

The Eastern Dragon is, in many ways, the oppasite of the Western Dragon. They are good, and symbolize luck. They are always large, and  never have wings. In China, the year 2000 is the year of the Dragon.

The Komodo Dragon:

(Varanus Komodensis) Here we have a real live dragon! The Komodo Dragon is an endangered species, and they only live on a few small island in Indonesia. They are the largest lizards in the world, at about 9.8 feet in lenght and 310 pounds.

Perneese Dragons and Fire Lizards:

Perneese Dragons create a telepathic link with human at hatching, and this bond stays as long as both live. They were genetically engineered by humans from a species indigenous to their planet Pern. This species is the Fire Lizards, whitch are basically small dragons. Their purpose is to defend the people of Pern from a deadly lifeform that rains doun on their planet in the form thread that eats anything except rock, metal and water. A  unique trait of this type of dragon is that they can teleport from place to place at will. You will find these dragons in a series of books written by Anne Mc Caffrey.

The Wyvern:

The Wyvern is basically a Western Dragon without front legs. It isn't much different than a Western Dragon in any other way. In fact, most would use the word dragon when they are really talking of a Wyvern. The plural of Wyvern, like deer, is the same (you would say a group of Wyvern instead of Wyverns).

The Wyrm:

Also called worms and wurms. The Wyrm is a very long, very large snake - like beast with a head  that is obviously draconic. It never have wings and usually doesn't have legs, but sometimes is has two front legs.

The Sea Serpent:

This type of dragon has no wings, usually doesn't have legs, and lives in the sea. These are always evil.

The Hydra:

This is basically a dragon with more than one head. The usually don't have wings, but sometimes they do. A sea Hydra is sometimes called a Hydrus.

The Drake:

The Drake is a more ambiguous type of dragon, everyone seems to have a different definition for 'Drake'. Sometimes, the word is used for a smaller Western Dragon. Often, it seen as a Western Dragon without wings, and it is sometimes used simply as another word for Western Dragon.

The  Fairy Dragon:

There's not much known about Fairy Dragons. They're those dragons you see with wings like a bug or a fairy. To nobody seems to know much about them, many seem to know of them.
