Here you will find information on the Beast Wars toyline

Please note that reviews are in a separate section (see the menu below). Note that in the tables, a name in 'inverted commas' means that it has not yet been confirmed as the official name. The availability fields mean that a toy has been released in that country, regardless of whether they have been discontinued, so older toys that annot be found will still be listed as available. A '?' in the availability fields means that I suspect a toy's release but have had no information to confirm it, in which case I would welcome information (see e-mail link on menu below).

Beast Wars 1996-1997 (US)

The original series of Beast Wars toys were released in 1996. These toys folowed the design concept of being animals that could be transformed into robots. The Maximal faction was generally populated by mammals and the occasional bird or fish as beast modes while the Predacon faction was generally reptiles and invertabrates. This rignal series of Beast Wars toys ran until late 1997/early 1998, when the Transmetal and Fuzors ranges took over in the US.

Beast Wars Fuzors 1998 (US)

This subline was introduced in 1998, consisting of 6 basic and 4 deluxe Beast Wars toys whose beast modes were a fusion of different animals. This allowed for some rather odd and fantastic looking designs.

Beast Wars Transmetals 1998 (US)

This subline is generallly viewed as the best of the Beast Wars line, with a high similarity to the show models and general good design. Essentially, it was a group of re-used characters from the original line, all of whom had appeared previously on the show (with the possible exception of Scavenger, who was originally intended to be Inferno). These characters were redesigned with a metallic, mechanical looking beast mode and a partially organic robot mode, as well as a (sort of) 'vehicle mode' (which would usually involve the beast mode sprouting wings or engines). There were no basic toys in this line.

Beast Wars Transmetals 2 1999 (US)

Despite the name, this was not simply a continusation of the transmetal subline, but rather another major change in design. For this line, the vehicle modes were taken out, and the previous 'energon chips' (temperatre sensitive stickers which would display the faction symbol) were replaced by 'spark crystals', little translucent plastic hemishperes displaying the faction symbol embedded in the toy. Both modes now displayed mechanical and organic influences parts, in irregular patches other the body, looking more cyborg-like than anything else, as well as mutated, slightly deformed appearances. This line had some of the highest level of detailing in the Beast Wars line. Opnions on it are largey divided. It was at this point that the UK line started to go down the drain, so many of these were rather sparsely distributed in the #UK, if at all.

Beast Wars Mutants 2000 (US)

This subline was released in 2000, while the Beast Machines line was already in full swing. Basicaly, these had no robot modes, and simply transfrmed from one beast mode to another. While some innovative transformations were designed, these tended to be highly inaccurate in at least one of the beast modes. The line was met with large fan outcry, and only consisted of 4 toys.
