Who were the Celtic Tribes?



There were many Celtic tribes over the centuries that the Celts spanned central Europe. The more famous were the Aedui, the Belgae, the Parisi, the Boii, the Galatians of Asia Minor, the Gauls of modern France, the Scordisci, Vatici, the Amacori and Venetti from modern day Britanny, the Galicians of Spain, the Picts, Iceni, Cimbri, Trinovantes of Britain, the Milesian, Gaels, Tuatha De Dannan, Firbolg and Dal Riada of Ireland.

They gave their names to modern countries and cities. Paris, (the Parisi), Bohemia (the Boii), Belgium, (the Belgae), Galicia in Spain and Poland, Gallipoli in Turkey, (Galatians), the Vatican in Rome, (Vatici), Britain (Pretani). Dalmatia and Albania both were named for Celtic tribes, the Albini and the Dalmatae.
