So... you want to know about the first time I met Echelon!?!? Well OK!!
I first met Echelon at the Youth Encounter Madison Quake Feb. 7-9, 1996!! Only three kids from my church wet..Kirsten, Jenny, and I. We were determined to have a GREAT time!! The theme for that year was "Dare 2 DV8". The Captive Free band was really cool! There was also this band called Echelon. They were very friendly, and introduced themselves right away. There also happend to be a guy named Todd in Captive Free. Both the Todd's had WILD Hair!! We started a joke "It's a Todd Thing", about their hair.
Well Kirsten and I decided to do the tallent show. I played keyboard and she sang. We had some problems getting the keyboard and mic ready, so Todd(Echelon) and Lloyd "grilled" Kirsten!! They basically teased her and made her totally crack up! Then we finally performed!! It was ok. Through the show, Todd and Lloyd were doing "Stupid Human Tricks". They threw stuff at each other, and even caught each other. It was really funny!! That Saturday there was a TV crew there from Channel 27 ((ABC)). They filmed our small group sessions, and interviewed Todd (Echelon).
When we went out to dinner that night, we went with our new friend Christine, and a friend of her's. As we were heading out, we ran into (almost literally) Lloyd. We invited him to join us, and he did!! We went to Dotty's Dumpling Dowery. We decided to sit in the balcony. They had a HUGE screen and projected TV on it. We asked them to change it to Channel 27, cause we knew we'd be on. We were over by the railing when the Youth Encouner story came on. We saw Todd, and we saw US in the small groups. We started screaming!!! The entire place turnned and looked at us as we were screaming, and ducked down behind the railing. It was a LOT of fun. We all just sort of shot the breeze over dinner.
Then came Sunday. Kirsten and I took LOTS of picures during the closing. We also took pics of Captive Free. Then we asked Echelon for some pics. We took pics of our group with them, and a picture of them. It was so much fun!! We all gave hugs, and Kirsten and I signed their mailing list, eventhough it took them FOREVER to get it started. Well we hugged a few more times and said good-bye, and hoped we'd see them soon.
Over all it was a LOT of fun!! Missed Echelon and Captive Free A LOT!!
