The first 40 years of my life I have tried to be something I never was, A Man. I have been married had a child, been divorced Etc..... In Feb 99 the shell that was me finally shattered and I saw myself for who I really are. I am Sue, Enemy of the State, Transsexual and Single parent. Single parent is not the whole story, I have a partner who is Mum to my son. I must give her all credit I have been amazed at the transformation that has occurred simply due to my acceptance of my true self. I am still discovering parts of my mind and personality of which I was not previously aware. When I built my male shell must I shut whole sections of my mind off and neglected skills which are now becoming apparent. I had the good fortune to have a good, helpful and sympathetic GP. Local mental health in St. Albans was a bit of a joke. "I'm afraid that I have no experience of transsexualisum. What would you like me to do?" Well far be it for me to tell the shrink how to do her Job BUT she could have mugged up on it because it was on the referral. Anyway the long and short of it is that Herts. Health Authority won't let local mental heath refer to Charring Cross hospital. Since April 99, Charring Cross hospital won't take referrals from GP's, unless the GP agrees to fund for treatment. Catch 22 springs to mind here. Thanks to a good GP I finally got refereed to Charring Cross and had my first appointment in November 99.
