Summer and Peter Chapter 3 The next morning I awoke, feeling the freshest I've felt in years. This place did wonders to you! I got out of bed, and went in the bathroom. I came out, and went to the dresser. I found a brush and brushed my hair. It felt as silky as anything. I then pulled out the top drawer, the one with all of the dresses. I rarely ever wore dresses, but today I decided that I should. I picked out a half formal dress. It was a silk green gown, with sequins on the edges. There then came a knock on my door. "Yes?" I answered. "It's me, Peter," Peter said. "Come in." Peter opened the door, came in the room, and closed the door behind him. He turned around, and stood there, dumbfounded. "Well?" I asked. "I...Uh...You look beautiful," he said in an almost lame tone. I looked down and said, "No I don't." "Yes you do." He came over to me and took my hands and looked me in the eyes. "Would I lie to you?" I just smiled. After a couple of seconds, he said, "C'mon. Let's go eat breakfast." He held my hand and together we walked to the banquet table. The table was filled with oranges, toast, other such fruits, and some things I have no idea what they were. Seated all around the table were unicorns. I could only guess that they were friends of the queen. Peter and I were seated next to the unicorn queen. "Good morning, Summer. How did you sleep?" she asked. "Good morning Your Majesty. I slept very well. I feel invigorated," I replied. "Very good. You are to begin your journey today." "Today? So soon? I guess," I said, surprised. "Very well. After breakfast I would like you to be dressed in more appropriate traveling clothes. When you have done this, my servants will help you prepare for your quest," she told me. "All right." After those last words, we continued breakfast happily. It was almost like Thanksgiving Day. Everyone seemed so joyous and jolly, as if there were some special celebration going on. And the food was plentiful.

I was dressed in some tan slacks and a light blue blouse. My brown hair was put up in a ponytail. My backpack included food, shelter, clothing, and other necessities. Peter stood next to me, atop the same hill that I was on when I first got here with Aubrey. “Well, I suppose we ought to get moving.” I sighed. “I suppose we should.” With that, we began our journey.

Peter and I walked for a long period of time without saying a word. I suppose both of us were just so upset because of the loss of color. Everything was in shades of black, white, or grey. It was just terrible! There weren’t any animals. The sky was almost black, as if it were filled with rage. We were trudging along the bank of a river, attempting to stay out of the weeds. In the far distance, miles away, there was a castle. A storm was raging around it, and didn’t seem as if it were going to let up anytime soon. “It’s…It’s terrible!” I yelled, out of frustration. “I know, I know,” Peter replied, his head hung low. I sighed. The only thing keeping me sane in this place is being with Peter. “What do you think might be causing this, Peter?” I asked him. “Some evil force.” He didn’t seem very talkative. He was obviously depressed. “What’s wrong?” I asked, sympathetically. “It’s just that, I’ve lived here my whole life, and until just recently, everything has been beautiful. You saw how it was. And now, look what’s happening to it!” Peter waved his arms. “I hate to see it like this.” A tear slid down his cheek. “Don’t worry, everything will be fine. We’ll fix it. Whatever it is.” He sighed. “I hope so.” “I know so!” I said, enthusiastically. We resumed walking, at a faster rate. I was staring at the ground, when all of a sudden I saw something green. It was color! “Oh my goodness! Peter! Look!” Peter looked at where I was pointing. “If it’s magic, it either isn’t strong enough, or it is weakening. But it’s wonderful to see something else that is color, other than ourselves,” he replied with a weak smile. I smiled back, starting to feel something more than friendship for Peter. All of a sudden, there came a roar from the sky. A rumbling, ferocious roar. I looked up, and spied a fearsome dragon. It was heading straight towards us! It was colorful, which was very surprising to see. It was blue, red, and purple. Its belly was blue, its body and head were a mixture of red and purple. The dragon was getting ready to spit fire at us. “Over there!” Peter yelled. He was pointing to a cave to the west. We darted for it, with the dragon coming closer every second. With the dragon on our tails, we made it in the cave just seconds before the dragon was going to chomp us. We ran as far back in the cave as possible, and just then the dragon roared a blast of fire, and it was coming straight towards us! “Under the sun, above the ground. Protect us from fire, and keep us sound!” As Peter said this, there was a bright flash of light. I closed my eyes, in preparation to be roasted by the dragon’s hot flame. But, just as the fire was about to lick us, Peter had said this, which protected us for a matter of seconds against the fire. The dragon saw that its prey was harder to catch than it had first anticipated, so it went off with an angry snarl, looking for something easier to catch. “Oh my god, Peter,” I said, gasping for air. “I was sure we were about to be lunch for that dragon! Where did you learn that spell?” As Peter was panting, he managed to say under his breath, “I don’t believe it worked.” He paused, realizing I had asked him a question. “I learned it from the court magician. I had some spare time one day, and so I decided to get some helpful spells from him. I’d always tried to get them to work, but they’ve never worked before!” His green eyes shined with great relief that the spell had worked. I was beginning to admire Peter even more…
