A MAN
A man sitting across from me,
Silent, reserved, and profound,
Creates a void between us,
Pushing sanity around.
As he takes a breath of lonliness
I find the reason there,

A Glimpse
Glimpses through tattered fabric stretched across my window
Make breathing easy.
And though the night requires more looking, spots of movement
Still create gasps.
But the rushed intake of freedom only lasts so long.
And in a moment I’m pushing back the lightless shadows
Trying to end it.
Here, where I am, there can be no light.
Only the light of yesterdays highlight edges and rough spots
