- Difficult situation for Hutt River citizens on Haiti

The situation in Haiti has been extremely tense and France and several other countries urged at one point their citizens to leave the country.

In the Caribbean nation where an armed revolt to unseated the President who now has fleed the country, the Hutt River Province has a small community of twelve.

Most of them are located in Port Au Prince and the Hutt River Consul-General to Haiti, Mr. Ronald Paoli, has recommend them to be prudent.

The armed revolt started some weeks ago against the elected President Jean-Bertrand Aristide with the aim to overthrow his Government.

Mr. Paoli described the situation for the Hutt River citizens on the island some days ago as very diffficult. Most of the Haitian-born Hutt River citizens runs businesses; they travel to Dominican Republic in order to buy merchandise and sell in Haiti. So their business has been severely struck by the turmoil. The Hutt River representative on the island does also work as a French teacher in one of the worlds most illiterate and conflict ridden country of the world.

Mr. Paoli hopes for a international solution on the crisis in Haiti.
