Tenchi Muyo
The first in the Tenchi series is from OAV! The story is about Tenchi Masaki, a high school student from the outskirts of Japan that lives an ordinary, peaceful life with his grandfather until he gets some unexpected house visitors. The cast of characters include: Ryoko, a demon that is released from her cave after being locked up for 5000 years, by Tenchi. Ayeka is a princess that is in search of her brother. Sasami is Ayeaka's sister and is the sanist of the women. Mihoshi is a Galaxy Police officer who is tracking down Kagato, an infamous criminal. Washu, the the most brilliant scientist in the galaxy, who looks as if she is 12 but is thousands of years old also. With that many women living and chasing Tenchi it's amazing that he can keep up with school...
Tenchi in Tokyo.
Well Tenchi Masaki has finally graduated and its time to go to college. It's just the way of things when your getting older, but when your houseguests are a group of alien females who are shamelessly in love with you, even if some of them don't admit it, it's not such a simple matter of choosing where to go. Tenchi's grandfather has already arranged for him to take over as the family priest and be trained at the shrine that took him in when he first arrived on Earth. That wouldn't be so bad since he has been training for this his whole life, but there's a catch, the shrine is in Tokyo. Needless to say the girls didn't take it too well and Ryoko nearly tore down the house when she found out that Tenchi was leaving and she couldn't come along. It's off to the big city for Tenchi and he can't wait to be away from all the noise of the now quiet Masaki home. All Tenchi wants is to be a normal guy and please his grandfather, but when one of the most saught after girls in school takes a likeing to Tenchi, he finds himself on yet another rollercoaster. His training at the shrine is coming along fine and he has made some new friends, but not the ones he has back home. Meanwhile, back at the Masaki homestead all the girls are going crazy with bordom now that Tenchi is gone until Washu unveils her newest invention, the transdimentional star gate. This latest device lets anyone travel from one place to another in the blink of an eye, and you can imagine who wants it in their room as the fight between Ayeka and Ryoko break out. Once in place they all decide to go see Tenchi. After the happy reunion they fix the other end of the gate to Tenchi's blanket, you can guess why. From here on in the story takes an interesting turn as an unknown women with strange powers begins to toy the lives of Tenchi and the rest of the gang. Tenchi's new found love interest, Sakuya, is ever dilegent about winning Tenchi for herself, until Ryoko and Ayeka found out. The resulting mix is quite explosive as Tenchi, not wanting Sakuya to get the wrong idea, tries to explain his relationship with Ryoko and Ayeka, but their version is somewhat different. Liviing with all those girls for so long has really gotten to Tenchi and warns them not to drop by uninvited anymore which, apparantly, doesn't go over well with Ryoko - it's her character. Now that there is a new enemy to fear, things couldn't be anymore back to normal for Tenchi. That is if you call a space pirate, an alien princess, and a new girlfriend all fighting over you, not to mention this new meddling women normal. But the tables turn during the summer, and suddenly Sakuya dissapears. He first thinks everyone's just joking around when his friends ask him if he wanted to go the beach and meet some girls. "I already have a girlfriend!" He exclaimed. His friends just laughed and thought he was hiding something. Then he comes to the apartment, and she is gone. Visits her apartment, it is bare empty. Sakuya lured Tenchi away from something very important, a plan to destroy Jurai. Meanwhile Washu had made some discoveries about Sakuya, and therefore found out she was a fake human put on earth to keep him away from his hometown -- so Yuki, who almost succeded in destroying Jurai thousands of years ago, could get past Ayeka and Washu to destroy Ayeka's and Sasami's homeplanet. Tenchi Universe
This is the most twisted series of them all. Tenchi Universe essentially is the Tenchi Muyo series, but is as if Tenchi Muyo never happened. The story line is almost the same, Several girls coming from different parts of the galaxy somehow manage to squeeze themselves into Tenchi's once ordinary life. There's Ryoko, is now a space pirate. Aeka, the first princess of the planet Jurai, is not looking for her brother, but crashes becuase of Ryoko. Mihoshi, is still a space detective, but has a somewhat stubborn and promotion driven partner named Kiyone. Sasami is still in the story but Ryoogi is no longer her pet, but now belongs to Ryoko. Washu is still a crazy scientist, but is Ryoko's partner. But as an interesting plot twist Tenchi's family has Jurain blood too. Tenchi Universe is another re-telling of the whole Tenchi story. There are additional characters like Kiyone, Nagi, etc. If you have seen the other series Tenchi Universe will take some getting used to, but is worth it. The best part of Tenchi Universe is seeing excerpts from Ryoko and Aeka's childhood days. Their lives have been intertwined from the very beggining. Those cute and talky Washu dolls also make their debut here. There's a swimsuit contest among all the Tenchi girls, and they really flaunt their stuff. If you are a Tenchi Fan you should enjoy this series, but take it as it is, a fun twist to a great story.
