The Very Necessary Squire

Requirements Forte Weapons Armor Helmet
None Basic Skill Knives, Swords, Hammers, Axes Clothes Hats

Ahhhh! The Squire. Being one of the most basic characters in FFT, some find it hard to believe that the Squire is essential to winning the game. In fact, he is probably the most important Job Class there is. What's the big deal about the Squire? Well, he plays a huge part in paving the way to becoming a more powerful fighter. He opens the door of opportunity that is necessary to become a warrior of the highest caliber.

For example, do you want to become the mysterious Ninja? Cool, huh? Well, to change into a Ninja suit, you must fill the prerequisites. A Ninja must be a level four Thief, a level three Archer, and a level two Geomancer. Achieving the Job of Thief requires being an accomplished Archer. In turn, one must be a level two Squire to be an Archer. Same for the Geomancer. You have to have had at least level three experience as a Monk to become a Geomancer. To be a Monk, you gotta be a level two Knight. And yup, you guessed it, to be a Knight, you must have been a level two Squire. So, it all leads back to the Squire. He is the basis for all the "fighting" Job Classes!!!

My advice: Master him! Quickly! In fact, don't even become a Knight or an Archer until you have mastered the Squire Job. When I mean mastered, I don't mean that you feel in your heart that you've mastered the Job. I mean actually purchase all the abilities for the Squire and obtain that pretty little star next to his name.

In conclusion, the Squire is very necessary. When you start the game, you'll have two Chemists and about six Squires. Does that tell you something? Offense is definitely more important than defense in the early stages of the game. But that's only in the very beginning! Remember, your priorities change from battle to battle. Some conflicts require an impenetrable defense, and others call for heavy offense. With time, you'll know who to use and when.

"Squire"

This helpful little guy has some very basic abilities whose JP costs are fairly inexpensive compared to some of the more advanced classes. The Squire, without a doubt, is a key character in FFT.
