Saturday
September 16, 2000: Well, hello there.
It was my last week of work. Pretty damn cool. Monday
just about everyone in the office was surprised to see me sitting
at the front covering for the regular girl. I had written "Back 9/12"
since the prior week. The 12th is Tuesday, not Monday, okay! Check
the calendar.
After work, Annie and I went to buy books. I only got 2 of my
CMU books since the rest were new. No rush in those. I got home
in time to see Lar get ready to purchase his new-used car! It's a
90 Toyota Celica. In a nice shade of blue, which we're trying to
figure out what the name is. But it's really nice and now I have to
learn how to drive stick.
Tuesday I got some crazy 'project' to mail out nearly 1,000
letters. These letters asked the recipients if they still wanted
an application from us. Fine. But one-thousand? Jen and Josh were
up here so they got me after work and we (with Annie and Mike) went to
Olive Garden.
We actually had a couple refills on the pasta bowl. I was surprised,
especially since I wasn't even starving. But we were there for a long
time, long time. Aftewards, they took me home and Lar was somewhere
on a drive.
Wednesday the director of admissions was back. Have I said that
he picked a wrong time to go on vacation for three weeks? I've had
about 6 people call in asking about their status on the waiting list.
They were supposed to get notification on August 31, but by then, he
was already on vacation for a week and still had two to go. Nice.
There were a few other things that needed his specific attention as well.
Anyways, he saw me working on that thousand-mailing and asked what I
was doing. So I told him, and he got all pissy and said to stop it
right now and that we were wasting time. It was our job to send out
information. We made a promise to these people. It didn't matter if
they tossed the application, we did our part in sending it. Wonderful.
He said he was going to talk to the person who gave me this job.
This is after I successfully finished folding, stuffing, and labelling
one-quarter of them.
But who was HE to get mad at me? I do what they tell me okay? It's not
my fault he felt all frazzled from being gone so long. He left
without giving specific directions so whoever was left behind did
what they thought was right. Blahblahblahblah.
Then he asked if this was my last week. I said it was. And instead of
the usual "I'll be missing you" thing, he said it was coming at a
bad time! Ha ha! So I told him that I already spoke with the woman
who hired me and signs my timesheets and I gave her my two week
notice and that was that. I would have said something to him, but he
was on vacation. So nayh.
It's not like I have to own up to him or anything. Is his name on
my timesheet? Is he the one who interviewed and hired me? I don't
think so. The person who does that is my boss, unless specified...so
leave me alone! RAR.
So now my next 'project' was to put together the admissions packet
since we got our zillions of bulletins last week. Thankfully a few
weeks ago, I put together the paper-letter part of it so now I
just slapped the bulletin on the back and stuffed it. It was a good
thing.
Can we say papercut? I got two deep gashes on my thumb and pinky. It
was not nice. They hurt and bled and were in awkward places on my
fingers, so it was difficult to fit bandaids on them. Bah.
Thursday morning I had to move all my work (about 10 boxes of
applications) to the other end of the office. I shouldn't be doing
this so early in the morning. The next bad news was that these
had to be sealed. We couldn't just leave them open. So I had to
backtrack yet again on this stupid 'project.'
The admissions office got to go to the International District to the
Seattle Asian Art Museum in the afternoon. Did anyone hear me say I
wanted to go? Oh well, the time I spent covering the front desk was the
time that I could finally relax.
Jim stopped by since he was in town for Jeopardy. It was
a nice surprise. We had lunch together and I helped him pick out his 2nd school sweatshirt for
the show, in case they needed more color. I said that if he wore that sweatshirt, that he
had to say that I picked it out for him on the show. *heh*
Lar and I went on a night drive up north. It was fun. I was the DJ,
though I had bad material to work with! An entire half of a CD-holder
with just Bob Dylan. Just wonderful. When we got home, we were supposed
to go to this guy's house to get his entertainment center. I called
him up a little after 9...
*ring*
"Hello?"
Hi, my name is Jeanny..I've been emailing someone here about
the entertainment center....
*click*
Hello....? Damnit!
*re-dial*
"This is Bob (fake name)."
Right, yeah hi, I'm Jeanny. I've been emailing you about the entertainment
center. Can I come by and get it right now?
"Uh, I'm eating right now. How about later?"
No, it's too late. I have to work at eight (while he works at noon
or something).
"How about tomorrow?"
I have to go to Jeopardy!
"The weekend? Saturday?"
Sure, fine, whatever...the afternoon, okay?
"Can you give me a time?"
The afternoon...like 5 or 6!
"Okay then."
What a dumbass. I should have called him on hanging up on me. What
was that all about? He just wanted to be able to answer the phone
using his name all professional-like? I just didn't get that. He
seriously rubbed me the wrong way by doing that. What the hell.
There was no apology, no acknowledgement that he just hung up on me.
Dumbass!
Friday, my last day. I drew a big smilie face next to my name.
I heard people all day say they can't believe it was my last day.
I just sat in the back with my stacks of papers and grinned. It was
my last day. Finally.
They had a potluck lunch for me during the day and it turned out
a lot better than I thought it would be. They made those comments like:
You're gonna come visit us right? Maybe answer a few phones, put a
few mailings together... There was a big pause and then I said something,
but of course during the pause they knew that I was like: ha ha, that
is not very amusing. Or something. It didn't come off badly.
So yeah, they fed me, got me a nice card..which I just skimmed.
The one who was my favorite though, the info specialist wasn't there
though, so that made me a little sad. He came back and gave me a
small box of chocolates, which I thought was very nice.
The rest of my day was like normal, except for when random other
people in the department would come down and then I'd be introduced
as the 'student helper extraordinaire' or something. Then they would
hear a long description of my abilities and stuff and I'm
like: Geezz, kiss my ass more when I leave?
Oh, it wasn't that bad..but then it was too. So I dunno.
I didn't have time to remove my mp3z though. I d'loaded about 60 of
them. Well, whoever uses that back computer will have a treat of
hearing some good music for one! I did uninstall a few progs I had,
such as ICQ and NistTime...and these sucky screensavers that were
there already..and some other stuff. The look is more streamlined.
Another bonus for the next user.
But I guess they will hire some temps to help fill in before their
workstudy kids come back. The past three days I worked until 5pm,
which was nice...the next 1.5hrs. Woo hoo. :P
When time rolled around, I was out the door. Not a big deal. Thankfully
no one tried to hug me or be all emotional. I think they knew that I
wasn't like that. It's quite obvious.
I met up with Annie and we had Thai food at this new place...which
replaced the Sea Shanty. (ha!) They were all super nice there, but
the server had the LONGEST, three hairs coming out of HIS MOLE. OMG.
Aftewards, we went to stand in line for Jeopardy.
So I don't remember if you all knew that Jim was selected to play.
Him and this other girl I don't know. It was pretty cool to know
someone who was competing. Anyways....We stood in line and the event
staff girl there was a bitch! Made everyone walk through that maze of
metal poles, "cause they were there for a reason." Yelled at this old
woman cuz she went under the poles so she wouldn't have to walk all
the way, but she had to go back and redo it!
Annie and I saw Wilson go into the VIP section and were annoyed. I
began to bitch about how I was so certain that our "contestant guest"
passes were VIP as well, we were not the plain "admit one" ticketholders.
Blahblahblah, it was fun to complain. We weren't sitting too far behind
from Wilson, just a couple rows back but we were on the left so we
couldn't see the big tv with the categories.
So whatever..we saw Jim and the other players down in front. I saw
Johnny Gilbert and Alex....it was cool. They taped two shows at this
evening taping and of course I had to be attending the one where Jim
wasn't playing. Nice. But the shows I sat in will be airing on the
11th and 14th of November..I'll be sure to remind everyone when
those days come. :)
We met up with Wilson...those two continued to do something while
I went home. Lar was at the Jason
show, I rewatched some PPGs episodes.
They are soooooooo funny!
Lar came back and we went out to eat..at Sharis. And of course he
made a big deal there cuz he wanted a chicken sandwich and of course
the waitress had to have some big conference with the cook and the
manager and got all the other waitresses in it..and I'm like GOD! Just
get a turkey sandwich! :P
We went home and then went to bed.
Today I woke up early at 11am cuz B and I were gonna hang out.
We didn't actually get together until noon, then we watched TV at her
place until 2, then went to Bellevue. Looked at random things, saw
people spend obscene amounts of money and then we went to the U-Village.
She eventually dropped me off. :P
I slept for a couple hours, then woke up starving. I was already hungry
by the time I got home from Betty..but now I was really hungry. Lar
was on the phone with a talkative uncle and couldn't get off for
the LONGEST time. I was dying.
We went back to Claim Jumper. I ordered Lar's sandwich while he ordered
a smaller, different one. It was good. Thing was, I was hungry
enough to eat everything, but he made me save the other half of my
sandwich. :P Our girl was doing a good job until she disappeared for
about 10mins, the 10mins that we were done eating, ready to pay, and
leave. So her tip was small.
Rented some movies, "10 Things I Hate About You" and "Ghostdog."
We saw "10 Things" tonight and it was dumb! Lar thinks "Ghostdog" is
dumb but I know it isn't. I'll watch it myself tomorrow!
So tomorrow and my vacation...I'll be reading Harry #4, and cleaning.
Wednesday and Thursday I'll be in Oly for a dental appointment and
some badly-needed clothes shopping, then I'm back and just hanging out
til school starts on the 25th!
Who knows if I'm getting that entertainment center. :P
