Runs Out of Time on Arlen's Turf Ahead by a landslide, Stephen's clock ran out. Written by our Mystery Writer Stephen Dean agreed to adventure into MSN's chess server and play Arlen on his own treacherous ground. Yan decided to set the timer at 10 minutes, which proved to be a horrible blow to Stephen's game. Stephen once again showed his power on the board. Dominating Yan throughout the match, his clock was starting to lose more time than Arlen's. Nearing the end of the game, Stephen had 1 minute left while Yan had 2. Stephen tried to make up for his loss of time by taking less time and moving as quickly as possible. Even with this disadvantage, Stephen managed to leave Arlen with only his King and a pawn left. Stephen, who still managed much material, had a sure victory. A pawn was ready and waiting to reach the other side to be transformed into a queen. But time was not on Stephen's side. No matter how fast he moved, the time was running out too fast. Stephen's timer ran out a move before queendom. Arlen's clock still contained one minute. It seems that Stephen has lost to Arlen. After all, more time means better moves. If Arlen used more time, maybe he wouldn't have been losing as much. Yet, I don't think that could be true. Stephen has dominated in every game they have played- timer or no timer. Stephen is the better player. Until next time... |
