**All
you need to get started in BMX **
Welcome to the fun and exciting sport of BMX!
BMX is a sport the whole family can enjoy. It is a sport that is open
to anyone who has the desire and the ability to ride a bike. And if the
thought of riding a bike does not appeal to you, you may find yourself
joining the many people who find this a spectacular and exciting sport
to watch.
Wanneroo BMX Club is a non- profit community based organisation, which
functions with the support and help of it’s members. All profits are utilized
by the club in the endeavor to maintain and enhance club facilities, promote
social enjoyment, and to develop and maximize bicycle riding skills.
YOUR BIKE
Any 20” or 16” bicycle can be quickly and inexpensively modified for
BMX. The aim of modifying your bike is to create a bike that is safe for
BMX use.
You need to observe the following points:
 |
Ensure that the usual bike padding is in place on the handlebars, gooseneck
and frame. |
 |
The handle bars must have hand grips |
 |
Remove all protruding and breakable objects, such as the kick stand,
chain guard, bell and reflectors. |
|
| SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND PRECAUTIONS |
 |
Helmet. Helmets which do
not cover the ears are designed primarily for road use and are not suitable
for BMX racing. We strongly recommend a full face helmet that will offer
ultimate head protection for new riders. |
 |
Gloves. Any gloves that
adequately fit and protect the rider’s hands will suffice. |
 |
Top Long sleeve only |
 |
Pants Long |
 |
Shoes and socks.
Socks need to cover the ankles. |
 |
Remove any personal jewellery
which could possibly be a safety hazard. |
|
| The club has a few helmets, gloves and clothes that will be gladly
lent to beginners for their first visit to the Club. |
